‪My husband and I took our children, ages 7 and 10. It's located in an actual working train station that was an old train station in the past. Admission price is very reasonable considering my children had a great time and my son absolutely loved all the train stuff. We were able to stand on the outside loading deck while a freight train passed and then watched overhead as a passenger train stopped to unload and load passengers. Overall, great museum. Staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and great with the kids. Lots of hands on and interactive exhibits.‬

‪We got to see 4 trains while we were there including a passenger train. The kids got to watch how passengers embarked and disembarked from each car. Each section we visited was educational and lots of fun for these little kids to explore and play. There’s a huge long wall for magnets, a cool Lego room, lots of wood trains and tracks, a bike room with a fun 3-D movie, and a series of tunnel-connected rooms with cool things to see and play within. Only metered parking in the lot and on the street.‬

‪We took our three kids (3 y.o., 2 y.o., and 8 month old). They had a great time! There’s a room with Thomas train tracks and trains on a kid-level shelf - that alone entertained my 2 y.o. for 20+ minutes. Both of my kids loved pretending to sell train tickets and my 3 y.o. thought stamping & punching the tickets was the greatest (she asked for her ticket hours after we got home). They have a section with an 1800s store filled with play food & cans. The kids loved playing with it. Mine are still too small for the bike ride, but that looked like it would be fun. The museum and the children’s areas are clean and well maintained. The gentleman who runs it is clearly very knowledgeable and was incredibly kind and helpful. This is a great place to spend an hour or two with little ones. I definitely recommend it! ‬

‪I took my 6 year old son here and he had a blast! Robert, who pretty much does everything here, was so knowledgeable and friendly. He was great with my son and had him really interested in the material. There are different colored paths to follow making it easy to ensure you hit all of the areas. My son really liked seeing the trains at the roundhouse and the 3D bike ride. The play areas were really nicely done and there was so much for the kids to do. I thought this was a great find!‬

‪Interesting place for young children with lots of history. Lego town and long model trains were a huge hit! ‬

‪So actually this museum is part of a train station. I went in and asked for tickets and the woman at the counter thought I was buying tickets for the train and directed me to a vending machine. I went back to her and said "no no...museum tickets!" This museum is small. But for $6 and nearly 2 hours of time to occupy a 3 year old and with nobody around, it was an fabulous value for the money. So here's the skinny...

The museum has free parking on the weekends, just park at any of the meters in the parking lot. The museum consists of two room on the first floor, four rooms on the lower level, and the roundhouse across the train tracks. More about the roundhouse later.

So the amount of time in the actual museum itself is not going to be very long. I am guessing an hour to an hour and a half. One of the rooms is a country store theme, another room, a cabin room, and third room a teepee of sorts. There are toys for the youngster to play with and move around and the rooms are connected by a small tunnel for kids to crawl in and out of. The fourth room had some ride simulation game in there but it was locked and I didn't bother asking to try it. On the ground level are two rooms, but one of the two rooms is larger and has a train station theme where the youngster to pretend to be selling tickets, there are also lego pieces in the room for kids to build and play and assorted other exhibits, all of which kids can touch and play with.

Now, after the museum is done the real gem of this place is the roundhouse across the street. The roundhouse is a real train yard that was in use in the late 1860s and in use until the 1980s. Believe it or not, the Director of Visitor Services gave us a personal tour of the roundhouse and it was absolutely amazing. To see the train yard and the buildings, in restored condition, with some restored original train equipment inside was amazing. The Director was very generous with his time and told me about how the trains and the tracks were razed by the Confederate so it would not fall into the hands of the Union Army during the Civil War. My little one did not really appreciate where he was at but I certainly did. I learned about the machines that were in there, the architecture of the buildings, and the events that happened there between 1866 and the present. The roundhouse is breathtakingly stunning to photograph and, train enthusiasts, will immediately recognize what a gem this place is.

For $6 you must go. But many reviewers say the roundhouse was closed when they went so I would suggest calling ahead to be sure it will be open when they arrive.‬

‪My kids and I have visited a few times. It is a lovely place. But it could use more things for older children. The 3d bike ride is really interesting and they love the train items.‬

‪A great concept museum with the potential to add to the re-birth of the eastern panhandle of West Virginia.

Great interactive stations reliving the history of the railroad and its contributions to opening the West.‬
