‪Thank you to those who are responsible for keeping this cemetery beautiful as a tribute to those heroes resting eternally here. My grand uncle is buried here and it’s nice to know that he’s honored here.‬

‪So struck by the location and the utter serenity of this desperately sad place, we visited twice over a three day period. The stillness is jarring. I found it to be profoundly moving.‬

‪A cemetary like many others, however, if you get the audio recording for Cpl Edward Dwyer, his grave is located here..play the audio at his grave for a moving touch to your battlefield tour‬

‪We came across this cemetery on our way from the Mametz Wood memorial and stopped to have a look. Very small compared to many of the bigger cemeteries, it contains over 1500 graves of soldiers from all over the Commonwealth. It is very pretty and, like all CWGC cemeteries, immaculately kept with lots of flowers. ‬

‪This place is about 500 yards from the Welsh division memorial at Mametz but it's out of sight and along one of those worrying French tracks that look like they will be OK but turn into a potholed nightmare. It's actually a fairly good track and a short cut out to the east of Mametz Wood. I had a man I was researching here and shared this lonely spot with a gang of local farmers harvesting the wheat crop: it was difficult to imagine such horrors amid such normality. Don't miss it while you're in the area.‬

‪We had visited Mametz Wood and the Welsh Dragon monument dedicated to the Welsh Division before we visited this cemetery; as my title says, poignant and thought provoking. The cemetery is very well kept but aren't all those that are cared for by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission?
It's not very far down the lane from the monument and to walk on that hallowed ground is very humbling when it is remembered the sacrifice of those men.‬

‪After visiting the Welsh memorial we carried on along the lane and found this cemetery. Definitely one to visit. As with all Commonwealth cemeteries, it is beautiful. Some wonderful personal memorials. ‬

‪I'd visited Mametz Wood 3 times but this was my first visit to this cemetery. Do make an effort to go there, and research it before hand - the graves of the two brothers and others are worth commemorating, as are they all. ‬

‪We'd visited Mametz woods and the awesome Welsh dragon moument. We were busy looking for Flatiron cemetary when all of a sudden, the sign popped up. It lies opposite a wood. We visited at about 7pm when there was nobody about except the foraging animals in the wood. I'm Welsh and this cemetary tugged at my heartstrings. Following the 100 years commemoration of the Somme, a lot of red dragon flags and wreaths still adorn the monuments and gravestones. The most wonderful show of respect and possibly the most original were the large pebbles left on the Welsh graves at Flatiron by "the Swansea Boys" - "a taste of home", and "a bit of Barry Island" among the messages written on these stones by visitors paying their respects, leaving a piece of home behind for "The Boys". It made my heart fill with pride at such typically Welsh sentiment. <3‬
