Amazing outdoor trails. Beautiful surroundings, safe, well kept. Love visiting here when I'm in that part of town!

Beautiful park with the main loop about 3 miles. Many different landscapes and environments and the path varies through the park. Wildlife can be seen, especially off the main path. Great for walking, hiking or running.

The landscape here is always changing, and it never disappoints, whether you’re biking, walking or strolling. One of our favorite places.

Beautiful place with lots of wildlife, including deer, birds and snakes. The trails get crowded on sunny weekend days. The main trail around the conservancy is about 5k, so perfect for a jog.

Wide paths for distancing. Several different options. Chance to see wildlife. Easy parking at Common Ground across from the entrance.

Along with UW Madison Arboretum and UW Lakeshore Preserve, Pheasant Branch Conservancy is one of the biggest parcels of nature on the west side of Madison-Middleton. Many trails, both open walks (prairie, marshlands) and under the canopy walks - offering something for everyone. Unfortunately, the preserve suffered enormosly after the historic floods couple of years ago, that laid waste to many trails and naural features. It will take time and a lot of volunteer work to recover.

Over the years I’ve walked and biked the conservancy. The trails are good especially the northern portions which has bounced back after the flood of 2018. Some work to be done to make the other portions available to all. Can be used by those with special needs, if accompanied by another.
Walk your dog, on a leash and clean up after them. Birds and deer can be spotted if your inclined, but tread quietly and nature ‘s amazing. Take a hike or picnic and explore what’s a hidden gem of Dane Co.

I like the 4 mile loop and enter off Century Harbor. The trails are well maintained and love the wildflowers. In the winter, boots work well, but I am considering upgrading. Trails are usually groomed. Peaceful when covered in snow.

This is such a gem in the friendly town of Middleton, Wisconsin. Great all-year-round outdoor trek. Bikes are welcome on some stretches, but the hiking trails are for walking/running only. Our dog loves it here (on a leash) and the fresh water is welcome in the hotter months.

For a glimpse of Wisconsin as it was before the arrival of European settlers visit this 550-acre conservancy.
Thanks to committed, tireless volunteers who perform controlled burns and plant native flora, this area along a spring-fed stream that feeds into Lake Mendota provides a classroom without walls alive with wildlife.
Native wildflowers were abundant on the late summer day we walked. It was a busy Sunday and the trail that traverses a mix of prairie, oak savanna, forest, and wetland was being well used by hikers and cyclists alike.
Dogs were also present with their human companions. The dogs were well behaved and leashed. (A Dane County dog park use permit is required as is a non-retrackable leash.)
The centerpiece of the conservancy is Frederick's Hill which affords impressive views in all directions. Native American burial mounds are located near the top giving evidence that the beauty and spirituality of the area has attracted humans for centuries.
The only downside to Pheasant Branch are the homes and condos along the perimeter in certain sections. Nonetheless, this gives strong visual evidence of the growing need for such conservancies as sprawl continues its outward march.
