Driving through Wittenberg is a pleasure when you can see different artistic creations as you go along the roads. Really nice!

What a lovely way to welcome people to Wittenberg! It put a smile on my face looking at all the murals. The building with the fireworks is the Fire Dept!

I went into the Walls of Wittenberg and was fortunate to talk to Pam, who was decorating for a Valentine's performance. Check the schedules. They have muder mysteries and performers. There is also a pamphlet on all the murals around the town with a map of where they are located. We had fun finding them and figuring out why certain buildings had certain murals. There is also an art park behind the Walls of Wittenberg. I wanted to look it over a little more closely, but the walk, understandably, was covered in ice so I will have to do this another time.

It's very interesting to see all the paintings they look awesome. If your traveling through Wittenberg go downtown and check it out you won’t be disappointed.

I'm from out-of-state. I was westbound on Hwy 29, and needed to turn North onto US45. My GPS told me to take a right, but... I could see there was a town to the left, and thought it was such a shame that highways steer people away from communities. I turned left.
The streets were well-signed, and I easily followed the arrows pointing to "downtown". Drove slowly through, and was stunned to see a massive painting on a building which immediately brought Oberammergau to mind. (Oberammergau is a town in Bavaria, Germany, famous for its fairytale paintings on buildings.) I've never seen such a thing in a small town hidden from most GPSes. I decided to pull over quickly and photograph it.
As I pulled over, I saw 2 more painted buildings. I vowed to photograph all 3! As I walked out in the middle of the street and cautiously looked both ways, I saw another building on a perpendicular street with a mural on it. I was confused and curious... so I took off on a jaunt to see the story on that further building. As I got on-scene and positioned myself for a photo, I turned my head and saw ANOTHER mural next to a fire department...the most beautiful of them all, devoted to the courage and devotion of firefighters. While trying to get into position to photograph THAT, I saw a small shed with a painted winter scene nearby, and off in the distance, a well-painted quonset. I wasn't even able to make sense of all this artwork in such a small town. As I walked toward the quonset, I discovered an entire small art-park with sculptures and seats. Did my best to get a few selfies w/ some of the artists' hard labors. And then as I approached the quonset, I saw not 1 but TWO entire walls painted, with multiple scenes, and another painted kiosk. At that point I was in disbelief & decided to widen my circle. In every direction, I found more buildings w/ murals. Bakery, P.O., veterinary, garages, and then finally, a large faded mural showing religious ideals and the early believers...and an EXPLANATORY sign... the "Walls of Wittenberg". I couldn't believe my good fortune at stumbling across this huge community treasure. I lament that I ended up there on a late Sunday afternoon... Would've loved to stumble across all these shops on a weekday or Saturday when the shops were open! What a gift these artists have given to Wittenberg! Thanks for lifting my spirits and helping me burn some calories. Fourth of July, billiards, black bears... what a great couple hours of exploration. Thankyou Wittenberg.

We took a few minutes to drive through this small town and look at all the murals which have been painted on the walls of buildings around town. Many are of the people who live or lived in those buildings: People and their animals on the walls of the Veterinary, owners of the Bakery serving their customers, and lots and lots more. All are very well done! Go see!!
