We are a family of 8 with a 7 months old infant, a 9 year old and 90 year old visiting Hilo from Pride of America cruise ship in January 2020! Our needs were catered for by removing two seats of the clean/comfortable van to accommodate the light collapsible wheelchair, providing an infant car seat, stopping more for toilet visits/stretching, spending more educational time at the Volcano National Park by skipping what we are not interested in such as town visits or macadonia nut factory. We were met easily right off the ship. Very gentle, kind, calm driver/tour guide. We never felt rushed. Always accommodating. Booking/communication before was very easy and smooth. No time was wasted during the tour. The final part of visit was super scenic along the coastline to the black sand beach. Solid six hours due to slowness of grandma. This six star tour gave the entire group a very memorable and educational time! Thank you! More than highly recommended, especially in support of small enterprising family business !

If you want to visit Hawaii Volcano National Park, this is the tour to take. Gil led our tour and was waiting for us just as we were told he would be. We immediately jumped into his very spacious van and left before any of the crowds did. HVNP is huge, and I would not take a chance to drive around by myself. Gil knows all the roads there and took us to spots worth seeing. A really cool spot we loved was the steam vent. Before Gil lent us jackets, we were freezing. We stood in front of a steam vent and it felt as though you walked into a sauna. It felt amazing!!! If I remember, the elevation was slightly higher than 4000'. Getting off the cruise ship I believe the temperature was in the 70's. When you get out at HVNP, the temperature was in the upper 50's with a very strong wind making the drizzle go sideways. Gil saved our family having extra jackets, and we could not thank him enough. We were also taken to Rainbow Falls and saw some huge banyan trees as well. Another stop on the excursion was to see the Akatsuka Orchid Gardens. The final stop was at a beach that had black sand. Gil provided snacks during the trip and allowed the 6 of us on the excursion to eat an entire box of chocolate macadamia nuts. My 2 boys were most appreciative of that! Great tour!

Very well organised from the start and with just 2 other people we were to able to adjust the itinerary to suit our needs.

My wife and I joined several others from the Star Princess on a clear sunny morning in Hilo. We were met by Gil, a charming, articulate, calm and efficient guide. He took us first to Richardson Beach - opportunistically - since we were the only people there and on this clear morning it was beautiful. On the way to Volcanoes National Park we learned about the recent eruptions at Kilauea and earlier history of the island. At the park we checked in, saw a video in the visitor center then made the short drive to our view of Kilauea. As we explored other areas on foot, Gil gave us a wealth of information of what we were seeing and what to look out for. On our return we spent 20 minutes at the Orchid Farm, which was most impressive, and a similar amount of of time at Rainbow Falls. Finally a drive through Hilo and a stop at the Japanese Garden, from where we decided to walk back to the ship. It was great to be in a small group, with a comfortable van and an outstanding guide. This was THE highlight of our cruise from Los Angeles.

Gil and Tina were so professional from the first email discussion we sent. They had a comfortable van and showed us all around the island. We negotiated for a stop at a lava tube. We stopped at Rainbow falls. We went to the caldera, steam vents and walked on a lava field. We went to an orchid farm and made a stop at a black sand beach. It was a wonderful day and I would highly recommend them.

We wanted to ensure we got the best experience touring the volcano national park and booked this. Gil, arrived promptly at the Visitor Center to greet us. We were a group of 7 and were driven in a very clean, air conditioned bus. Gil is very knowledgeable about all things regarding the volcanos. He took us to all the best spots where we made frequent stops to stretch and walk to the site. He supplied water and light snacks throughout the tour. It lasted a good 3 1/2 hours, where we learnt a tremendous amount.

Well, not sure why anyone would want to spend their life on the Big Island of Hilo. Gil, our amazing tour guide convinced us that living there is special. There are several active volcanoes. They experience earthquakes daily and you don't necessarily feel anything. Plus they get Tsunamis. We toured Volcano National Park where we saw the volcano that had the most recent eruption. We were so surprised to learn that the lava doesn't spew from the top but comes out the bottom causing the crater to collapse. We also traveled to the Orchid gardens, where I purchased an orchid that will in time get a beautiful flower. From there, we went to the Macadamia factory where there was a wealth of different flavored Macadamia nuts displayed for you to sample. You can sample as much as you like. (That was a surprise). Gil was definitely a wealth of information. The vegetation on the island is beautiful. After all his explanations and passion for his island, I do understant why people live there. Thank you Gil for a fabulous day.

Heel mooie uitstap! We bevelen deze organisatie zeker aan. We kregen heel veel en interessante uitleg. Heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Je hebt tijd genoeg om rond te kijken en foto's te nemen. Mooie wagen met airco, rijden heel voorzichtig!

Almost not worth going, because there were no active volcanos that had just exploded... I was rather bored, & kinda felt like I was my time. I'm sure other had different experiences depending on when they went.

Aloha Joy, I don't see your name on any of our past bookings so perhaps you posted this under the wrong company. While it is true the Volcano is not flowing lava at this time there is still much to see and learn about our Kilauea Volcano. We view the large crater where the 2018 eruption caused it to sink from 300 feet to 1600 feet deep. We also walk out on a past lava flow to view various formations. Besides seeing the Volcano we also see an Orchid Farm where 500 orchids are blooming. We also take in Rainbow Falls and a Black Sand Beach where we always hope we will see some turtles. Our goal is for our guests to have a great time viewing various sights and also learning about the Volcano and what life is like living with the Volcano in our back yards.

I often use a foldable mobility scooter. It's lightweight and folds into the trunk of my car. Would I be able to take that along? Also do you have a step to use into the van? Thanks

Aloha,
We often get folks who want to see the sights and who use a foldable scooter. So we would be able to store it in the rear of our six passenger van. But I wonder, how much does it weigh? And would your husband be able to lift it in and out for your use? I drive this van so I would be helping to lift it out also. We use a small step stool to bridge entering the van, it helps for those of us who are not too tall. However, this van is closer to the ground for easier entrance.

Thank you Geoff for asking about the tours we offer while your ship ports in Hilo, Hawaii.
The time we meet in the port is dependent on the time your ship docks, for most ships it is 8:30 am.
We never bring you back from the tour late. Our tours last 6 hours and we often see the sights before most of the big bus tours arrive, and return to the ship
to have a safe two to three hour window before all aboard.
We would like to ask that if you would visit our website directly, using the link on trip advisor. We can reply specifically as to our availability for your date of arrival.

We are cruising on Ruby Princess and will be in Hilo the 8th of October. We are interested booking with you and are wondering how lunch is handled. We are a couple, but might have 2 other couples who might also be interested.
