While the views and layout (other than 16 and 18) are spectacular, the course is currently maintained like a $20 municipal track. Some bunkers were rock-hard. Others have weeds and moss growing in them. (None of them actually had playable sand of any kind.) Some grass bunkers that were meant to be mowed had knee-high weeds and looked like they hadn’t been touched in weeks. The fairways and tee boxes were also overgrown with weeds. Drainage is also a serious problem. I played a week after a storm. Bunkers still had standing water, and the back nine was mud. My cart had a touchscreen on it, but it didn’t work.
I complained after my round, and the head in the pro shop said that these were all features that made the course so tough. That’s nonsense. The course is difficult because of the layout and winds.
This was the most disappointing round I’ve played in years. Given how current management maintains the course, the round is a total ripoff at $165.

コオリナを予約したはずが名前が似てて間違えてこちらを予約してしまいました。気をつけてください。自然の中で凄く気持ちいいですが、ボールは必ず10個以上は無くすと思います。

This course first, is beautiful. Once you're done admiring the course reality sets in... it's challenging.
Thankfully the carts have the latest GPS technology along with HD screens with aerial views of each hole.
My advice is leave the driver in the bag.

This is possibly the most beautiful, picturesque golf course that I have every played. The mountains are stunning which add to an interesting layout. That said, this course is not meant for high handicap players - if you miss the fairway, the rough will swallow your ball (and forget even trying to find it if your ball veers off the hole -the vegetation is extremely thick). What is most difficult is carrying the ravines, some of which are close to 200 yards which is beyond my capabilities. Also note the course does aerate the greens in September like many Hawaiian properties, though they were well top dressed and could be played though they were exceptionally slow with little break. A discount for the course condition should have been offered.

While the golf course itself is very impressive, both because of its location at the foot of the Ko'olau mountains as well as the truly challenging set-up of the course, the facilities both off- and on-course are in need for some make-over. Also, both the range and the snack-shop were closed and the restaurant is only open until 2.30pm. At that price you'd expect a bit more.

Played on a Tuesday late morning. Sunny day. Course was a bit soggy from rain the previous day. Sand traps were more mud holes, so I didn’t play from those.
I usually loose maybe 1 ball a round. I lost over 10 here, so bring at least a dozen because, if you miss a fairway, it is lost.
Super friendly staff. The snack shop was closed on Mon / Tues so you had minimal selection of snacks at the turn. The restraint did have some quick options.
Definitely worth playing for the unique scenery but one of most frustrating rounds I have played because of losing so many well played balls that just landed off the fairway.

Played Ko'olau on a Monday afternoon. The scenery was great but the course was in awful condition- greens were almost unplayable and the fairways were too wet and limited actual fairway grass. I thought it was pricey for the shape the course was in. It is very very tight so bring lots of balls and your camera, the scenery is amazing.

One of the most scenic golf courses, even compared to Kapalua. The rainforest location beside the towering mountains is extraordinary, but conditions are horrible. Muddy conditions, fairways where the rough is like fescue grass, fairway hits that plug , damp 'greens', totally unforgiving off the fairway and huge carries over creeks with bad lies, ouch! The scenery is spectacular and the reason why conditions were accepted. Need a good supply of balls. Friendly staff. Was once a premier destination, judging by the clubhouse. Must Try! If conditions were good, this would be unbelievably fabulous.

This course is beautiful and this course is HARD. The layout was fabulous although it took the driver out of your hands a lot. It was pure target golf in a jungle setting. Balls missing the target are gone forever into deep ravines and impenetrable jungle.
Play it for the experience. Every 10 handicap and below should give it a try. Pick a dry, sunny day. Demerits for some spotty conditioning in a few areas.
Staff was very friendly and pro shop had an excellent selection (and plenty of balls for sale).

If you want a different, truly memorable round of golf, this is the place to go. You can play manicured Resort courses anywhere in the World but this place is truly unique. We organised a shuttle and golf through the Tour Desk at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort and got picked up by Mike from Mikele Tours. He is a keen golfer, so joined us to make up a group of 4. I think he does this a lot, as he gets paid for the transportation, gets a game of golf, and seeks a Tip for his caddy skills and Flora/Fauna knowledge around the course. His advice on where to hit the ball was invaluable. I have a handicap of 13.9, which equates to 17 off the blue tees (slope rating 141), lost only 3 balls, and hit 93 gross. Hire clubs were Callaway XR’s which worked fine.
The Course was in better condition than I expected, yes, it’s preferred lie tee to green, but the overall experience and awe-inspiring views are worth the trip. Enjoy !!
