This was a great park. Surprised by how many people were here, actually. It was late in the day, and we had a great time in the Visitors Center--shich is far better than the visitors center at Acadia. Don't miss it!

This was my favorite part of Acadia! We were there on a Monday, and when we arrived at the visitor center we were literally the only people apart from the park ranger. Even the spectacular Schoodic Point was sparsely peopled, so we were able to enjoy the gorgeous view in quiet. The entire Schoodic National Scenic Byway was a welcome contrast to the crowds in Acadia (and we were in the island part of the park when no large cruise ships were in port).

Schoodic Park is a BEAUTIFUL peninsula and was by far my favorite spot in Acadia National Park. It is flatter so even an older person like me could really enjoy riding abike in the park and stopping along the scenic highway.
At the point, called Schoodic Point, there is a lovely .7 Mile hike that has 3 small paths to hike to the water and is a lovely hike. The woods are beautiful with rolling moss hilly ground within the forest. The paths are nice and relatively easy but lots of roots to watch out for. But the views --- MAGNIFICENT!!!!

We did the scenic byway. It’s one way most of the way. A lot of great views. Watch out for bike riders and stopped cars. There are several hiking trails. There’s also a campground

The kids, aged 7-17, had a blast clambering over the rocks, pretending to fall over cliffs, etc. Beautiful views, nice parking area with washrooms, abundant flowers. Very nice.

Outstanding! If you are looking for a lower key part of Arcadia- this is for you. It's just as gorgeous (although possibly a little tricky to navigate as there are not a lot of signs) as the main(e :)) part of the park but you'll have it almost to yourself. In summer! I would probably just stick to this part of the park next time I go in season because it's so peaceful. Also you can bring your dog!

Probably our favorite day all week at Bar Harbor area was spent at Schoodic. Less crowded, amazing views, and a nice smooth ride.

Took the Windjammer Ferry from Bar Harbor to Schoodic Point and had a great time walking the Rocks and listening to the crashing waves at Schoodic Point. Beautiful Landscape!!

You drive along the coast. Good views. You just might get lost as there are no signages. Paper map recommended.

This place is beautiful and is less crowded highly worth the drive to spend a day at. If you go in the morning it will be less traveled.

Are the trails ok for someone with mobility issues?
STP
Camden, Maine171 مساهمة
While most are designed for minimal hiking/walking exertion there are very few that I would recommend for people with ambulatory or mobility issues but that is only my opinion. That said you can traverse the entire park in a motor vehicle and there are some parking areas where vantage points are wheelchair accessible. I would suggest checking out the Friends of Acadia website they have all the information you would need on how to access areas of the park for those with mobility issues.

P.s. the black flies are not as bad as I thought they would be, but they are here.

How are the bike trails in the Schoodic Peninsula? I consider myself to be a 'bike rider' as opposed to a serious cyclist. Can handle moderate hills, but prefer flat terrain. My bike tires are not mountain bike tires. Bike has 18 speeds. Wondering if I should bring my bike (?). Will be bringing my kayak - any suggestions for kayaking?

Biking on Schoodic Peninsula
Bike Paths – The bike paths of Schoodic Woods connect to the Park Loop Road of the Schoodic section of Acadia National Park. The 8.3 miles of well-graded gravel bike paths echo the carriage roads on Mount Desert Island, down to the carved wooden signs. In addition to adding to the 6 miles of the one-way Schoodic Park Loop Road that bicyclists have long been able to enjoy, these new paths provide an important connection between the east and west sides of the peninsula. That means bicyclists don’t need to ride on busy ME 186 to circle back to the Schoodic Woods Ranger Station if they decide to bike the Park Loop Road. The bike paths intersect with Buck Cove Mountain and Lower Harbor Trails, so visitors can combine a bike ride with a hike. Be aware that The Buck Cove Mountain path is elevated more than the other bike paths.
Among the destinations you can bike to, as marked by the carved wooden signs:
Winter Harbor
Frazer Point picnic area
Schoodic Point
Bunker’s Harbor
Wonsqueak Harbor.

What are some dog friendly places?
STP
Camden, Maine171 مساهمة
Maine law requires dogs not on your own property to be on a leash at all times. You will find the enforcement varies by community. Maine law: 7 MRS §3911, “it is unlawful for any dog, licensed or unlicensed, to be at large, except when used for hunting.”
I have never been here, but it looks beautiful. Weird question, but does anyone think a quick 10 minute wedding ceremony with 10 people would be possible overlooking the ocean somewhere on Schoodic? No chairs, just everyone standing. thanks!

They are allowed, quick Google search which show pictures of Schoodic Point weddings. I'm not certain if any permission is required but I doubt it. You could always check with the National Park Service.

Schoodic is not operated with personnel from National Parks. It is a section away from the main Park. It is actually a drive thru eye popping mini adventure.

Will be visiting Acadia NP the week of July 23-27 and going over to the Schoodic Peninsula one of the days. Are there any places to rent bikes near the park?

What would be the best place to see the lobster/fishermen & women? Also, is it okay to drive an RV on the Schoodic Peninsula Loop? If not, are there bicycle rentals? Thanks!! We can't wait to visit!!

Birch Harbor (right near the Schoodic entrance) is a wonderful place to see lobster and fishermen and women in a scenic setting with the Prospect Harbor Lighthouse in the backdrop. You can drive RVs through the Schoodic Loop, there is also RV parking at the visitor center. You can rent bicycles at Seascape Kayak & Bike just outside the park entrance at Winter Harbor.

Visit Bar Harbor for good food....I would recommend Stewmans Restaurant which is right on the water.....boat rides, whale watch tours on beautiful boats and lots of stores to visit with great Maine products. Do go to the "quiet" side of the island and visit Northeast Harbor where you can take the mail boat out to the Cranberry Islands. Thuya Gardens is located in Northeast Harbor with beautiful gardens. Ask for directions in NE Harbor. Also, Southwest Harbor offers cute little shops and places to eat. Beyone that is Seawall.....looks out at the ocean, lots of rocks and ocean pools to look for special tidal objects and cool breezes to enjoy. Hike Ships Harbor Nature Trail and Wonderland Trail which are both easy and take you through wooded areas to the ocean. The town of Bernard features Thortons Restaurant which sits on a harbor and has wonderful lobster stew, crab cakes and many other delicious lunch and dinner items. Enjoy the island.....when you first cross the bridge onto the island there is an Information center on the right....stop there for lots of maps and info.
