Extremely well-done museum showing the history and culture of the first inhabitants of the area. All the exhibits were excellent, and the museum was clean, easy to navigate and loaded with great information. This was one of the highlights of our time in Bar Harbor. Luckily, we found parking (no small feat in Bar Harbor in October) right across the street. We spent a lot of time and could have stayed longer - fascinating history and presentation. cannot recommend any higher if you have any interest in the indigenous peoples.

We stopped in here on a chilly afternoon while taking a break from the activities at the park, and were pleasantly surprised at the breadth of knowledge and the scope of the artwork exhibited here. This ethnographic museum is dedicated to the Wabanaki history and culture, with exhibits on Wabanaki artwork, religion, language, and a very frank, objective assessment of the US government's relationships with the Wabanaki. I appreciated that the Abbe directly collaborates with Wabanaki community members on the best ways to display and annotate the exhibits so that everything is presented in the most truthful ways. This museum deserves much more support and attention from tourists. Please note that the museum doesn't have its own parking lot, so you'll need to find street parking.

The museum exhibits have been moved to Bar Harbor because of staffing issues. We walked the trails, though, which were interesting even though it was raining the whole time. Very different scenery from the rest of Acadia.

This was our rainy day activity. The forecast for this day had light showers and overcast, so we stopped here. It was nice to see that the museum was now focused on indigenous people of the area. The exhibits were of the indigenous' people's craft work, boats, tools, and clothing. Took less than 1 hour to browse the museum.

the exhibit of children's art was FANTASTIC! each item impressed and touched me in so many ways. the rest of the museum provided much information in a direct and objective way. Would return.

We entered the museum and the woman that took our entrance fee was so nice and knowledgeable. We toured the entire museum learning more and more about the indigenous people of Bar Harbor. It was an education; that is for sure.

Very tasteful and thoughtful introduction to Maine’s indigenous people. Their story is told through their eyes, and we were moved by their artistry and history. We came away with a desire to learn more, not only about the Wabenaki people, but also about other Native Americans.

After checking out what museum offered visited and although small was a very nice experience to learn about the first people’s of the area

I learned so much about the indigenous people of Maine. I came away with a much deeper appreciation of the various groups that live in Maine. I loved hearing their own stories, seeing their art, etc.

I really wanted to like this museum better as I appreciate native american history but this just was not that interesting or well put together. Like someone said most interesting thing were the canoes.
