We took our dog for a hike to Margarette Falls. The first half mile of the hike is on a gated road to the official trailhead at a kiosk. Go right at the kiosk and then left at the next split for Margarette Falls Trail. It follows West Fork Dry Creek upstream to the falls. The first half of the trail is pretty easy until the bridge. The trail becomes more rocky and there is another crossing without a bridge. In high water, it was tricky to get across dry. The trail ends at the beautiful 60-foot waterfall. In high water, it was really scenic. An unofficial trail continues up past Margarette Falls to Bailey Falls, but it would have been very difficult with the dog.

This is quite a strenuous hike for a beginner. Be sure to bring good shoes as your walking on pointed rocks two thirds of the way. The waterfalls are beautiful. You can go right up to the waterfall and touch it.

2.7 hike out and back. The hike up to the metal bridge (halfway point) is fairly standard. After the metal bridge, the trail turns primarily to rocks/boulders. Still a doable and moderate hike but may be difficult for the elderly/handicapable. Important to pay attention to your footing...would not recommend on a rainy day as rocks would be slick.
However, the end result is always worth the journey! LOVELY falls! We had it all to ourselves last weekend! Would love to go back in the summer when we could actually get in the water and little wading pools along the way.
Very scenic and peaceful! Highly recommend!

What a nice, short hike and the falls is really impressive, especially after a hard rain!! The first half is flat and easy, but then the second half(after the bridge) gets a bit steep and rocky. There is one small creek crossing where your feet may get wet. And it's very close to "The Wandering Llamas" where we can hike with llamas, too!

We did Margarette Falls Trail in late December, and it was fantastic! With the snow covering the ground the scenery was very pretty!
This is a 2.7 miles round-trip trail, with about 751 ft of elevation, so it makes for a nice hike (short but with a little bit of challenge). It is rated as moderate but on the day we visited, some parts of the trail were icy, so it made it a bit more tricky. My hiking stick helped me, but my husband and kids did not carry one.
The trail starts out very easy and gets tougher on the way up, due to roots and rocks. Still very manageable. At the fork, stay on the right. Follow the blue markings. At some point you have to cross a stream, but it is very shallow, and there are rocks that you can step on so you don't get wet. We had no issue crossing it on the way there and back.
The waterfall at the end is very beautiful! A great place for a picnic. If you are adventurous, you can keep going on the left hand side and climb up and see the falls from up above.
We loved this trail, not just because of the scenery along the way and the beautiful waterfall at the end, but also because it was also quiet and serene. We only saw two groups on the whole trail.
Highly recommended!

Wonderful waterfall! It's a moderate 2 mile hike. It does get harder as it goes, so if you start having a difficulty you may want to turn around. Lots of scenic areas along the way so take your time to appreciate the surroundings. There are two creek crossings - one with a bridge and the other may get your feet wet. Part of the trail is really rocky, so watch your footing or you could roll an ankle like I did. However the waterfall is quite impressive and worth the trip.

Such a cool trail, keeps changing as you approach the falls, bordering the creek the whole way, there are tons of places to stop for a picnic and take pictures. When water is high, the creek crossings might get your feet wet so be prepared for that! :D

I live within 60 miles of this trail but just became aware of it existence. Not sure why it is not well known locally. Possibly because many people travel into the Smokies for hiking. Between road signs and online directions, the trailhead was easily found. Ample parking in a flat but unpaved lot. No restroom facilities either. I would rate this hike as half easy and half moderate. Very well blazed so getting lost would be very difficult. Some climbing and if trail is wet then it could be treacherous so I would take hiking poles. Beautiful new bridge to cross one section of creek and one small section you must walk on rocks. Many lovely small falls with it ending with the largest namesake one. Nice hike for most ages and abilities.

It a moderate hike with beautiful scenery and water falls along the trail. There is one section of water to cross so will need hiking sticks if using rocks for steps. It is a great hike all year round! If you go when it’s snowy, make sure to wear sturdy shoes and take the hiking sticks.

do you have to hike to see the falls
كُتب بتاريخ 12 مايو 2017
Yes and it is about 2 miles. It is moderate to start and becomes a little more aggressive towards the top. You don't have to be a world class athlete to accomplish, but I wouldn't recommend it for those who are not in decent shape. There is a stream crossing that you have to navigate over rocks to cross.

If they are in decent shape. The only spot that would be tricky is the second river crossing. Most kids would do it no problem because they like to hop across rocks and the water isn't deep if they don't keep their footing, but the trail is steep for about 70 yards past the crossing.
