‪Very interesting site. Casual and pleasant guides. Very little of the house open for visit and house needs better upkeep. Visitor center was closed due to staffing shortages. More money needs to go into the site given its historic importance.‬

‪Really the National Park Service staff was very personable. The self-guided tour was delightful. This is the third location for this summer home and the site is just wonderful.‬

‪The "little place in Harlem" that Alexander Hamilton and Eliza bought. If you're wanting to visit Alexander Hamilton's life after watching the musical, this is one of the spots! The interior has been closed since COVID but you can see a few things from the outside‬

‪If your adventurous check out Hamilton’s “little place in Harlem”. My husband and I took the subway from Midtown to check out this landmark. Not really a lot to say but you can at least say you went there if you’re a fan like my husband is. After that we walked down the main street where are the Apollo theater is and continued to central park and walked it all the way through . Don’t recommend going there after dark.‬

‪Website says they are open, but that a mask is required. We went to visit the site and it’s closed due to covid. Wish they kept the website up to date.‬

‪The website still gives the hours as though they are open, but the alerts page notes that the house is not (and thus, no tours.) Which they had made that more prominent. Had a nice time walking the grounds and explaining who Hamilton was using the placard to kid. Parking can be a problem, but as we got here early, we got lucky and found a space on Hamilton Terrace across the street.‬

‪Because of the popularity of the Broadway show “Hamilton,” today, everyone knows who Alexander Hamilton is. Hamilton Grange is part of the National Park Service and is open to the public with free admission. Our tour guide was Ryan, and he did a great job of explaining all things Hamilton. The house was built by John McComb, Jr. It is a two-story, Federal-style house originally built on Hamilton’s 32-acre estate in Upper Manhattan. The Grange takes its name from Hamilton’s grandfather’s estate in Ayrshire, Scotland. It was completed in 1802, just two years before Hamilton’s death. It was the only home ever owned by Hamilton, and it remained in his family for 30 years after he died. On May 9, 2006, the Hamilton Grange Memorial was moved, once again, to nearby St. Nicholas Park. The park was picked as it was within the boundaries of Hamilton’s original estate where the exterior of the home could be restored to its original condition.

The home has undergone many changes. The Grange reopened to the general public on September 17, 2011. Today, we were able only to see the first floor, which consists of the front entrance hall, parlor, dining room, and library. There were two small rooms – one with a movie about the moving of the house and the other contained informative panels. The lower level is where you enter to start your tour. They have a gift shop; and, where the kitchen would have been is another movie on the life of Hamilton and another room that had more informative panels. The upper floors remain unrestored and closed to the public. Tours are given at 10, 11 and 2 PM.‬

‪Having been to many National Park sites around the country, we are constantly amazed at how well organized and preserved these treasures are for all to enjoy. Always an educational experience, this particular site is in a lovely area of New York City, next to St. Nicholas park and adjacent to the beautiful City College campus. The tour of the upstairs was unfortunately filled, so we were unable to enjoy that. However, there was a good exhibit about Hamilton and all of his accomplishments, as well as a short film on the main floor.‬

‪The tour takes 40 minutes and 10 of it is watching a very boring video about how they moved the house a few blocks down. Worth seeing if you are in the neighborhood. I personally try to go to as many of the national park sites as possible. You can only see the upstairs if you take the tour unfortunately. I suppose it's worth it.‬

‪Alexander Hamilton's summer house...of "It's Quiet Uptown" fame. If you're interested in early American history or the musical, this is a place for you to visit. You can walk around restored rooms on what was the main floor, and below that is a museum about Alexander Hamilton and his absurd amount of accomplishments. We happened to coincidentally go on his birthday, so there was an extra video about Alexander Hamilton being shown, as well as Revolutionary War re-enactors outside with a fife and drum unit.‬
