‪Instructors were lacking.....‬

‪استغرق دورة شريحة لحم / صلصة يوم السبت من 6-10 مساء. كان المدرب (john؟؟ و josh الصاحب له) هم "المدربون" الأكثر غفلة. لنبدأ بالمقدمة الصعبة حول مدى خبرتهم وكان "سيفجر عقولنا" حول كيفية طهي اللحوم. ثم أوضح لنا كيف نقطع البصل - لا نضع في اعتبارنا النفخ. الانتقال إلى كيفية سحق الثوم - ولكن لم يكن هناك حاجة للثوم في الوصفات ولم يكن هناك ثوم متاح للتجربة. (العصف الذهني) . أمضى الشيف (وأنا أستعمل هذا المصطلح بشكل فضفاض) 10 دقائق لنوضح لنا كيفية: وضع البطاطس في مقلاة ، وتغطيتها بالماء ، وإضافة الملح وتغلي. ولكن عندما حان الوقت لصنع صلصة بيرنيس - كان مشغولًا في أي مكان آخر وفُزع فريقان على الأقل لأن الصلصة كانت تخثر. يتألف عرض "اللحوم" من تمليح شرائح اللحم. كانت البطاطس في أكثر من 40 دقيقة قبل أن يدرك أي منهما أن الفرن لا يعمل. لم يعرفوا اسم مساعدة المطبخ الأخرى (كارلا) ؛ ولكن لم تظهر الاهتمام عندما حصلوا على البيرة والنبيذ خارج. يبدو أنهم كانوا في عجلة من أمرنا لإخراجنا ، حيث كنا نجلس ونأكل بحلول الساعة 8: 40 وتم التنظيف في الساعة 9: 15. كانت هذه فئة فقيرة حتى بالنسبة للمبتدئين الحقيقيين لأنها كانت تتعلق بإبقاء الأنا على الطهاة معلنًا (قال إنه المدير العام لجميع المطابخ!!!) بدلاً من تثقيف وضمان تعلم زبائنهم. الثمن جدا مساء. لن أعود وأتأكد من توجيه أي شخص يسأل عما يجب فعله إلى إحدى المدارس العديدة الأخرى للتعليم في أي مستوى. ضعف اختيار الجليد. . . . . تقدم CIA و ICC جميعًا تعليمات وخبرة أفضل.‬

‪Overall the steak and sauce evening was fine, but it was nothing special.

These recreational cooking courses serve 2 purposes: meet people and learn a bit about cooking. There was little effort to make the group a group, so none of us spoke with each other - you could say that was on us vs the chef, but there was no effort to encourage friendliness. We were plopped into preparing the recipes without adequate background information on where the dishes, pans, pots were and cleaning materials/system, how to turn on the stoves, what was the difference of the 2 stoves in the room, which dishes to start preparing, where to put garbage, etc. I felt unprepared for the tasks ahead, but we forged on. The chef took over making some of the more difficult dishes and demonstrating them. Seeing the chef in action was useful, but when we attempted we were rushed or we were told we did not need to because the chef had already done it for all. Most of the secrets that would “blow my mind,” fell short of the mark. Thus, in general, advancement of my knowledge of cooking steaks was minimal.

The class started on time (ended early). The portions were generous. The venue was clean and large. Drinks and nibbles for the evening were available, nicely displayed, and were a welcome treat. They had good music playing throughout the evening. The table for the meal was set for us creating an opportunity to relax.

It is an evening out where you will eat good food at a price. If you can afford it, you may be satisfied; but, if it is higher-priced than your usual evening experience, consider trying out a few recipes on your apartment stove. ‬

‪Took the steak /sauce course on Saturday from 6-10pm. The instructor (john?? and his sidekick josh) were the most inattentive 'instructors'. Let's start with the hard introduction about how experienced they were and he was going to 'blow our minds' on how to cook meat.Then he showed us how to cut an onion - not so mind blowing. Moving to how to crush garlic - but there was not garlic required in the recipes nor was there garlic available to demo this. (mind blowing). Chef (and I use that term loosely) spent 10 minutes showing us how to: put potatoes in a pan, cover with water, add salt and put on to boil. However when it came time to make a Bearnaise sauce - he was busy elsewhere and at least 2 teams were shamed as their sauce curdled. The 'meat' demo consisted of salting the steaks. The potatoes were in the over over 40 minutes before either of them realized the oven was not working. They did not know the other kitchen assistance name (Carla); but did show interest when they got the beer and wine out.

It seemed they were in hurry to get us out, as we were sitting and eating by 8:40 and clean up was done by 9:15. This was a poor class even for true beginners as it was more about keeping the chef's ego advertised (he said he was the general manager of all the kitchens!!!) rather than educating and ensure their CUSTOMERS were learning. Very pricey evening.

I will not return and ensure anyone who asks what to do is directed to one of the many other schools for instruction at any level. Poor choice ICE.....CIA, ICC all offer much better instruction and experience.‬

‪Loved the class and the teacher. The cookies were delicious. It was a pretty long class so by the end we were a little tired (6:30 past 10:30). Worth taking!‬

‪I wanted to take my daughter as a birthday gift to a cooking class at ICE. what a mistake. They canceled the class at such a short notice that I couldn’t cancel my hotel reservation.
They promised a full refund ($300) for the canceled class, no apology or compensation for the hotel.

However, they NEVER gave me the promised refund.
I called several times and eventually just got tired of the bad service and submitted a dispute with my credit card company.

Terrible customer service!!!!‬

‪I loved this cooking class. Most people in the class had average to above average cooking experience, A beginner taking the class would be fine too, because they are there to help you. We made 3 different Healthy Bowls. You work in groups of 4 making all 3 bowls. They use really good ingredients and help you with the order in which to prepared everything so it is all done at the same time. The end results were delicious and I look forward to making them again. The head chef was very friendly and organized keeping the class moving a good pace.‬

‪This is now in the Brookfield place mall building. This whole experience was so dope. The cooking class was so much fun. Our chef Tracy Wilk was absolutely perfect. She made sure we were all on the same page and understood her instructions. We cooked steak, truffle mash, cocktail shrimp, cheesecake, and a ceased salad from scratch. We also made martinis and they had wine for those who don’t like martinis. Had a great time and will be back for sure!!!!‬

‪We had a team outing (20 people) at the Institute. We cooked a three course meal and then had dinner with those meals. The staff was excellent in supporting everything and making it a fun experience. Great for a team outing!!‬

‪This was my second time taking a class. The first was such a great experience.I really wanted to give the class a 5 yet there were some aspects that just did not work. The class was too large and menu too ambitious for the time allotted. As well as, the menu was changed prior to class without notification to participants. The recipes and dishes were divided into groups... for me... I learned to chop. Sadly, that is not a lesson I needed. The teacher was very knowledgeable and very nice. The groups all worked on their individual recipes and there was no opportunity to see or learn what the others were doing. It was great to be with my friends and go through the class together yet I walked away not having any more knowledge of Thai food then before class.‬

‪For my recent trip to New York, I decided to book a cooking workshop with ICE. Having been attending workshops regularly in my own country, I had high expectation of cooking workshop in ICE. I booked a Couples workshop - Bourbon Steakhouse. What made it worthwhile was there was quite a few recipes to cook. Reservations, welcoming of participants were okay. However, instructions from the trainer was not very clear. There wasn't much demonstration also. In fact, I found the overall arrangement during the workshop to be a bit messy. We didn't get to do everything, meaning we don't get to learn everything from the recipe. We had to break up into groups to get each recipe done, otherwise, we may not finish on time. In fact, the workshop overruns too.
However, the recipe was good. It can be reproduced at home. We enjoyed all the dishes though.‬

‪Probably best to do with friends but ok if solo. Recreational classes hold about 15-20 people interested in learning a little more about food. This is first hand access to unbelievable chefs. Hundreds of cuisines and cooking experiences to choose from. Classes last about 4 hours. You are taken through each step in a way that is both productive and entertaining. Just did "Best Homemade Pizza" with Ingrid Wright (Le Cordon Bleu trained), and she was terrific. Definitely will do this again. Great party idea for a group celebrating (just need to reserve space) or even just a fun "girls night out" or mother/daughter experience. Lots of recreational classes are evenings and weekends. User friendly on-line information. This was a fabulous experience. Better than a night on Broadway and a lot less expensive!‬
