This wonderful museum, dedicated to preserving the history of the distinguished US Submarine Force, is located on St Mary’s W street and right off the St Mary’s River. It is right on the street and open to the public for a fee. It is a wonderful place for those interested in naval history and technology. The museum features a collection of artifacts and exhibits that showcase the history of underwater warfare.
Visitors can get a glimpse into what life was like for the crew during long deployments in hostile waters. There are two floors to the museum. The lower floor has the gift shop and the earlier boat memorabilia. There is a periscope that can actually see outside.
The museum's exhibits include informative displays on the history of submarines, the development of submarine technology, and the role of submarines in various conflicts. You can also watch a short film on a loop that describes the life aboard submarines and the narrator does a good job of explaining what it was like to people not accustomed to submarines. The second floor has lots of artifacts from the newer submarines. If you were on a boat you can request to see the file on your boat. There are many pieces of information in the files from stock footage to articles about the boats.
The staff was wonderful, friendly, and helpful. They have done a good job of trying to organize and preserve all the history to present it to the public and to those who served.
Overall, the Submarine Museum in St Mary's, Georgia, is a great destination for anyone interested in the history of the US Navy's submarine service. The museum's exhibits provide a unique and educational experience that is well worth a visit.

We visited this gem in June of 2021. Great examples of the history of US submarines. Staff is very helpful. Highly recomend!

Then we headed to the town of St Mary’s outside the subbase to enjoy the laidback environment of this resort town, but more important to visit the Submarine Museum.
This museum is a MUST visit if you are in the area! The museum (very overcrowded environment) contains LOTS OF “Stuff”, along with a file cabinet full of history paperwork on every nuclear and some diesel boat subs. The curator opened the file cabinet for the Patrick Henry, and several of our group started a search of history about the life and times of SSBN 599!!!!
This museum is a MUST visit if you are in the area! Great little museum and a outstanding tribute to all submariners. Well done and professionally done. Shame Jimmy Carter a former Submariner who lives in Georgia has never visited this piece of Submariner history !

This is probably of greater interest to former submariners rather than the general public - my military-crazy child wasn't interested at all since most of the museum is just memorabilia and newspaper clippings. An ok stop if you're already in St. Mary's, but probably not worth a specific trip like we'd planned.

This was an awesome find as a former submariner. It is a very nice little museum well worth the time and very reasonable entry fee.

This was a wonderful and informative stop on our trip to St. Marys. We enjoyed the museum and the woman behind the counter & working the museum was extremely helpful, attentive and friendly.

It looked real interesting and may be good but I Didn’t get in because I was refused entry for not wearing a face diaper. The lady at the door told me I am entitled to my opinion but we were denied entry for my opinion. I informed her that there is not a single study in the entire world that demonstrates the effectiveness of masks in reducing virus transmission. Not one. She wasn’t interested and Only replied she was following her boss’ instructions.

The collection of data and the stories that are behind the collection are very impressive. This museum is dedicated to very brave members of the submarine service. It makes you appreciate all their service so much more
