Amazings site. No entry and you can get to know the steel history here by walking along a steel pathway. So good they kept it all.

Very interesting to see the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation buildings and learn a little about the iron and steel making and history of late 19th and 20th Century Walking the elevated walkway of the iron making blast furnaces is a nice experience. Never knew so many died and were injured here. The only issue we had is the lack of signage to try and find it and the entrance to the elevated walkway. The Visitor Center and every other thing in that area was closed as it was New Years Eve. Just saw there is a tour guide tour some times. Would love to come back and do that.

Other than the two story climb, what's not to like? (Elevator was not working). Exciting to be so close. Educational to read the plagues.

This is every bit a part of American history as the Liberty Bell or Washington's Crossing. If you can, catch a tour with the Museum of Industrial History nearby.

We stopped in the Visitor’s Center and the nice worker told us about the guided tour for $15 per adult. We splurged and are so glad we did! Larry was a knowledgeable former steel worker whose stories and information kept our attention, made the tour so much fun, and super educational. Take the tour and hope you’ll get him. Money well spent!

This was a really cool area to see and check out. You couldn't go to the viewing deck when I visited due to covid but still cool to see.

Sign clearly states “Open Sundays from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM” and, you guessed it! Locked up tight at 3 in the afternoon. Place looks pretty cool from the sidewalk out front. That’s all we saw. Too bad.

Anyone interested in the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation, iron and steel making, or the history of late 19th and 20th Century heavy industrial development should take the opportunity to visit the Hoover Mason Trestle located in the former Bethlehem plant of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Both fee based guided walking tours and free self guided walking opportunities are available. Walking the elevated walkway of the trestle is a nice experience in itself but the ability to walk within a close distance away from five huge now idled iron making blast furnaces is very unique. There is enough explanatory signage to interpret the blast furnaces and several other adjacent former steel making facilities on an unguided walk, but the contributions of a knowledgeable guide make an even better experience for anyone interested in these structures and the history of Bethlehem Steel. There is elevator access at one end of the trestle for anyone with mobility or accessibility issues. I highly recommend this experience to individuals, groups and families.

.....Remembering those forced to work in inhumane conditions. Felt the pain and the multiple accidents that happened on the trestle and the myriads of worked forced to work as slaves in the 19th and 2oth centuries when slavery was banned. It is a place that you need to visit for us, leaving in comforts and lavish styles remembering those humble workers that make Bethlehem steel one of the top sites in the USA.

This is an amazing place to go for a nice walk while getting an up close view of the "steel stacks". The decommissioned Bethlehem Steel factory leaves this beautiful skeleton of the industrial era. Whether you are an engineer, history buff, kid, or walk enthusiast, this site has something for everyone. An additional bonus is the nice kid-friendly food court, the souvenir shop with an assortment of fun kitschy treats, and an amazing Christmas market that springs up at this site at Christmas. (I visited several times last year, including at Christmas)!

How do you get up on the trestle? I have difficulty climbing stairs. Thanks.

There's an elevator to get up to the walkway. There are some stairs along the path, but they are 2 or 3 at a pop. Reading what the weather is like on the east coast right now, I can't imagine that this would be a fun walk right now, as it's completely open to the elements. However, definitely recommended, Seeing the blast furnaces that up-close is pretty amazing.
While you are in Bethlehem, even tho it's November as I'm writing this, I'd recommend Penn State Ice Cream, on the main street across from the Hotel Bethlehem. Their ice cream is the bomb. My brother-in-law went to Penn State; he tells me that this is one of two places to get this ice cream (the other is at Penn State).
Of course, there is also the crazy amount of historical buildings and such in Bethlehem to see, but...ice cream.

We have a group of seniors who’d like to visit HMT but are concerned about the number of stairs and amount of walking. Can you give some perspective on this?

There is a elevator to the trestle but the walk is probably about a 1/2 mile and then you need to walk back to the elevator

Want to do self guided tour and walkthe Trestle, are there hours of operation? Do you need to purchase a ticket?

If I remember correctly it's an open public place and I think you can just go there. The ticket was for the guided tour, which I thought was very worthwhile. I grew up in Bethlehem and my Dad was a mechanical engineer at the plant in the 50's and 60's. I learned a lot on the tour. highly recommended.
