I walked around the reservoir before and after the Groundhog's Day festivities at the Turtle Back Zoo and it is such a pleasure to walk around the park and enjoy the cool air. The views are beautiful and it is so quiet and relaxing.

The reservation is quite extensive. The reservoir park in the reservation is just relaxing and beautiful perfect for outdoor activities- walking jogging. There’s a seasonal boat pier and a nice kiddie park. There are picnic tables but no venues opened out if season.

Поехали специально увидеть Hamlock Falls, который находится в этом парке. Пока ехали вдоль парка, было несколько небольших паркингов. На
паркинге, который находится ближе к водопаду, мест не было. Расчитан всего на машин 12-14. Пришлось ждать около 30 минут, чтобы освободилось место. До водопада шли минут 8. Сначала увидели маленький водопад, чуть подальше сам Hamlock. Он прекрасен! Есть скамейки, чтобы посидеть. Справа от водопада сделана лестница. Можно подняться наверх. Оттуда красивые виды вниз.
Указателей в самом парке нет. Спросили у проходящих людей.
Много тропинок в парке, которые просто состоят из камней, поэтому нужна удобная, спортивная обувь.

If it wasn’t for the graffiti, trash scattered around and countless dog poop bags it would have been a decent trail. I must have counted over 7 filled poop bags scattered on the side of the trail along with PPE and other “covid-19 equipment.” This place was the worst and the falls were underwhelming to say the least. One and DONE.

Beautiful park, trails, and reservation, but far too crowded for my tastes. It's acccessible through many forms. That said, there was no adherence to the 50 percent available parking lots and social distancing. There were many big groups on the main trail, many people without masks, a little too comfortable getting closer than six feet. One guy upon looking at our masked selves said, I got a test, I am negative! We didn't engage. We did manage to get some space once we got beyond the main trails and explored some about the park, but we won't be back for awhile.

We took a hike starting in the parking lot of tulips Springs. The height is approximately 1.6 miles and takes about an hour. The signage is very good and you will see two falls, one small and one bigger.
This hike is not for those with a stroller or mobility issues. Definitely a good hike for those with pets and children over the age of four. I would rate the hike relatively easy but is not on a smooth surface. It is very shaded and has some nice scenery. In fact, you take the bridge that goes over S. Orange Ave.
If they were a negative to this hike it would be the morons who don’t wear masks despite the signage indicating it is required. I wish the sheriffs office would enforce this and issue tickets.

It was a fun walk around with friends, relaxing and very connecting to Mother Nature. We will be doing it again.

We enjoy our daily two-mile walks at the South Mountain reservoir. The beautiful views of the reservoir and the surrounding woods allow us to take time out to get our power walk and to de-stress. Whether I'm walking with my husband and our dog or with friends, I enjoy taking the time to photograph the changes of the seasons and to appreciate the turtles, geese, and other small animals we find along the way.

Essex County did a great job revamping this property. New and clean facilities. Very well kept and safe. Free parking. paddle board, playground, picnic area, and walking path.

Hello: It looks to me on the map that there should be a trailhead on South Orange Ave. that would provide a short walk to Hemlock Falls. Can anyone tell me where that is? Is there parking available there?

There is a parking area on South Orange Avenue but it is only accessible in the aeastbound direction. There is a parking area just past the (first) pedestrian overpass on South Orange Ave.

I am trying to plan a family reunion picnic at South Mountain Reservation and was wondering if anyone can recommend the prettiest/best picnic spot with grills and perhaps some sort of shelter? We will be about 100 people and have a permit app but don't know what area to pick.

There is a Waterfront restaurant and a pavilion for parties right in front of the beautiful lake and is awesome .....Iam not sure about the authorities concerned for seeking approvals.

I'm interested on taking pictures of the NYC skyline at night. Can I access Crest Drive after 8p or is there a gate that locks it? Thank-you.

There is no gate at the access point on South Orange avenue,though there is a significant amount of road construction in the area. There area by the Eagle Rock access is also the way to a restaurant Highlawn Pavillion, so it is clearly open.
