‪The last time I was here was when I was about 10. It is a well-maintained example of 1700-1800's iron making. We had a 10-minute introduction by Johnny, a volunteer ranger that provided a great overview of the furnace. He painted a great picture of what life was like back in the 1700 - 1800's when the furnace was active. It was amazing to learn that they had to supply an acre of wood to make charcoal to run the furnace for just 24 hours. There is an introductory video available for viewing as well.‬

‪This was an off the beaten path national park. There is a decent sized free parking lot, and a small visitor's center/museum/gift shop. I started with a short film about the site and area. Truly interesting learning about an industry/era that defined our nation.‬

‪My husband and I visited Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site on March 26, 2022 on a whim after spending some time in French Creek Park. As soon as we arrived a park ranger asked if we've ever been there before and offered to walk around with us to explain the exhibits. We gladly took him up on his offer. He knew tons of information about the historic site even though he had only been working there for a short time. He was enthusiastic about history so we learned a lot and had a great time. The site is beautiful and full of history. We loved it and will return again.‬

‪My husband and I went here on a late fall day. Considering the time of the year we went, it was mostly empty. Hopewell Furnace shows what a former iron town used to look like in the late 1700s. It featured houses, a store, a barn with sheep, several buildings with things used for coal mining such as a water wheel and cooling shed. My favorite part was looking at the old children books and toys in one of the houses. They have a lot of hiking trails nearby. While driving to the historical park, we passed by several other furnaces in the area.‬

‪This is a must see for any National Park Site lover or history buff. This is a well maintained National Park Service Historic Site. There is a small exhibit about the iron furnace in the visitor center and the Park Ranger and volunteers are happy to share information. The buildings have interesting and informative signage. It is adjacent to French Creek Park with excellent trails.‬

‪We had never heard of this site but stopped by on the way to Valley Forge for the weekend. Had so much fun and learned a lot!! Would recommend visiting before Valley Forge versus on the way back after. We completed the Junior Ranger Activity booklet and badge program. We had yucky weather (hot and humid in July) but we finished seeing all of the buildings and exhibits in around two hours.

We ran into several rangers who each greeted us and warned us about the incoming thunderstorm. They were all so pleasant and eager to answer our questions! Plenty of parking available in front of the visitor center. Limited cell phone service in the area, so download GPS directions ahead of time! The gravel are well-marked but a little hilly, so wear comfy shoes!‬

‪Very interesting attraction we stumbled upon during prior visit to the area and came back to see in detail!
We love industrial era ghost-towns . It is such a pleasure to explore and discover various buildings and structures of Hopewell Furnace village. Late September Friday very few visitors here and a chance to see everything in unhurried fashion.
We were able only to see the buildings from the outside due to coronatime precautions but the visit was educational and truly interesting.
Also nice chance for a walk on the trail to Hopewell Lake!‬

‪Off the beaten path. This gem is easy to miss. Great Americana. Called an "Iron Plantation," the blast furnace, water wheel, machinery, cast house and charcoal house are unique. This predates the use of anthracite coal.‬

‪It’s always been on our todo list after seeing the “brown sign” on the turnpike. Glad we went! We really weren’t sure what the location had to offer but the ranger was available and very friendly!! We even got Junior ranger books for the kids to do, they are free just ask. Lots of nice looking trails and picnic areas. They are redoing some areas so be prepared for a porta-potty. Haha very clean and informational. It’s a must do! We took a 3yr, 7yr, and 10yr and they had a great time! Plenty for all ages! Pack a picnic- you will want to stay all day.‬

‪I visited on an overcast, cool day in February. There were very few other visitors, and no 'living history' events in the off-season, but was still a worthwhile visit. The ranger on duty was effusive and friendly; the introductory film informative; the exhibit in the visitor center enlightening. I could then meander around the well-preserved village at my own pace, reading the signs, wandering into the building (many of which were open). Then I took a stroll on the trail to Hopewell Lake.‬
