Wasted an hour and a half. The band was simply killing time. In the nearly 2 hours we were there we sat through 1 real jazz piece where Sam, on trombone, was excellent, but the rest of the time was waisted on a rap song, a band break, 2 introductions of the band members, dialogue about how long everyone was married, birthdays and general time kill. Mid-priced drinks ($15-16) that would be ok if there was entertainment. Though Sam’s trombone was very good, it was conspicuous he was saving his lips 90% of the time.

Complete waste of money. Changed event fee ($65) and then were asked several times to tip musicians. Then pressured into buying expensive drinks. Not much music played…lots of breaks and chatter by music group.

Very nice pit stop before heading out onto Bourbon Street for shenanigans.
The individuals at the bar area were very diverse and the conversations were flowing.
Great stop!

The music (Brass-A-Holics) was phenomenal; the venue was appalling. The band was the only thing that kept us for leaving early. There were so many awful things about the venue from the seating to the service. If you do not read any further, take this from my review, don't buy tickets and don't count of good service.
Tickets were $61.78, inclusive of tax and fees. We had no problem paying for a great performance, even though it was the only pay-per-show during our week-long jazz tour of New Orleans. What bothered us is that we discovered that tickets were neither required to enter the show or to get a seat. Despite arriving early for the show, we discovered walk-ins were allowed into the show with buying a ticket and were given better seats than our reserved seats. We surmised that most of the guests were unticketed walk-ins. This became apparent when the band repeatedly asked for tips. We tipped every band we enjoyed this trip, but did not expect to have to tip on a ticketed performance. I don't blame the band for seeking tips, I surmise they received very little from the venue for the show. We also could have sat directly outside the door and still enjoyed the performance (this was discovered when we were refused re-entry with a cup of coffee we procured from our room in Sonesta - more on this later).
We had a good view from our seats, but I don't think there were any obstructed seats in the place. Our tickets did not get us comfortable seats or close seats, just guaranteed seats. Instead of the few comfy seats along the side or back walls, we were on narrow chairs in a row, near the back of the room. Despite adequate floor space, these row seats were packed together tightly. We are of average size, as were the guests to our sides, yet we were all pressed together with constant contact of our hips and arms. The average size waitstaff would brush up/bump into my head or shoulders every time they passed behind us.
The bar and staff were terrible. For only the third time in my life, my wife and I (who each spent many years in food & bar service jobs) left no tip. The bar was out of the my first and second choice of the featured drinks on the menu. They were able to make a cocktail (Bee's Knees - equal parts gin, honey syrup, and lemon juice) for me that was not on the menu. Too bad it was small and watered down to the point it tasted like lemon water. My wife's drink was described as having 3 liquors, simple syrup and juice, yet arrived in a large glass that was half-filled with soda water. Waiter insisted she received the correct drink and that it was properly made, and begrudgingly allowed her to replace it with a martini, which was small and watered down.
About 30 minutes lapsed from when we finished our tiny drinks, before our waiter came to us again; just as the first set was ending. We planned to order another drink, but were not given the chance, as the waiter came back solely to distribute checks to every guest. We told him we planned to stay for the second set and would order more drink and some food. We wanted coffee before more cocktails, but they did not have coffee.
During the 30-minute intermission, I went to our room in the hotel and made coffee. I was denied re-entry with the coffee, so we sat directly outside the door while we finished our coffees. Later, we noticed a woman walk in with a beer, show it to the door person, and then come in and sit drinking it. The sound and view were nearly as good outside as they would have been from our paid-seats inside. They were also cooler. The venue was uncomfortably hot to the point we sweated.
The second set was about 60-minutes. During this time, our waiter never once came back to us. Hence, we never got to order a second drink. At one point we asked a waitress for the row behind ours to refill our water glasses. About 25 minutes later she returned with a water pitcher, which she used to refill the glasses in her row, and then she left without offering us water. There was still water in her pitcher, so we assumed it was an intentional slight.
When the second set finished, we were done with the venue. I had to chase down the waiter to get our check and then waited an inordinate amount of time for him to return with our credit card. I planned to pay in cash, but was warned away by another couple who told us they gave him $60 for a $38 bill (when the checks were distributed near the end of the first set) and asked him to bring back their change so they could tip. When the 2nd set was ending, they asked him for their change, and he claimed he 'forgot.' Not a very believable explanation.
Again, the band was phenomenal and worth the price of admission, minus the ridiculous ticketing fee. I would gladly have tipped them more than that, if we caught a full three-set performance. But, there was nothing redeeming about the Jazz Playhouse that would make me ever buy another ticket for a show or buy a drink at a show.
I believe the venue words the ticketing in such a way to make you think buying tickets is required, when, in fact, it is a money-grabbing scheme. I do not appreciate being duped or defrauded.

Good venue, however the night show was very weak. The band played 3 songs and the rest was just nonsense. Little jazz. The guy was making noise with the instrument and just wanted to pass the "bag". I recommend seeing who will be playing so you don't waste your time with noise that isn't jazz.

My wife and I lurched tickets to see Jazz-a-holics. They were awesome. Seats were comfortable. Service attentive. Good drinks. We liked that we were able to reserve seats. The previous couple of evenings we were not able to find decent seats at different clubs.

We've been wanting to see a Trixie Minx burlesque show for a long time and finally had the opportunity last weekend. What a blast! We can't wait to do it again.
First off, the setting is great. For the show we saw, Trixie and cast performed in the Jazz Playhouse just off the lobby of the Sonesta on Bourbon Street. It has a cool vibe, and we were seated in a pair of deep club chairs with our own cocktail table right by the stage. There's a full bar and a small food menu available straight from the hotel's Desire restaurant.
Now for the best part: Trixie is the Queen of NOLA Burlesque! Mention her name in just about any place in the Quarter and people will tell you how much they love her. It's easy to see why. She's hilarious, talented and about the sweetest, most gracious person you could ever meet.
And she's assembled an incredible cast for one of the best tickets in town. The one-hour show featured four amazing burlesque performers: Mamie Dame, Luna Orleans, Takila Sunrise and Trixie herself. These ladies are stunning and are such pros at the art of the tease!
They spend most of their time dancing their way through the audience, and are both sexy and humorous - the secret ingredients behind every great burlesque performer. As an audience member, you may find yourself wrapped in a feather boa, asked to perform a fan dance beside Trixie as your personal coach and cheerleader, or wearing a cast-off sequined bra. On your head.
Of course, it wouldn't be a proper burlesque show without elaborate costumes designed to complement the tease. They're sexy, sparkly, sequin-y and glittery, all the way down to the pasties. You'll get to see each of the ladies in a couple of costumes. Twice the fun!
Each of the dancers performed a couple of numbers accompanied by singer Christina Perez, who has a beautiful voice and light-up-the-stage presence. She was backed up by a fantastic, three-piece jazz band featuring Kyle Cripps on piano, Mika Robbins on bass and Simon Lott on drums.
I can't think of any place where you're going to experience a show like this with so many performers at the top of their game. All for just $25 per person. There's semi-sinful seduction, lots of laughter, and plenty of fun. And the more you encourage the ladies with your enthusiasm, the more fun it is for everyone. It's exactly what burlesque has always been meant to be.
Trixie and her team have a variety of shows available, so make sure to check out her website to find one that fits your schedule. Then grab your tickets early because she's popular. Also, try to arrive a little early to snag yourself a great seat.
After the show, you can say hi to Trixie and the cast, get pics, and pick up some fun merch straight from Trixie's Burlesque Boutique to help remember your experience. Maybe even pick up some pasties and practice a little of what you learned.

We stopped in for a couple of sets during a recent trip to New Orleans. Classy place with great music! Drinks were served in a non invasive way that was not pushy and did not interfere with the music. Be sure to get there early so you have a great spot. We came in deep into a set and our first seats did not have a great view. During the break people left and we were able to move to seats with a great view. Very comfortable atmosphere and reasonable prices made for a wonderful evening.

Do you have to be 21 to enter. Would my 20year old be able to go in and drink Pepsi while we have drinks and listen to music?

There were younger people in the playhouse while we were there. They check ID’s to ensure you are 21.

How early should I arrive on Christmas night to get a seat (I do not have a rez)?
كُتب بتاريخ 19 ديسمبر 2018
I don't really know about how busy this is on Christmas. Could you call and ask the concierge at the hotel, maybe. It's in the Royal Sonesta and he likely could give some advice and also make you reservations. Have FUN!
كُتب بتاريخ 20 ديسمبر 2018
How many acts are there per night, and what time does the music start on a weekday?
كُتب بتاريخ 8 أكتوبر 2018
Hello! We feature one performer each night of the week, with the exception of Fridays when there are 2 shows - a Jazz performance from 7:30pm-10:30pm, followed by an 11pm Burlesque performance.
Generally speaking, the shows begin around 8pm and last until midnight, with scheduled breaks throughout. Please see Royal Sonesta New Orleans' website (Jazz Playhouse) for monthly lineup of talent and other venue specific info. Thank you for your interest!

What is the parking situation if a guest or patron of this hotel?
كُتب بتاريخ 30 يوليو 2018
We parked half a block away at the Hotel Mazarin. There are other lots nearby. It was no issue. $20 for about 6 hours or so. Valet also.
كُتب بتاريخ 4 أكتوبر 2018
Do you have to be a guest at the Sonesta in order to come here? Or can you come just for the Playhouse?
كُتب بتاريخ 19 ديسمبر 2017
You can just come. Although, you’d be better off on Frenchman St. It is a nice looking venue but the service is horrific.
كُتب بتاريخ 19 ديسمبر 2017
Do we need a reservation to see the show on Friday, 12/1?
كُتب بتاريخ 21 نوفمبر 2017
I highly doubt it. You unfortunately jazz is not anywhere near as popular on Bourbon as getting drunk and other music. Just get there a bit early and take your pic of seats. And give the band a good tip, they deserve it!
كُتب بتاريخ 21 نوفمبر 2017
how long is the show? when does it wrap up? If reserve and can show up until 9;30 I assume it goes on for some time after that. Is that correct?
كُتب بتاريخ 15 أبريل 2017
Thank you for your question and interest in The Jazz Playhouse. Yes, you can show up at 9:30pm if you'd like... shows start at 8pm and end at midnight every night except on Fridays where we have a 7pm – 11pm jazz show and an 11pm – 1am burlesque show. We look forward to seeing you soon!
