My wife and I lurched tickets to see Jazz-a-holics. They were awesome. Seats were comfortable. Service attentive. Good drinks. We liked that we were able to reserve seats. The previous couple of evenings we were not able to find decent seats at different clubs.

We've been wanting to see a Trixie Minx burlesque show for a long time and finally had the opportunity last weekend. What a blast! We can't wait to do it again.
First off, the setting is great. For the show we saw, Trixie and cast performed in the Jazz Playhouse just off the lobby of the Sonesta on Bourbon Street. It has a cool vibe, and we were seated in a pair of deep club chairs with our own cocktail table right by the stage. There's a full bar and a small food menu available straight from the hotel's Desire restaurant.
Now for the best part: Trixie is the Queen of NOLA Burlesque! Mention her name in just about any place in the Quarter and people will tell you how much they love her. It's easy to see why. She's hilarious, talented and about the sweetest, most gracious person you could ever meet.
And she's assembled an incredible cast for one of the best tickets in town. The one-hour show featured four amazing burlesque performers: Mamie Dame, Luna Orleans, Takila Sunrise and Trixie herself. These ladies are stunning and are such pros at the art of the tease!
They spend most of their time dancing their way through the audience, and are both sexy and humorous - the secret ingredients behind every great burlesque performer. As an audience member, you may find yourself wrapped in a feather boa, asked to perform a fan dance beside Trixie as your personal coach and cheerleader, or wearing a cast-off sequined bra. On your head.
Of course, it wouldn't be a proper burlesque show without elaborate costumes designed to complement the tease. They're sexy, sparkly, sequin-y and glittery, all the way down to the pasties. You'll get to see each of the ladies in a couple of costumes. Twice the fun!
Each of the dancers performed a couple of numbers accompanied by singer Christina Perez, who has a beautiful voice and light-up-the-stage presence. She was backed up by a fantastic, three-piece jazz band featuring Kyle Cripps on piano, Mika Robbins on bass and Simon Lott on drums.
I can't think of any place where you're going to experience a show like this with so many performers at the top of their game. All for just $25 per person. There's semi-sinful seduction, lots of laughter, and plenty of fun. And the more you encourage the ladies with your enthusiasm, the more fun it is for everyone. It's exactly what burlesque has always been meant to be.
Trixie and her team have a variety of shows available, so make sure to check out her website to find one that fits your schedule. Then grab your tickets early because she's popular. Also, try to arrive a little early to snag yourself a great seat.
After the show, you can say hi to Trixie and the cast, get pics, and pick up some fun merch straight from Trixie's Burlesque Boutique to help remember your experience. Maybe even pick up some pasties and practice a little of what you learned.

We stopped in for a couple of sets during a recent trip to New Orleans. Classy place with great music! Drinks were served in a non invasive way that was not pushy and did not interfere with the music. Be sure to get there early so you have a great spot. We came in deep into a set and our first seats did not have a great view. During the break people left and we were able to move to seats with a great view. Very comfortable atmosphere and reasonable prices made for a wonderful evening.

This was by far the nicest venue which I visited on Bourbon Street. It’s not far from Canal Street/Business District. The club is elegant. The wait staff is proficient, professional and prompt. I really enjoyed my interactions with the door staff. I visited multiple times and was seated quite up front for the first show. The Jazz Playhouse has some great drinks but watch out for that Hurricane! It will really get you if you’re not careful. The food menu is small. This was the first place which I visited after arrival. The experience was a very nice introduction to New Orleans. I did not witness any insufferable behavior; people enjoyed the shows and respected the musicians. This is a real music hall, not a restaurant with a stage. The entertainment is not completely jazz oriented every night. You might catch a funk band, a jazz band, a fusion band, etc. The venue also hosts a burlesque show. Just check before you go. Visiting twice, I didn’t find a reservation to be necessary on either night. However, just in case there’s a large party (bachelorette, birthday, etc.,) making one wouldn’t hurt.

We saw Big Sam's Funky Nation here and it was fantastic! The club is really nice, with good, comfortable seating, reasonable prices, a nice bar and room to move around. Big Sam was having a lot of fun with the audience, coming out into the crowd and later getting people up on stage. It is the ONLY club I've ever been to where the cocktail waiter brought water refills around! It's a class act.

We had a great evening here and the jazz was really good. Enjoyed the drinks and the food was good too. We were told by the Royal Sonesta (in which the Jazz bar is situated) that we had to pre-buy tickets for the wednesday evening jazz on Eventbrite. We did this at $25 each. This was fine, but on the night, people were entering without charge and enjoying the same show - we felt rather miffed about this. People were putting dollars in a jug on the stage but we felt reluctant to contribute as we had already paid!

Let me assure you, October of 2021, the Jazz Playhouse in the Royal Sonesta Hotel is definitely open. Just saw Big Sam's Funky Nation last week. My 2nd time seeing this show and Big Sam always brings it. In regards to Big Sam, he starts right at 7:30pm. End time is 10:30ish, with a couple of long breaks in between. He does songs you know, as well as songs that are more familiar to locals, so something for everyone. He is very interactive with the audience, so good for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Not a real big venue and really not a bad seat in the house. Have always found the waitstaff to be fast, professional and friendly. There is no drink minimum with a purchased ticket. Pre-covid, you could stand at the bar for a set, if you purchased a drink. Not sure if that policy still applies.

So to be fair, it happened that on the night that we decided to visit this venue, they were bringing back their burlesque show for the first time in a year, since the start of the pandemic. I will give them credit for trying to put together something in the midst of all the COVID restrictions, and even more credit to the courageous young women who were having to work with those restrictions and on this particular night, and dancing disrobing on a damp 43 degree night.
At the moment, they have some serious bugs to work out. For obvious reasons, tables have to be separated by the requisite six feet, so there is limited seating. There is no set cover charge, but there is a requirement to order at least one drink or food item per show. For premium seating, you have to reserve in advance for $20, plus the required drink or food minimum. But the issue is that the seating is indoors, but they are not permitted by current city ordinance to have the performers indoors, so you are trying to watch ladies perform in one of two doorways. No matter where you sit in the club, it's impossible to see through both doorways, so everyone will be missing at least half the show. At the front corners of the room, you will miss nearly all the show, and for the first performer, we saw a glimpse of a forearm and a few feathers pop through the doorway a single time. Even when the management allowed us to move closer to the center of the room, visualization was marginal. Of course, they are doing the best they can under difficult circumstances, and again, the performers were certainly doing their best to comply with the city ordinances and still try to entertain the guests.
So if you decide to go, I think it's worth it to pay the $20 premium seating fee, then arrive early so you can choose your seat, with the understanding that you are going to be looking to be able to see through the doorway into the courtyard. Also bear in mind that in the winter, it was quite cold with all the doors open. If you come and need to choose one of the non-reserved tables, better to choose something toward the back of the room where you can see through the doorway. Definitely do not choose a seat toward the side edges of the room. The show lasted a little under an hour. The performance itself is teasing and sultry and reasonably tasteful (for being that sort of show). The venue is classy-looking and clean, and the food was very good.
Hopefully the show will eventually be able to come back indoors so that one can see an entire performance. Honestly, although I understand the reason for the rule, it's a little self-defeating. The performers would be perfectly safe being indoors as they would be more than six feet away from the front row, and the alternative of doing it this way means that the guests are clustering closer together to be able to get a visual on the performers, and all distancing is suddenly lost. Masking is encouraged during the show, even at your table, unless you are eating and drinking, and photography is discouraged.

Do you have to be 21 to enter. Would my 20year old be able to go in and drink Pepsi while we have drinks and listen to music?

There were younger people in the playhouse while we were there. They check ID’s to ensure you are 21.

I don't really know about how busy this is on Christmas. Could you call and ask the concierge at the hotel, maybe. It's in the Royal Sonesta and he likely could give some advice and also make you reservations. Have FUN!

How many acts are there per night, and what time does the music start on a weekday?
Hello! We feature one performer each night of the week, with the exception of Fridays when there are 2 shows - a Jazz performance from 7:30pm-10:30pm, followed by an 11pm Burlesque performance.
Generally speaking, the shows begin around 8pm and last until midnight, with scheduled breaks throughout. Please see Royal Sonesta New Orleans' website (Jazz Playhouse) for monthly lineup of talent and other venue specific info. Thank you for your interest!

I highly doubt it. You unfortunately jazz is not anywhere near as popular on Bourbon as getting drunk and other music. Just get there a bit early and take your pic of seats. And give the band a good tip, they deserve it!

how long is the show? when does it wrap up? If reserve and can show up until 9;30 I assume it goes on for some time after that. Is that correct?

Thank you for your question and interest in The Jazz Playhouse. Yes, you can show up at 9:30pm if you'd like... shows start at 8pm and end at midnight every night except on Fridays where we have a 7pm – 11pm jazz show and an 11pm – 1am burlesque show. We look forward to seeing you soon!
