Gorgeous church! The inside is beautifully ornate. You can light a candle for your loved one. There are stained glass windows and decorated designs on the ceiling. There are obviously services when appropriate, but at other times you can walk all the way around the church. Outside, there are many Artist and jazzy bands that will provide much entertainment. The shops and museums are close by and the adjacent park is a lovely place to relax. This is a good place to visit!

Another history rich landmark. Filled with all of the energy of our ancestors. You must visit this landmark. I was lucky enough to be able to go inside with a parish member, as it is not currently open to the public. But is was so amazing.

I rated 5 stars because I’m sure if we had the chance to participate in their jazz mass we’d love it!
My husband and I went there to check for ourselves and found out that - yes - the church is closed due to the damages from Ilda hurricane.
That was very upsetting! If I had enough money, I’d donate to help them reconstruct the interior of the church.
I hope all gets well soon.

Although the church itself was closed during the hour we arrived, we were still able to see the Tomb of the Unknown Slave and read all historical markers.

This church and the Tomb of the Unknown Slave were mentioned on our hop-on hop-off bus tour as being historically significant, and we got off to check it out.
Unfortunately, the church was locked when we were there. We were expecting the tomb to be in some m sort of courtyard, but it is just a small area next to the church.
It sounds like it would be fun to attend a Jazz Mass.

J'ai vécu un excellent moment, en ce dimanche matin.
Vous arrivez à une église, qui ne paye pas de mine. Mais quand vous entrez à l'intérieur, c'est très beau.
Le gospel était là, mais il est totalement différent de ce qu'on peut voir à la télévision. Par de là, je pense à Sisters Act. Les gens ne sont pas"blacks"avec des de longues robes. Ce sont des gens du pays, du coin, habillés en noir avec une écharpe colorée sur une épaule.
J'ai BEAUCOUP apprécié la chaleur de ces personnes. Ils vous tendent la main.
Vous êtes dans un autre monde, chacun s'apprécie le temps de la messe, peut-être... Qu'importe, cela fait énormément de bien, d'entendre ces chants, ces voix magnifiques!! De voir ce prêtre,qui vit ses discours au point de voir des gens lever les bras et crier!!!
C'est une expérience à vivre!!

My first time visiting this historical landmark in an equally amazing history neighborhood (Treme). Everyone should visit and learn some history about the area as well as the significance of this church in history.

I have never had so much fun at church. The choir was lively with a large brass section. I felt like I had gone to a concert.

This church had wonderful murals and statues to view. There was nice music and it was air conditioned.

I'm a single woman and felt comfortable walking in the area after attending mass on Sunday, even stopped in a corner store down the block. However, I had taken a tour of the area the day before which helped my comfort level. I found New Orleans to be a very walkable city.

We walked back to our hotel and felt quite safe and we are aged 70

Hi, We went to the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, May 6. (I don't recall if they have one on Wednesday.) It's a long Mass (about 1 1/2 hours), at least by our standards. But, it's a magnificent one and worth every minute. I hope you get a chance to go.

Myself, husband and infant daughter will be travelling to NO for our first Christmas as a family, we would like to attend mass on Christmas Day but understand the church will seat its parishioners first. If we show up very early will we maybe find a seat? Or is it standing room only?
