I was gravely disappointed by this "exhibit" with all except the price. It's free of charge to visit!
When we went, we were just walking by, noticed the free museum, and thought we would take a peek. It seemed friendly, but it wasn't. We went to the door, and looked in. The officer inside asked us, "What do you want?" We said, "We want to visit the museum!" He then instructed us to come through a scanner, one at a time, and empty our pockets into an x-ray machine the same way we do at the airport. Then, when we got inside, the officer wanted to look at our Drivers' Licenses. He kept mine for an inordinate amount of time, about 10 minutes, before relinquishing it. He seemed aggravated that we were even there.
The entire museum is in a small section of a small lobby of the Federal Reserve Building. I guess that is why there was the tightened security. I don't know. There were a few pictures, very few artifacts, and not much valuable information. There really wasn't anything there I didn't already know. Most of it had to do with New Orleans' and Louisiana's roles in the history of money and banking.
Kids might like it, (if they aren't bored to tears), especially the interactive exhibits that allow people to make their own currency with their own faces on the front, and have those emailed to them. Also, they give away small bags of shredded, expired money that kids might find "fun." For me, however, I felt it was a terrible waste of time, and I really didn't appreciate the way the officer at the front desk treated us.

OK, so, my wife and I like small, fun, little museums and like finance, so, it's expect we would like this place. And we did. Despite its small size it's really comprehensive and fun to see, with some interactive things such as making your own money, which you can e-mail to yourself; seeing some reasons why we need a strong fed (especially right now), and the staff is fun and friendly. It's free and doesn't take long, although you do have to go through airline-like security. This was the second favorite thing we did in New Orleans besides the Pharmacy Museum.

I had some time to spare on my last day in New Orleans and noticed that my hotel was right next to the Museum of Trade and Finance.
Entry is free, though every visitor has to go through a security check. The entire museum is housed in the ground floor of the building, and all exhibits are displayed in an area not more than 5m wide by 15 meters. Not at interesting for kids, but a interesting visit for people who have some basic knowledge of finance and are interested in learning the roots of the Fed.

Very interesting - only took 10 - 15 minutes to see everything. Kids enjoyed getting the free shredded money. Our hotel was near-by, otherwise I wouldn't recommend going out of my way to see this attraction.

Nice 15 min visit to the museum on first floor. Lots of security as you would think. They do hand out free $$ but it’s shredded! Good visit if you are nearby. Nice guy working security desk! Create your own money via computer they have with your pic. Fun

It's already been said: small museum with multi-media exhibits. Yes, there is security, but you go through it very quickly (think security check at the airport but without any long lines). Security should not be a deterrent.
I read every placard, looked at the specimens in each display, and watched every video, completing the museum tour in about 45 minutes.
HINT: It is not obvious, but there is a recommended order, chronological and topical, for viewing the exhibits. Ask the guard. The guard told me that most people start out of order, and based on my experience, they would get less out of their visit.

This one room free museum is a good stop if you are passing by although security takes some time as you must go through a x-ray machine and provide ID. The interactive kiosks are interesting and the electronic post card is fun for kids. You can take home shredded money as a souvenir.

One room self-guided wall displays about the role of the Fed in US currency. No minting, manufacturing, or otherwise live processes are visible to the public. If you’re in the area you can easily see it all in less than 30 minutes - otherwise the old Mint is much more interesting if you’re time in NOLA is limited.
Both you and your bags will be X-rayed to enter, and you must present photo ID. Though shredded money samples are offered, this “museum” will not be of much interest to children.

Went here to pass some time near our hotel. This is a nice, free presentation of money. commerce, and banking. Easy to see in 20-30 minutes, worth the time. The only negative is that you have to go through security. But you can design your own "money"!
