‪Le Muse de f.b.c. curates such an authentic experience that centers Black history in New Orleans unlike any other place I’ve been to. I walked away knowing and appreciating the city and it’s culture so much more. Make sure to book an appointment ahead of time as all tours must be scheduled.‬

‪This museum is located in a beautiful old house. It celebrates the lives, legacies, and contributions of men and women of African descent who have left an indelible mark on New Orleans, Louisiana and the nation. This institution is dedicated to the collection,
preservation,m and interpretation of material culture; sharing the rich and impactful history of free people prior to the Civil War. Kim--the curator historian and tour leader--gave an excellent presentation.‬

‪My wife and I visited Le Musée de f.p.c. on February 5. Our guide, Kim, reminded me of some of my favorite college professors who could start right on time, talk without looking at a note, and finish exactly at the end of the period. The time was filled with stories, facts, figures, and analysis. My guess is most who visit this museum know little of the history of Free People of Color in New Orleans. Kim made me curious to learn more. Fortunately, there are a number of books on this subject for sale in the museum. Well worth a visit.‬

‪I'm not sure why there aren't more reviews, but Le Musee de f.p.c. is really a must when in New Orleans. As an anthropologist the history and evolution of a place is very important to me. Understanding how a space has grown into it's present existence can only be understood by looking into it's past. During the tour Kim's knowledge of the aforementioned points was astounding. Not only did she explain the trajectory of when New Orleans was established and why, but she also highlighted the complications of identity that still exist. Her ability to provide mathematical calculations was to be admired. I learned so much in a short amount of time and am grateful to have been able to learn from Kim.‬

‪La Musee de f.p.c. had been on my list for a while, and we finally made it during our most recent visit to New Orleans. It has quickly become one of my favorite museum/history experiences in my 17 or so visits to the city.

Visits are by appointment only, so be sure to book in advance. The museum is a quick ride from the Quarter - you can catch the 91 bus line stops right in front.

Curator and historian Kim was our guide; her passion and extensive knowledge of this history made for a thoroughly enriching experience that I would recommend everyone experience. She has clearly done a great deal of historical research in this area, and she presents it in a way that is engaging but by no means superficial. We couldn't have asked for a better guide.

Just by chance, we arrived a bit early. In hindsight, I'm glad this was the case, as the tour is not a tour in the traditional sense; while the house is filled with compelling artifacts and period furniture, the vast majority of these items are not integral to the tour itself. That is, you would do well to take some time on your own to take in the artifacts before or after the tour. The staff did let the group hang back a while to explore after the tour, which we also appreciated. For the latter part of the tour and the time following, we were joined by another staff member who was also excellent - informative, warm, and again - passionate about the work.

The previous reviews that call this a must-see in New Orleans are spot on. I strongly recommend a visit.‬

‪I am a group leader that brought 47 people to this location. This history is exceptional. The staff tells a story that will take you back to a time that the history books forgot. I would highly recommend a visit. It is definitely worth your time!‬

‪As an educated African American educator, I learned some things I feel I needed to know. First and foremost I had never heard of de f.p.c. as in Free People of Color prior to coming to New Orleans. No one had ever shared with me the history of how even in the 1700’s money still didn’t mean you’d be treated any better if you happened to be a person of color even with education and ownership of property. I was even reminded that the Catholic Church even treated African Americans as inferior with their knowledge of the Bible. I’m grateful to have had an opportunity to learn more about my history as a person of color. I would love for more children of color to learn about their ancestors who never experienced life as a a slave as well as the contributions many of them made. It was well worth my time. ‬

‪This was definitely one of the highlights of my visit to NOLA and I highly recommend it. Kim, the museum's curator and tour guide, is extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and HONEST. If you want a candy-coated history lesson, this isn't the tour for you.
However, if you want to really learn about the history of Louisiana, its race relations, and the history and contributions of free people of color in Louisiana, make sure you add this tour to your itinerary. An added bonus is strolling down nearby Bayou Road, which has several cute black-owned shops, including a bookstore, art/concept store, and a pastry shop.‬

‪This is a wonderful small museum. $15 small donation, a 1 1/2hr tour of the history of black slaves, the work of entrepreneurial black men and women in aiding slaves to freedom, along with eradicating poverty, hunger and homelessness. The home, owned by a doctor and his wife, McKenna’s is a well preserved 1850s mansion. Every American should learn this history! Original documents like the Dred Scott ruling, are displayed.
Books can be purchased.‬

‪This museum wasn’t what I expected at all, but it exceeded any expectations I may have had. The home has no historical value as far as f.p.c. However, it was purchased in the late 1990’s by an African American couple to serve as a museum to display furniture, art work and other collectibles they acquired throughout the years. Our tour was led by Kim and was an amazing history lesson about New Orleans and f.p.c. from the early 1700s up until the Civil War and the end of Reconstruction in 1877. I could have listened to Kim all day (and really wished the tour could be longer), but unfortunately, she had to give another tour.‬
