‪I was lucky to visit while they had a traveling display of paintings from scandinavian artists on display. Some gorgeous artwork. The permanent displays are well laid out and informative. Nice videos to view as well .Outside is the Viking ship Nordic Spirit built around 1800 and has some interesting details. Overall an enjoyable visit. Easy walk (10 minutes) from the Ballard Locks and parking is cheaper at the locks .‬

‪Walking in and out of each gallery space, I found myself floored by the design, layout, and attention to detail. Clearly, an overarching story was being told here; a story of a proud people with a rich history, shaped by their environment and brought to America with a deep desire to create a better life for themselves. After a couple of hours, I exited the museum with a better understanding of the Nordic states, and a newfound wish to visit them all.‬

‪Excellent museum, beautiful architecture inside and outside; Many interesting details in drawers you can pull out, in addition to the videos and still photos with timelines and how the immigrants shaped Seattle to reflect their culture. Equally interesting for the whole family; activities for children are also offered. Visit their new labyrinth that was just unveiled a couple of weeks ago. The gift shop has lots of items to choose from, books, food, textiles and items you would like to display in your home.
Also the Freya restaurant is open with tantalizing food and drink items.
There is parking available for $ 2.00 per hour; if you park at the Locks (10 min. walk) parking is $0.50 per hour.‬

‪This is a fantastic museum. Full of interesting artifacts from across history, as well as detailing the converging and diverging paths of the Nordic countries and the sizable immigration to the US. It's modern, clean, and extremely well-maintained. Plus, parking is only $2 an hour, which for Seattle is insanely cheap.‬

‪Northern European history nestled in Ballard, Seattle - a neighborhood that has strong historical ties to Scandinavia. You get to see milestones in world history through the lens of influence and migration from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland. Educational and impressive in it's collective overview and historical scope.

You might go to see the Ballard Locks nearby for more history in action.

‪In a modern, streamlined building, designed to represent an aquatic vessel, the National Nordic Museum represents the Scandinavian tradition of Seattle. The atavistic Nordic relationship with the sea is handled well, at this tribute to the men and women who settled Seattle, and in particular Ballard. Ideals such as independent spirit, hard work, equality for all, and an open mind are stressed as a Nordic way. The displays are well done, and the museum is easy to navigate. Personally, I felt the museum was lacking exhibits on Scandinavian design and architecture, two aspects of the Nordic countries the world tries to emulate. In addition, the "Scandinavian Noir," prevalent in literature, film, music and all the arts, was mostly absent. While sometimes looked at in a negative way, the "Scandinavian Noir" has motivated greatness and creativity. It is integral to any Nordic conceptual view.

Whatever my criticism may be, the National Nordic Museum is a wonderful addition to Seattle, and it honors the people who helped make Seattle a uniquely wonderful place to live and visit.‬

‪The museum is spacious, with highly relevant exhibits covering both contemporary Nordic culture and, probably most crucially, the Nordic background of many Americans. It has recently been updated, so those visiting now have the benefit of the new facilities without having to deal with any construction/renovation. All COVID-19 safety protocols are in place and followed, with timed visits to space out the visitors. The shop is small but has some good merchandise. The only drawback for some visitors might be the location outside the downtown area, but there are buses that can take you there fairly quickly.

I think all of America's diverse cultures require their own museums, and the Nordics are no exception. I don't have that background myself, but having some affinity with the culture, this museum was an important stop for me that I could not find anywhere else, certainly not anywhere in the Northeast.‬

‪We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this museum after it was closed for so long. We had to order our timed tickets, and that was no problem. We revisited some of the exhibits we had seen before, and also the new exhibit about Gudrun Sjoden and her creations. Also enjoyed the photos about Dads and their kids. They are very careful to remind us to use hand sanitizer often, which we appreciate. Parking was no problem. We also enjoyed visiting the museum shop.‬

‪We had a great time visiting the Nordic Museum again. We like this museum for it's easy access and the layout of the exhibits. It is a good place to learn about your culture if you are Scandinavian. I highly recommend the restaurant. The food will remind you of your travels or possibly home. ‬
