Great museum with Icelandic history. We loved visiting the inside of the turf houses. Museum staff were really lovely. The cafe nearby - Freya is wonderful as well.

A great little museum. Spent about an hour walking through the indoor and outdoor section. Had lunch in the cafe….WOW! Viking soup and Viking stew were fantastic. They also had homemade lemonades which were excellent. Definitely plan on lunch at the cafe if you visit. A great stop for those exploring southern Iceland.

There is not much to say. I gained no knowledge of this experience. The ambiance of the museum is dead and desolated. The first part of the visit concerns the main building and displays items of the past. The problem is that while visiting we don’t get what we see. It looks way more like a garage sell; the stuff is placed there, there is neither order nor linearity in the way items are placed. We went from the medals of a random man (he may not have been as random as that seen the medals, but we don’t know who he was) to see a bunch of peasant tools.
The second part is a reconstruction of the house of the time. It is nice to see a reconstruction but it is not worth the price of the whole visit, do believe me.
By the way, I didn’t post pictures of my visit under this review. It is just because I found nothing to picture.

The museum is next to Skogafoss waterfall and was surprisingly quiet when we visited. For us, the highlights were the recreated houses in the open air museum which you could go in and the 15 minute walk to Kverufoss waterfall.
The waterfall path is signposted from the bottom corner of the car park (near the technical museum) and is an undulating gravel path. The waterfall itself is beautiful, despite being less spectacular than Skogafoss. A great bonus is its easy to walk behind the waterfall and we were fortunate to see rainbows across the falls when we visited.
The cafe in the museum wasn’t quite what we were expecting, serving ‘sit down’ meals rather than sandwiches etc but was very good.

This is an excellent museum in a very pretty and remote location. They have a huge collection of items. The little village at the museum is also quite interesting. There is a really nice cafe there as well. It has upscale place settings at the tables and the food was really quite good. The waterfall is right there if you want to walk up to it.

Interesting history of collection gathered by one gentleman. Be sure to check out the elf "village" complete with a elf church up and to the right of the site. Buildings are quite fascinating and well furnished. Some additional information signs would be helpful but appreciate the challenge to upkeep the site without having to label everything!

This was a really cool museum with lots of artifacts from Iceland's history as well as historic houses, barns, a school and even an old church! It was fun to think about how people lived in Iceland hundreds of years ago. The Tech Museum was also really interesting with lots of the different types of vehicles that have been used over the years.

Museum has a little bit of everything for everyone with labels in multiple languages. The explanations offer interesting tidbits about everyday early life in Iceland. Allow about 2 hours to see all parts of the museum.

Beautiful and informative, the museum showcases the life of Icelanders of the past, including housing, inventory and food. There is a little group of houses built for the elves as well. Just lovely!

Bonjour,
Non, pour toutes les chutes d'eau à l'extérieur, vous ne devez pas réserver à l'avance. Il faut surtout assurer la réservation des hôtels.
Bien à vous !

LA MUSÉE DE PLEIN AIR EST PAYANT! It is a part of the museum and you need to buy a ticket to enter the museum site, but no reservation is required for individuals. Have a nice day!
