The museums are quite nice, and I needed a full three hours to make my way through and read many of the object labels. I don't think the young woman behind the counter could have been much pricklier if she'd tried. She provided next to no info, seemed disgusted that I dared to ask a few questions, and later told me after I'd read about public tours (not presented to me as an option) that the first tour had filled up. The other young woman I saw checking people in also seemed far too proud to be a Harvard student or Cambridge/Boston resident, and she was too grumpy to be in her role. One nice space was the café, as the employees there were more than cordial.

We were amazed how diverse is the collection. We especially liked the Pre Raphaelites, as we had not seen them elsewhere. There were also plenty of Masters and Impressionists, which are always beautiful.
To reach the Art collection, you need to walk through the University grounds to Quincy Street, which is at the back of the complex.

This museum was amazing. The size of the collection is smaller, but it packs a punch! Highly recommend. Wasn’t expecting to see A Hokusai Great Wave print, so that was cool.

First time to see the integrated art museums. Good exhibition spaces. Parts of the collection are extraordinary, i.e., Wertheim Collection.

What a great place! I went on a Sunday so it was free which made it even better. A nice mix of all types of art, the Masterpieces were magnificent. While it's three museums, you don't realize it, everything is in one building. I parked in the Oxford St. Garage and it was a short walk.

Muy buen museo, una sorpresa la tremenda colección de obras que tiene. Un museo pequeño pero muy bueno. Totalmente recomendable. Nada que envidiar a los museos famosos. Buenísimas obras.

A nice hour spent looking through the gallery. Free to anyone with a student ID or $20 for an adult it was a bargain on a cold winter day.

The most important thing to remember here is that it's all about quality and not quantity. The paintings in the collection are some of the pivotal works in entire periods of art history, including the great Sienese school and early masters such as Far Angelico,Tadeo and Bernardo Daddi, Martini Lorenzetti, and Botticelli: The signature blue Picasso Mother and Child, the opulent Renoir nude, the Toulouse Lautrec embittered cabaret drinker (actually a portrait of Suzanne Valadon) are just some examples, but there is muck more: A wooden, early Brancusi sculpture, amazing Cezzanes and Mattises an extraordinary Van Gogh portrait that was his personal gift to his close friend, Gauguin, who also has a masterpiece from his Tahiti period close by on the wall...Everyone is represented from that unique explosion of talent at the beginning of the 20th century in Paris.
Then there is a collection of Bernini plaster studies for is reason enough to make it a number one destination for art lovers.
Roman and Greek sculpture, the Islamic miniatures and carved jade daggers, also an extensive collection of Chinese, Japanese and Indian art that is a separate museum, or the famous American painting ,masterpieces like the Boylston family portraits
The Egyptian bronzes, Assyrian and Persian reliefs, or the great 19th century Symbolists the museum has three masterpieces by Gustave Moreau which includes one of his best versions of Salome, and there are Rossetti and Ingres masterpieces as well.

Would this be a good museum to bring a group of senior citizens?
Is there parking available for us to park our vans?

Thank you so much for your question.
The Harvard Art Museums are a wonderful destination for a group of senior citizens. The museums are accessible for visitors using wheelchairs and other mobility devices. We also offer our Visitor Guide in a large text format and have magnifying glasses available for use in the galleries.
The museums do not have any designated onsite parking. However, visitors arriving via paratransit van or similar are recommended to use the entrance on Broadway, which allows a right-side exit from the vehicle. Parking is available in the Broadway Garage, located at 5 Felton Street just one block from the museums. (Please note that the garage has a 6 ft. 8 in. height limit.) Parking permits can be purchased online at the Harvard Transportation website. Visitors without an assigned code can use “Visitor to Campus” as their department and 7700 as their department code in the online ordering system.
We do ask that groups make a reservation in advance by contacting us. Please note that we are unable to accept groups larger than 45 persons. Groups of 15 or larger must split up to tour the galleries. Additionally, while we do have a café, capacity is quite small and we are unable to take reservations for group dining. Feel free to call us with any other questions!
