‪Too Politically Correct‬
سبتمبر 2021
‪OK... Anything related to the South seems to be a "touchy topic" nowadays, but I will try and give my honest opinion as a Southern male whose great-great grandfather (non slave owning) fought for the Army of Northern Virginia (full disclosure here) There are pros and cons to this attraction.

Pros: The Swan house is beautiful and has a lot of period pieces inside. The Civil War Museum is excellent. The cyclorama is a beautiful painting.

Cons: Too politically correct for me. The movie at the cyclorama begins with one African American asking something to the effect of why would Atlanta glorify the southern army, and the second person replying that it was "to depict a great Union victory that saved the Union". We later hear that "the right side won" and are then shown a picture of the Stone Mountain carving while mentioning the "fictitious southern legacy." We hear nothing about army from a foreign country invading the newly formed Confederates States of America, burning a loot cities as they marched. For some reason, I thought tens of thousands of Georgians fought against the Union, that slavery was legal in the Union during the entirety of the war, the Union fought to "Preserve the Union", and that Abraham Lincoln stated that "If I could save the Union by not freeing any slave, I would do it..." Yes, slavery was terrible and needed to be abolish, but please stop rewriting history, and "cherry picking" the parts you wish to teach.

The display on the Olympics didn't impress me. I saw a writeup about each Olympics with a corresponding photo. Perhaps there was a bigger display about the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, but we decided not to walk through it all.

While the Swan House was beautiful, most of the upstairs was devoid of any period pieces. Instead, there was a huge display about the women's suffrage movement. Since the Swan house was built in 1928 ( nine years after the passage of the 19th amendment) and no mention was made as to how the owners of the house may have been connected to this movement, it seemed a rather odd place to put such a display (at least to me).

Glad I went, would probably give it 3.5 stars, if Trip Advisor would allow, but since it doesn't, decided to go with a three because it is so PC.‬

‪Allow 3-5 hours to see it all‬
سبتمبر 2021
‪If you are into the history of the American Civil War this museum is a must, they have a large number of artifacts from that time period.
Their exhibits do a really good job of telling a story through the order of events as well as the different interactive tools they have.
Allow at least 3 hours to see the museum, I recommend close to 4 hours actually. Its totally worth it!‬

‪Sad that they ever moved it...‬
أبريل 2021
‪I remember when we moved to Atlanta 32 years ago, C & S bank published an Atlanta Visitor's guide, and we used it for three decades. One of the most unique things to see in Atlanta was the Cyclorama, and it was always at the top of our list when we had out-of-town visitors.

Like some of the other reviewers, we were excited about the new home the Cyclorama was getting, and couldn't wait to take our first group of visitors.

I know a lot of money was spent by well-meaning people, but I left feeling saddened and disappointed. I know that ADA requirements, etc. must be included, but the lights from all of the signs really distracted. Seating has been replaced by a few benches for people that would rather look at other's behinds than the presentation.

Probably the most troubling, however, was the over-the-top PC flavor of everything.‬

‪Historic!‬
بمفردك • سبتمبر 2021
‪Surprisingly a much bigger museum then expected - very comprehensive from Civil War to modern day.

Well documented exhibits with easy to read descriptions.

I loved the Civil War history including the historic cyclorama, the story of the 1996 summer Olympics and the “Georgia Gentlemen” Bobby Jones section.

Great visit!‬

‪La Historia de Georgia‬
أغسطس 2021

‪Cyclorama worth the trip‬
العائلة • يوليو 2021
‪Enjoyed the Cyclorama and Civil war exhibits alone made it worth the trip here. The Swan house was pleasant. Olympics display was nice. There were a few other smaller exhibits but time was not unlimited. The Souper Jenny cafe and Bash coffee shop on the premises have excellent quality. The staff at both were great and food/coffee were excellent. Many locals come there for either the food/coffee or both.‬

‪One of the Best Museums I’ve Ever Visited!‬
زوجان • يوليو 2021
‪The Atlanta History Center is comprised of a museum, Cyclorama, historical Swan House and Smith Farm. The museum has various exhibits containing a large Civil War exhibit. This exhibit allowed me to understand the Civil War in a unique way…by the various artifacts shown…and the short films that were shown throughout the exhibit. The Cyclorama was an interesting part of the Atlanta History Center. One of only 2 in the country, it depicted the Battle of Atlanta in a very unique way. I would recommend this Center to anyone interested in the History of Atlanta!‬

‪The best civil war display‬
يوليو 2021
‪The cyclorama and civil war display were excellent. Very informative information. The rest of the museum was okay. We spent about two hours inside. The swan house is worth seeing as well. "gardens" are not that impressive. We spent 3 hours today. You CAN purchase tickets on site.‬

‪If You Want To Think About American History‬
يونيو 2021
‪This was highly underrated by the guidebooks, so I'm delighted to have gone there instead of to some other possible choices. We spent a couple of hours there before we even realized how late it had gotten. The Civil War exhibits we saw were not only interesting but they were challenging to us from several points of view. Rather than being examples of some simple "cancel culture" (whatever that means) we were allowed to understand the Civil War from the points of view of Southern White, Southern Black, and Northern points of view. Diverse political perspectives were represented-- none were entirely admirable, none were entirely contemptible. Brothers were fighting brothers; brothers were helping brothers; strangers were doing the same. It was a strange, terrible, and desperate time for everyone, and the displays-- especially the Cyclorama, which is a spectacular effort of two- and three-dimensional art demonstrating American history and emotion-- do a wonderful job of bringing that to our awareness.

Unfortunately, we had very little time to see any of the other exhibits on site. That was disappointing, but left us determined to return the next time we are in Atlanta. This is a very fine, thoughtful facility!‬
