I am a huge Muppets fan, so when I was in Atlanta for a weekend this caught my attention right away. The Jim Henson exhibit was incredible, but we were pleasantly surprised by the other permanent exhibit-- there were a lot of things we didn't necessarily realize were puppets, and it was a great learning experience for us. This would be great for kids, but all 3 of us adult women enjoyed it :)

There aren’t enough words to share how amazing this place was. We loved it. The Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer show was FABULOUS, and at the end, the puppeteers came out and taught the audience a few things about the puppets. We then did a wonderful craft that engaged the kids for a solid hour before touring their exhibits. The special holiday exhibition is literally worth going to Atlanta in December to see (they have two puppets from the actual Rankin and Bass “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” show, accompanied by plenty of great info) but their permanent collection was wonderful (pieces from the Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, Gumby, Child’s Play, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Pinocchio, and many many more. There were also puppets from all around the world and history). The interactive exhibits were incredibly fun (shadow puppets, marionettes, and a faux Henson studio with puppets you can use) and there were opportunities to pose for photos in Big Bird’s nest and other things. My son happens to be obsessed with puppets (Jim Henson is his idol - he’s 7) so we knew he would love it, but my 11 year old daughter said it was her favorite part of Atlanta, and me and my husband agreed. The staff was so warm and welcoming and helpful, and the exhibits were easy to maneuver. We took a Lyft there but there seemed to be plenty of parking, as well. HUGE recommend - absolutely loved it. As I live in NY, I wish they had a digital membership - I would join immediately to support such a fun, educational organization.

This is hands down the coolest museum I’ve ever seen! The artistry and attention to detail in the puppetry are absolutely incredible. Every aspect was so thoughtfully crafted, showcasing true craftsmanship. If you're a Jim Henson fan, this is a must-see when you're in Atlanta. The experience is one you won't want to miss!

Well done exhibits of puppets through time and cultures. Emphasis on Jim Henson and The Muppets. Loved seeing the evolution of the marionettes and the puppets.

A lot of stuff in one building! Puppets from many countries and many eras in history - different styles and types (some I'd never heard of before!) was interesting, but the best was the entire section of the building for the history of Jim Henson and his artistry through the years - before and after the muppets. Totally cool seeing favorite Sesame Street characters "up close and personal"!

This museum is small but mighty. The standing Jim Henson collection is a wonderful exhibition of his work. It was a total delight to see well-known and little known Muppets as well as treasures from his other film and television projects. You cannot put a price on the joy of “meeting” creations that meant so much to me in childhood. The museum is reasonably priced, easy to find (relatively close to the botanical gardens so that both can be seen in 1 day), and has a nice gift shop. There’s a scavenger hunt for the kids and some interactive pieces sprinkled throughout. In addition to the Henson collection, there are examples of puppetry around the world (including other US creations like Gumby, the Corpse Bride, and Chuckie from Child’s Play). The temporary Fraggle Rock exhibition was awesome and included with admission. The Sesame Street Musical playing now is extra but delightful. I’m a Henson aficionado and will always want more when it comes to museums and exhibits, but getting up close & personal is simply amazing.

Great little museum. Total gem. Not crowded, scavenger hunt for the kids, tons of Muppets. Small, but truly enjoyable and a unique experience.

This is a small place. It's cute, but you do not need a lot of time here. The price is "ok." $ 16 for adults and $ 12 for kids up to the age of 12. Wish it could be cheaper or they offered a AAA discount (they do not). They currently had a Jim Henson area and it was interesting to see all of his work. It is in one large room that is divided into sections. Also in the same room is an area of puppetry from around the world and various displays of how things progressed from early times to now. It was cool but quick as the kids don't read every little sign. They had one very small other room that took just a few minutes to see. We were here maybe an hour. They have a cute playground outside too but my kids are getting too old for that (12 and 9). Nice little visit, wish there was a little more to do or see for the price.

If you're a Jim Henson fan or grew up with Sesame Street/the Muppets, this is a really cool place to visit. There are two different sections in the museum; a Global Gallery and the Jim Henson Gallery. The Global Gallery talks about the history of puppetry around the world, and it's really cool to see how other cultures use the art in different ways. They have several videos playing of performances and history talk.
The Jim Henson part is what really makes this museum stand out. You get a history of Jim Henson's life and how he got involved with puppetry, and then you go into his early career doing commercials and shorts, then into Sesame Street, the Muppets, and other things like Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and Fraggle Rock. Lots of cool information about how the production process of the Muppets work, and of course you get to see the actually muppet props.
The museum isn't terribly big (we spent about two hours in both galleries combined), and some may think it's a little pricey ($16.00 admission), but I'd say your money is going to a good cause if you choose to visit. Highly recommended for Jim Henson fans.

A cute little museum, it’s a stretch to say you need 2 hours to see everything. I chose to go through the world history section first. It offered a variety of puppets from Vietnamese water puppets, to shadow, to authentic Punch and Judy dolls. Some more modern dolls included Chucky and Gumby. Across the hall is the Jim Henson display, and it is DELIGHTFUL. It travels through his home life, into Sesame Street, onto the Muppet show, and out through displays on Fraggle Rock, the Dark Crystal, and the Labrynth. I really enjoyed seeing Bert and Ernie, Rolfe and Sprocket, and many other childhood friends up close and in real life. While I wish there was a bit more for the 16$, they do a lot with the space they have.

How long is the create-a-puppet workshop?
كُتب بتاريخ 15 يونيو 2019
It doesn't take much time at all, maybe 15 minutes. I just took the materials to make the puppet later. The materials are for a simple, paper puppet, but the kids enjoyed making them.
كُتب بتاريخ 15 يونيو 2019
This totally depends on you, and your group. We had two toddlers, and I think we spent about 1.5 hours. They have short attention spans, and we did not take in the show, which is wonderful, but an extra fee, and better for older children. If your group has kids especially interested in Muppets, or in puppetry in general, you could spend a few hours.

Depends on the event it's a set price for the museam, see the website but you get in free with the purchase of a ticket to a puppet show. And you can sometimes find deals on those.

Cuánto tiempo dura la visita al museo con los shows incluidos?
كُتب بتاريخ 8 أغسطس 2017
The tour length depends on how much or how little you want to see or do. If you are really interested in how puppetry began or is enjoyed around the world then you will want to take longer and read all of the information and look closely at the items displayed. If you would just like to see puppets from around the world and only get a little information then you can just walk around and look and you could finish that side in 20-30 minutes but if you take the time to read it all it could take over an hour. For the Jim Henson side - if you read about everything and do some of the hands on things you could spend over an hour just enjoying everything there but you could walk thru just looking at them in 20 mins ---- I would say between one to three hours depending on your interest.

Do you have to purchase tickets in advance for the museum or can you get them when you go to the museum that day?
كُتب بتاريخ 5 أبريل 2017
no just walk up to the window inside the door. you can save a couple of dollars purchasing thru their website but it is not necessary and not refundable. make sure to visit all three big rooms. I would not have known about the third, if my step son had not researched it before we went. one ticket gets you everywhere in on building. no extra charges in less you make a gift shop purchase.

Is the airport fairly close to the museum? What airport would it be? Can you get by using a taxi or an Uber?
كُتب بتاريخ 9 أكتوبر 2016
Getting from the Atlanta airport to Puppetry is very easy. MARTA train departs from the Airport. Take the train to MIDTOWN STATION. You can walk fifteen minutes to the Puppetry from MIDTOWN STATION or call UBER for a few dollars.

Do you have wheelchairs? My husband has a herniated disc and a torn disc and can't walk right now, but wants to joins us.

My daughter is 6 and is terrified of the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth... which were basically the only reasons my son and I went. She stayed home with mom. Realize how small the museum was, and how even smaller the Labyrinth exhibit was, I kind of wish I stayed home too... but, we got Gelatto afterwards which was amazing :)
