Nice Romanesque cathedral very well kept and like most of these types of churches pretty hefty pay to walk around for 10 minutes

Began in 1129, it was finished in 1273. The formal name is Cathedral of Santa Maria de Lugo and has all the bells and whistles of a Medieval church. Lugo is a city that was founded by the Romans.
The interior has the vaulting expected in a Medieval church and there are so very many chapels and a wealth of things to see. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time to fully appreciate the cathedral's beauty.
Just as a heads-up: the tourist must leave the church when the services begin. We were here on a Thursday, had paid our fee (5.50 EU each, reduced rate) and maybe got to see the church for all of 15 minutes before being ushered out. Although we were told we could return when the service was over, our tour would be leaving long before then.
The church is a expensive monument to maintain and the small fee charged for admission does help to pay the bills.

La entrada cuesta 6€, incluye la visita al interior de la catedral como al museo que queda en la planta superior. La catedral es hermosa, pero destacaría la Capilla de la Virgen de los Ojos Grandes, patrona de la ciudad. Tanto la Virgen como su retablo son hipnóticos.
Del museo a destacar el Crismón de Quiroga, pieza de mármol que data entre los años 420 a 450 d. C.
Una catedral preciosa tanto por fuera como por dentro.

La catedral es preciosa, quizás por fuera puede parecer normalita pero por dentro es muy grande y bonita. Es de las catedrales más bonitas que he visto en España.

Que realicen la visita por la nubes, es decir, la completa. Hemos tenido una guía de lujo, Eva. Ha hecho la visita muy amena, interesante y con muchas anécdotas. Se nota que vive y sabe de lo que habla.

Another surprisingly great cathedral in a city of just under 100,000 people
I really liked this cathedral. It was absolutely lovely. It had all the elements of a great cathedral - excellent and interesting design, excellent stained glass windows, a great painted ceiling in the chapel, a fine altar, fine choir and more. Just look at the pictures on Google and the cathedral’s website. There are two reasons you should definitely visit Lugo - this cathedral and to walk the wall, which is conveniently entered right through the back of the cathedral.
Here is a fabulous 2nd, 3rd, or 4th trip to Spain. Rent a car from the airport in Madrid. Drive in succession to:
- El Pardo palace – vastly underrated – I don’t think most Spaniards, or even people from Madrid come here, but they should – extremely pretty palace with more tapestries than you will see anywhere. Also, incredibly tasteful and beautiful, large chandeliers. Just fantastic. We first went on the guided tour, unfortunately we did not speak Spanish and then we went back in to see it a second time where you could visit on your own. We rarely do that on the same trip, but this time we felt it warranted it.
- El Escorial Monastery/Palace – great, look for room where king overlooks church & library.
- RioFrio Palace – not at the top of the list. At first, you say why did I come, but it grabs you the longer you are on it. It ends with a neat natural history museum with dioramas of wild animals.
- La Granja de San Ildefonso Palace and Gardens/Park – perhaps the best garden/park combo I have seen with lots of elaborate fountains. Whoops, perhaps second best – see Linderhof Palace in Germany with it’s endless tiers going up the side of a hill. Spectacular. It’s actually the best Mad Ludwig Bavarian castle, if you ask me.
- Segovia – Alcazar – like a story book fortress & Cathedral - huge
- Burgos – Cathedral – all we saw and we did not even saw all of it, but it is great
- Leon – Cathedral – mucho stained glass, Gaudi’s Casa Botines – if you are a Gaudi fan and who isn’t, it’s a must, Palacio de los Guzmanes, Real Colegiata Basilica of San Isidoro 10-14 & 17-20 Get a ticket from hotel with Panteon Real(Pantheon of the Kings of León) known as THE SISTINE CHAPEL OF ROMANESQUE ART, and for great ice cream and hot chocolate – Valor
- Astorga - Episcopal/Bishops Palacio Gaudi – another Gaudi treasure – the Chapel is pure , Salamancbliss & Cathedral – for a town of only 11K, pretty damn impressive
- Ponferrada – looks like a very modern city with an ancient, very large and very good Castillo de los Templarios – great walk along the walls – it’s a must
- Santiago de Compostela – Cathedral, of course, but I found the museum there far more impressive. - that’s all we did.
How you go back is up to you. You could try going down Portugal, seeing places until you reach Lisbon and then go east back to Lisbon. Your trip needs to be at least 4 weeks for that, though. Or you could do a more direct route – Ourense, Zamora, Salamanca, Avila and back to the airport which would only add 7 hours driving time back. This probably makes the most sense. Adding this to the first part of the trip described could be done in 2 weeks.

Muy interesante la visita completa con audioguía. Advierto de la posibilidad de bodas en el interior de la catedral, por lo que en ocasiones no puedes disfrutar de la visita plenamente

Pequeña catedral, muy similar a la de Santiago de Compostela, con un museo muy interesante con varias piezas muy interesantes, personal super amable y precio normal

A catedral de Santa Maria foi fundada em 1129, de origem românico.
O palácio ao lado é o Palácio Episcopal, barroco do século XVIII.
Creio que o bispo deve morar lá.
