Our family enjoyed a marvellous day on the slopes here for the final day of March Break Week. Staff was friendly and very helpful ( thanks Tess ) in getting us started and advising best runs for grandparents and our young grandchildren to ski together! We had a great lunch in the lunchroom and enjoyed hot chocolate on the benches by the fire as well.
We hope to return next season.

We bought our ski lift tickets on line to avoid potential line ups but could not reserve rental equipment. We thought that was strange but off we went. We get there and wait over an hour in a not covid friendly line up that was so unorganized, only to find out that they were out of rentals! The girl at the counter gave me an email to inquire about a refund. 3 emails, numerous phone calls and a complaint made through Better Business Bureau and not a single reply-not even to BBB. Does anyone even answer the phone that is on the website?? We will never ever go back to Calabogie. We are spreading word of our experience to anyone who will listen. Reading other review websites we noticed that many other people have had the same experience.

Awesome conditions for spring skiing in +15C temps. No lift lines. Ski on none stop to chair lift. Staff extremely friendly. As were locals. Lots of picnic tables outside for lunch and breaks. Washrooms clean. Great value for cost of ticket. Would have been nice to have Lakeview Quad running to get to the top. However completely understand economics of not having it run.

I recently hiked at Calabogie Peaks and also enjoyed the Fall Colours Chairlift Tour.
What an amazing experience!
There was a BBQ and firepit to warm up after coming back down the mountain, so that was a great touch on a chilly autumn day.
The staff we encountered were all very friendly, polite and helpful.
I will definitely go back.

Less than an hour drive from Ottawa, in the Township of Greater Madawaska, close to the shores of Calabogie Lake and against a backdrop of Manitou Mountain Trails lays Calabogie Peaks Resort. It is a gateway to a diverse network of trails leading to nine panoramic mountain-top vistas. In summer time enjoy a day at the beach, water sports, golf or hiking through pine forests and wilderness scenery. In winter the Peaks turns into ski mountain resort featuring two quad lifts to Dickson Mountain nearby, an outdoor pond for skating, snowshoeing and cross country skiing trails. Thanks to its broad accommodation base and culinary options the Resort is an excellent choice to delight in seasonal activities as much as to host special events, such as weddings, family reunions and business meetings.

Spent a night at this hotel last weekend. We stayed at a 2 bedroom suite. Rooms are great and the view is beautiful, however, customer service is so bad that the whole experience was ruined. I tried reaching the property several times before our arrival, but my message and voice mail were never returned. Check-in was fine, but the next day housekeeping entered our room at 9:30 without knocking, before we checked out. Many amenities were closed due to COVID-19 (as expected), but we had to pay the full price for those amenities (not expected). There was a storm overnight and the hotel lost electricity and water. Front desk staff informed me that there is nothing they can do about water and electricity, because it's "mother nature" (they repeated this several times, it was almost comical). I wrote an e-mail to the manager (Jason Newman) to suggest that in situations like these they could provide their customers with drinking water, water to flush the toilet (there is a pond and a lake at the property), flashlight to navigate the room, discount for the stay or voucher toward future stay, etc. I never got reply from the manager

Nice ski hills, too bad the lifts were so slow. This caused us to spend 12 minutes going up for just over a minute of skiing. Not enjoyable.

I normally ski a smaller hill nearby (Mount Pakenham) but decided to try out Calabogie. I'm comfortable on most terrain but I found Calabogie to be challenging because the grade of some trails switches very suddenly without warning. A number of times I was on a blue trail(even once on a green trail) and there were parts of the trails that were definitely black ratings. For example the bottom part of Shantyman should probably be rated as blue or black (it's way too steep for a beginner). Bailey's and Causeway (both blue) blend into Finnegan rather seemlessly and without obvious signs, so if you're new to the hill you could easily end up on a black run without realizing it (that's what I did). Even the Old K&P had many sections that I definitely do not consider to be beginner friendly. Fortunately, as mentioned, I'm comfortable with all types of terrain so it wasn't a problem for me, but I can see from the other reviews and also from the number of people being carried off in sleds (about 2 in 2hrs) that the signage/trail classification leads to dangerous situations. These steep sections just kind of sneak up on you, which is hard for a beginner to handle. For these reasons, I would not recommend this resort for beginners, and if it weren't for this I would have rated my overall rating higher.
With that being said, the signage for specific features was great. There were some moguls, terrain park features, the snowcross park, etc that were very clearly marked with "expert only". ...It's just the steepness of the normal slopes that is poorly signed. It also would have been nice if the type of terrain was noted in the map. For example, Buckshot had signage at the top of it saying that it was thin coverage and ungroomed, but it said nothing about this on the trail maps.
Speaking of trail maps, there are non posted on the mountain themselves. I had one of those handy maps that they give out at the ticket booth, but sometimes it's nice to look at a map at the top or bottom of the hill instead of fishing around in your pocket for your map.
Also as mentioned by other reviews, the website said that all trails were open but because only 1 lift was open (during the week), effectively you cannot get to some of the trails. This is false advertising. I'm also not sure why they would run solar quad instead of lakeview, since lakeview seems to cover 100% of the trails and solar quad leaves out a few.
Grooming was not great compared to Pakenham. I was surprised to see some bare patches on the mountain (and I'm not talking about the intentionally ungroomed rock cuts). The same day that I skiied Calabogie I also went to Pakenham for night ski and the Pakenham snow was way better.
The roof in the chalet was leaking and it looks like a lot of the resort is in various stages of disrepair. Hopefully some money gets invested into fixing things up before the place completely falls apart.
No comments on the hotel or apres-ski because I was only there for the day.
Overall, I had a pretty good experience. Very friendly staff. Resort (parking, lift tickets, food, etc) is easy to navigate. Short/no lines during the week. Cute little cafeteria. Well laid-out design. Just make sure you're on your toes with the runs since they really aren't adequately marked.

Got to the ski hill to find out that a bunch of the intermediate and expert runs that we like were closed because of kids ski racing. The website didn't reflect this, it showed that all runs were open. The events tab also made no mention. The lift ticket sales person didn't say anything to us about how many runs were closed either. They have a no refunds policy of course, so we were stuck. Obviously they didn't post any warnings on their site so as to not lose money. What a rip off, paid full price to ski half the runs.

I'm considering taking my wife and 3 kids (10, 8, 5) to Calabogie Peaks for a summer getaway but I'm having a hard time figuring out if there is enough stuff to get my kids busy for a few days. What kinds of things are there for young kids?
In addition to the onsite activities we host here at The Peaks (hiking, fishing, swimming, beachfront, tennis, paddleboat rentals, golf), there are also numerous family friendly activities in the Ontario Highlands. You can learn more from our website from the In The Neighbourhood page.

Does the skiing compare at all to Blue Mountain. I am getting a little bored of it.

Yes, the skiing does compare ... the verticals are similar. There are some good intermediate runs at Calabogie and a little expert terrain; however, the best justification for Calabogie over Blue Mountain is the lifetime saved NOT waiting in lift lines at Calabogie. If you have more than a 45 sec lift line, that's long at Calabogie. Most times, even on weekends, you basically ski onto the lift. It's in the middle of nowhere and a longer drive from the GTA and that's a good thing. A bad part is their cafeteria is horrible. Expensive too. Avert this downside by saving money and deep fried cholesterol by bringing your own food to the lodge or go back to your mountainside condo rental for lunch.
