This is a great sports Hall of Fame. It's always fun to see and learn about all the various athletes and their accomplishments. The admittance fee isn't a lot and there is free parking. There are also many interactive attractions.

Good visit. Nice town. Visit the outside flea market and Indian mounds. Suggest to have cash for market. Expect to be there a while. Great finds. Comfy clothes and shoes for the mounds is a must.

Great museum featuring all different sports and athletes who have a connection to Georgia. We learned a lot and enjoyed the exhibits.

No state has a sports hall of fame to compare to Georgia. It took some time to evolve but today the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon is the largest state sports hall of fame in the United States at 43,000 square feet. Located at 301 Cherry Street, the building that houses the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame was built to resemble a turn-of-the-century ballpark with red-brick exterior, green roof, old-style ticket booths, brick columns in the rotunda and special lighting. Opened in 1999, it was created to put visitors into the heart of a sports experience. Over 1,000 artifacts are on display, over 7,000 objects are included in the Hall of Fame collection and over 450 people have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. See the Great Moments in Georgia Sports History. Participate in interactive exhibits such as NASCAR simulators, football and basketball games and computer programs. It all began in 1956 when the Hall of Fame portion of the museum was created as the Georgia Prep Sports Hall of Fame. In 1963, it was expanded to include high school, college, amateur and professional sports. After the Georgia State Legislature appropriated $8.3 million to construct the current museum, it was opened in 1999. The building also houses a 1,500-square-foot Georgia Room for rentals and receptions, a gift shop, a 205-seat theater, a research center, staff offices and storage space. It's fun to browse through the museum and acknowledge some of the legendary sports figures who are enshrined in the Hall of Fame, including Hank Aaron, Ty Cobb, Bobby Jones, Jackie Robinson, Herschel Walker, Charley Trippi, Frank Sinkwich, Dominique Wilkins, Johnny Mize, John Smoltz, Fran Tarkenton, Frank Thomas, Chipper Jones, Luke Appling, Phil Niekro, Edwin Moses, Walt Frazier, Bobby Dodd, Bobby Cox, Evander Holyfield and Furman Bisher. An interesting note: Race car driver Bill Elliott is a Hall of Famer. And his race car is displayed on the second floor of the museum.

With kids, I didn’t get to read everything. The displays were great and you still got the idea without having to read everything. My kids favorite part was the interactive part where you got to play different sports. Overall, very enjoyable and worth the cost.

Lots to like. The hall is on one floor in which they provide simple names on the wall but very full exhibits for the current inductees and a few from the past. Very classy. The upstairs is very big and spacious and gives do attention to both high school and college as well as pro and Olympic history. Captions are short enough to read but long enough to inform you. Some nice parts were you can throw a football and shoot a basketball which give you a break in the middle of the walk. Interspacing artwork is a nice touch as well. Building is beautiful and spacious. I was amused by their use of (sic) in reference to a Canadian spelling, which implies it was wrong. I was given free admission because it was the day before the induction and the staff were busy setting stuff up but it did not affect my visit so it was a nice touch that made me feel good.

We visited the Hall of Fame while staying in Macon on a Saturday morning. Easy to fine and ample free parking right outside. Good number of excellent memorabilia from many sports based on Georgia born/based sports people. Also liked the interactive basketball area and NASCAR exhibit. Definetly worth a visit if you are in Macon.

We evacuated from Hurricane Florence to the Macon, GA area. We never let an evacuation go to waste and try to do as much sightseeing as possible.
A wrong turn into town led us to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. The UGA Bulldogs were playing in Athens that day and we went in to ask about the score. Imagine our surprise when the friendly guys at the ticket booth told us entrance was free to all because of the hurricane. Talk about scoring!
We were so grateful for the air conditioned building and set off to explore. There was lots of activity in the complex; we watched a toddler birthday party and lots of kids playing on the second level in various interactive activities. It is a great place for kiddos to burn off steam.
We were at UGA when Herschel Walker was in school and were happy to see his display and watch some of his videos. Many player videos are available to watch. As Steeler's fans, we also were happy to see Hines Ward's helmet and his display. The displays are numerous and detailed. You could spend hours reading about the legacy of many Georgia sports stars.
No matter the sport, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame has something for everyone. One of the most striking displays is the statue of Nike and the story of this particular statue. We learned that the name 'Nike' was chosen over 'Destination 6' as the name of the shoe.
The building also has a theater which plays programs on a timed schedule. Ample restroom facilities and a great gift shop are available. The Tubman Museum is across the street. 2-hour parking is available in the island between the HOF and the Tubman Museum on Cherry St. Don't forget to take the short walk at the end of the street to see the former Georgia Terminal. Great sightseeing in a concentrated area.
