Just did the night tour tram. Poor crowd control, crammed onto a bus, wedged in like sardines in 95 degree heat even after sun went down. Couldn’t sit together with my family, seats were small, most passengers on the tram were taking up half of the seat next to them. Was hoping for sunsets and dusk canyon viewing, instead it was completely dark for tram ride so nothing to see. I have been to beautiful Sabino canyon many times. This is NOT the way to do it! Waste of $60

Omg was absolutely gorgeous and the driver was outstanding!!! He was born to do this job!! He was absolutely entertaining funny and just amazing! Don't ever let him go! Everyone was so happy!!! His name is Alex Saucedo! Don't ever let him go!!! We will be back! His personality is made for this job!! Ty for having him!

I flew in to Tucson for work and booked the tram so I could enjoy some nature despite the heat. It turned into a private tour and Alex, my guide, was incredible! He told me all about the canyon and became a quick friend. I would absolutely go back! The views were beautiful!!

Lots of trails! There is running water in the canyon. Bathrooms and nature area at the parking. It’s a desert landscape so plan accordingly. You can do easy walking and running on the road or you can do more challenging terrain.

Our family of 8 took the shuttle ride up and down the hike and loved it. Steph was awesome and accommodated my grandfather who needed wheelchair accessibility. She was knowledgeable, funny, and overall wonderful. Thank you Steph! My grandparents were able to see the mountains and nature that Tucson has to offer because of this shuttle system. Highly recommend!

Great adventure, very good trail, take the bus to the highest and walk down the paved trail, cactus, snakes, flowers were great in ealy May!

Beautiful desert hike. Saw a roadrunner, rattlesnake and beautiful desert cactus. Go early and bring a hat and sunscreen. There are trams, but we did not take them.

If I lived in Tucson I’d be a regular on the Tram crawler and I’d be prepared to get off to enjoy the stops.

We went on the 8:30 a.m. (first) trolley of the day. It was totally full and took about half an hour to get to the top stop (#9). A lot of people were getting off to hike there, and we avoided those crowds by taking a very short hike (1/2 mile out-and-back) down to the creek. It was a little confusing coming back-up, so pay attention to the route. It starts just uphill of the trolley stop and there's a sign pointing down and to the left. There's a much longer hike upward which we didn't do.
Once we did the little hike, all of the other people were gone, and we were able to walk the road back to the bottom with only a handful of people ever in view. Given how early it was, there was actually some shade along the route. There are multiple bathrooms and water stations along the way, though some were closed - don't count on all of them being available.
At one point, we needed to remove our shoes to walk across a bridge that was under about 3 inches of water - very refreshing! This was April 12th, 2023. The flowers and cacti were amazing!

We took the tram to the top and walked down. Views were stunning. We had 2 small children and they did great. Stopped to eat snacks we packed. Lots of picnic tables and restrooms. Only authorized transportation allowed so walking on the road is safe and easy. Highly recommend it! Take lots of water and use sunscreen or cover up- it gets hot early! We plan to visit next time we are in the area and do the hike at the top to the lake).

can I reserve in advance and pay in advance?

If you have the America the Beautiful pass (Annual, Senior, Military, etc) you do not have to pay. Just display it on your windshield or dashboard. Otherwise, drive up to the booth and pay the $8 for a day pass. You cannot reserve parking.
If you plan to take the Sabino Canyon Crawler (aka the shuttle), I highly recommend you buy the tickets in advance so you get the time slot you want. The Crawler leaves promptly on the hour, and will not wait for latecomers. Make sure you allow plenty of time for parking. It is very busy this time of year, especially on weekends.
Can you buy a ticket at the ticket counter upon arrival?

If there is no one in the booth at the entrance, there are several options by the curb in front of the Visitor Center:
1. Pay with cash in the red payment envelopes; put the tear-off on your dashboard.
2. Use your phone to scan the QR code to pay and register electronically. You'll need your license plate number for this. No receipt needed.
3. Pay with a credit card at the machine. Put the receipt on the dashboard.
4. Buy a pass inside the VC.

What is the best trail for a solo senior female hiker who is reasonably fit?

There are many trails and loops to choose from. Ask a volunteer in front of the Visitor Center for advice, especially if there are any temporary trail closures in effect.
Why can’t I get directions to Sabino Canyon from our location at E. Speedway and Alvernon Rd?

I just saw the sabino canyon visitor center is closed on Tuesday. Does the tram still work and can we park and hike? Ty

The tram still operates Tuesdays. Visit the sabino canyon crawler website (it won't let me post the link) and if you select sabino canyon tour / bear canyon, select the number of tickets, then it'll bring you to a calendar of availability with live updates on seating. The website also has all the info on COVID precautions. Or you can park and hike (even on Tuesdays).
