While in Friday Harbor, WA, I visited the Stuart Island State Park. The park facilities are currently closed until May 20th. Though the party needed some TLC, it was beautiful and the scenery was awesome. There is a beautiful lighthouse as well. Whales, Seals and other animals migrate to this area every year, however I did not see any during the time I was there.

I always go here with my friends they boat out on their yacht and set out their dingey to pick me up we go here and they have a cabin and a plane we go swimming alllll day

We spent two nights at a camp site on this beautiful island. It is worth the time to explore and hike out to some of the unique buildings on the island, as well as Turn Point. Simply beautiful island and views.

We joined a sailing rally from Point Roberts. We rafted up to 4 deep on the centre island docks. We had a great time. They were all so welcoming. The ranger came out to say well done. Everyone had paid up for their dock charges. He didn't have to collect from anyone. All paid. Wonderful walk / hike out to Turn Point. I did a 10.2 km walk on reasonable gravel road. Up and down a bit but soooo well worth it.
It took me 4 hours round trip including about an hour for the lighthouse tour.

I bought a hat from the local store that sells stuff on the IOU basis.
You can pay on line later when you get home with an internet link.
The Kayakers in the park were friendly and full of Awe for our wonderful Pacific North West.

Stuart Island is being loved to death. Not a single day goes by in the summer months now when the harbors aren't overflowing with boaters and the yachts keep getting bigger. The water is being fouled by too much traffic and irresponsible weekend amateurs. The campgrounds are filled with rowdy kayak trips who don't seem to understand that there is no fire department on remote islands. No one seems to respect the tranquility of the place. My partner and I used to love coming up here but things have changed for the worse. If your looking for some peaceful solitude go elsewhere.

Recently, we visited Reid Harbor at Stuart Island. We were successful crabbing, we hiked to the Turn Point Light--a great hike, and we were able to relax in our boat. We do it every time we come! We did not see any whales while we were at the light, but they had been by a couple of days prior to our arrival. The volunteer docents that were hosting while we were there were friendly and answered all our questions. Reid Harbor is a neat spot--great for kayaking too!

My husband and I moor our boat in Reid Harbour for a few weekends every summer and will ever travel over and just have a bbq on the boat for an evening; it is absolutely one of our favourites! We live in Victoria, BC so it’s only about a 25 minute boat ride from Sidney. We love how remote it feels as there are no ferries that go to this beautiful island.

I think our 3-day/2-night stay on Stuart Island was the perfect sample of the Pacific Northwest and the San Juans. Crystal Seas guided our family out and back from Friday Harbor, and helped us enjoy the surroundings.

We came by kayak (Crystal Seas) and stayed 2 nights. Beautiful campground, clean. Hike up the hill to the school museum highl recommended.

Boated in to Prevost Harbor to camp, but do not have a dinghy. No place to tie up due to yachts taking over the dock. No one would raft. Yachts could have easily anchored and come in by dinghy as every one had one. Docked in the ranger spot to offload our gear and was criticized by yacht owners. Set up camp and large kayak groups come in with too many people (there's a 6 person limit/campsite, most groups had 12). Composting toilet was overwhelmed. The kayak groups were loud, infringed on our site with hammocks and a tent. Wine tasting tours - the more they drank, the louder they got. The teen groups were yelling and screaming and running around. The hike to the school and lighthouse were awesome. The park is beautifully maintained and the ranger tried to be helpful. Too bad all that beauty was overshadowed by too many inconsiderate people. We won't go back in season.
