This place was easily found from the museums. The Springfield museums. It’s Not too far. It was a close stop from our hotel.

A fantastic collection of American arms and some of the tools used to construct them.
This museum is a must for anyone with an interest in American military history. For two centuries, Springfield Armory made the weapons that America’s armies carried to war- from the frontier of the early Republic to the fields of Vietnam.
They are all on display.
There are videos of how they were made.
The rangers will show you how they evolved.
Very interesting, and worth a visit.

If I follow your instructions you arrive at a technical college on the right. You have to drive to the back of the college grounds to reach the museum. It is small but informative about gum making from the revolutionary war to 1964.

I came on a city bus, and the path to the historic site wasn't very well marked. the actual historic site is buried on the campus of a community college (much of which is located in historic buildings), and the signage is much more geared to the college than to the park service.
Once I finally found the visitors center, it was very interesting. They trace the history of this particular facility (created by George Washington to supply weapons for the U.S. armed forces) and also show how the industrial revolution changed the manufacture of firearms. I had sort of come here on a whim, but I was very glad I came.

Very Historical Place and interesting Museum. I enjoyed the Armory very much and I am only marginally interested in Guns. This is absolutely a Must Stop far a true Gun Enthusiast. There is no charge for Parking or entry.

I stopped by Springfield Armory NHS on my way through the area. I learned so much about weapons history and America’s role in weapons development and manufacturing. The video was excellent and very informative. Some of the machinery is actually powered and can be turned on with a button to see how some of the machines worked. The collection of antique weapons is impressive with weapons from the earliest arequebuses to the modern issue US military firearms. I spent about an hour at the museum total. I enjoyed my visit very much and highly recommend stopping by!

Small, but interesting. It's worth stopping if you are in the area. One of the rangers, Ranger Steele, went out of his way to answer our questions and made the visit fun for our children. We learned a lot and are glad we took the time to go.

The Springfield Armory is where guns for the military were made for 150 years beginning shortly after America was founded. There's little left of the actual Armory other than the very large factory building and a handful of outbuildings that can only be viewed, not entered. The Armory building itself houses a museum on the history of gun production, focusing on the Springfield rifles. It has an impressive collection of Springfield and other pistols and rifles, the "Springfield Organ" group of rifles resembling an organ, and some of the machinery that was developed to mass-produce rifles.
There are some very good short films that explain the manufacturing process and the technological improvements in rifles over time. The whole museum and and Armory site can be visited in a few hours.

We really enjoyed our visit to the armory. Surprised at the history associated with how America manufactured its firearms for ~170 years and technological advancements of the Armory. The Park staff were friendly and informative.

We stopped by The National Armory as a road trip break, and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised! Watch the movie (across from the gift area) prior to checking out the exhibits and it will be more meaningful. I had walked through the exhibits first and quite honestly, I kind of rushed through the machinery section as I had no clue what any of the machinery was. But after watching the short movie, I went through again, and am glad I did.
The staff couldn’t have been nicer and are very well informed. The exhibits are spaced well apart, so no feeling of being crowded. Very interesting for any history buffs!

How much time should be allowed for the visit? We will be visiting the Basketball Hall of Fame and would like to see if a day trip to Springfield would allow for both visits.

Easily done. I am a reader, saw the movies, and was still done in 4. They run tours that point out certain highlights - catch one of those and walk around and you could finish up in two!

About what time is needed for a full visit that would include reading, viewing & photography?

Good morning!
Do you have a representative on site that would be able to look at a historical sword that I have?

The only staff I saw were Parks Service employees.
