Work is ongoing at the house. If you call the number listed, you can make an appointment to view the house. My voice mail was quickly returned.

We wore masks, our guide wore a mask, and so with social distancing we felt safe during this uneasy time of Covid-19. The house has a wonderful history that was fascinating to listen to, and the decorations, furnishings, and collections were amazing. We enjoyed the tour, and highly recommend it.

The woman who gave the tour is the daughter of the gentleman who had owned the house until he passed away three weeks ago. She had his notes from when he gave the tours which was full of interesting information. The story of Anna that put a hat pin in her hat but scraped her head and died 10 days later from the dye in the hat was fascinating. Do make sure to have her show you the commode furniture. Strong women in the history of this house. Well worth the money.

Built in 1830, this Greek Revival house was built by Martha Vick, the unmarried daughter of Newit Vick, the founder of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Vick and his wife died of yellow fever in 1819, leaving Martha to help raise her eight siblings. Located at 1300 Grove Street, at the intersection of Grove and Farmer Street, it is a regionally significant expression of Greek Revival architecture, a side-gabled brick cottage with Italianate bracketed cornice, brick pilaster, five-bay facade, flat brick arches, black chimneys with molded caps. The interior exhibits a regionally typical floor plan that features an entrance hallway and plaster ceiling centerpieces that rank among the finest in Vicksburg. The house includes all original millwork and much original hardware. It is listed among "The Great Houses of Mississippi" and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Jolie demeure qui a tout une histoire, nous n'avons pu voir que l'extérieur car c’était fermé. Nous avons cependant apprécié de voir une belle maison qui représente un symbole de cette ville de Vicksburg.

This is a great house you do not want to miss. Have you been visiting a lot of homes and this one appears to be closed? You need to call 601-831-7007 and make an appointment to see the home. The tour is given by the owner Mr. Longfellow who purchased the house in 1983 and has restored it beautifully. Yes, he lives there at the residence. His knowledge of the home and love for the family and city's history really shows. You can get up close to the furniture and items in the house. The way this tour is given it makes you feel welcomed. Add this home to your list of places to visit.

If you like to tour historic homes, don't miss the Martha Vick house, built in 1830 by the daughter of the founder of Vicksburg. Bill Longfellow has owned the house since the early 80's, and has done extensive restoration. He gives an entertaining and informative tour of the house and its furnishings. There are also interesting pictures of the restoration. Tours are by appointment only.

Do call ahead. The owner may be at a wedding. If you just show up and ring the bell, you may very well not be in luck. During a loving restoration many of the home's original pieces were returned to the walls; they belonged no where else, truly.
Stunning collection of French oils. Owner guided; depth.
