‪Great small art museum‬

‪It's a very clean and accessible museum. It's not a stuffy old house like some other small museums I've been to in the past. The focus of the museum is on paintings and the architecture of the mansion.

The featured special exhibits were "The Boat Trip", a series of fantastic miniature etchings by Charles Francois Daubigny, and an exhibit of women photographers, which included many of the legendary photographers such as Berenice Abbot and Immogen Cunningham.

It was definitely a worthwhile visit.‬

‪Great surprise lunch‬

‪The lunch at the small cafe was delicious. Short menu but good food
Went on a Sunday in the summer it was comfortable and nice small art museum that had a great special exhibit It wasn't overcrowded Nice renovation I would recommend it for history buffs and art lovers‬

‪Nice Museum with small cafe.‬

‪We stopped here and had a light lunch in the cafe before touring the house and one small exhibit. Nice enough. ‬

‪Could have skipped this one‬

‪We had just come from the Cincinnati Museum of Art, which is huge and where we spent 2 hours when we went to this one. Free parking garage is nice. Only exhibits are on part of the 2nd floor. Lots of pocket watches, Chinese art and vases, portraits and landscapes. Not really our thing and we were out within 1/1 hour after going all through it. One Faberge item. Photography is allowed. We did learn that the Taft that lives here was the older half brother of President Taft, who visited here often.‬

‪Lovely museum nearly along Cincy's waterfront with gorgeous decor and portraits‬

‪Came to Cincy from Chicago just to see the Jane Austen adaptation costume exhibit. We arrived early enough to get a primo parking space under the museum, and went in through the elevators in the parking garage. Saw the wonderful dining spot there, and since we came in a different way, didn't have to go through the crowded front entry. The guy at the gift shop checked us in and gave us our stickers, but was disappointed that the gift shop had no JA merchandise. Not even a T-shirt or mug! Missed opportunity! However, my husband enjoyed coffee at the little cafe's table while we waited for our entry time, and the security guard to the costume exhibit was both friendly and knowledgable. The main house and museum were just as extraordinary, and perhaps more so. I loved the draperies (!) and the furnishings, and the murals in the old front hall were astonishing. The descriptions for the costumes, however, were at exactly the wrong focal length for me, so I had to constantly switch between my reading glasses and my driving glasses, and there was no paper to write on in the little interactive nook. It was not expensive really, as parking is free, and we only bought a "Tiny Dog" book ($10) at the gift shop and $5 for the cup of coffee (it was less, but I tipped the waitress 50% since she kindly let us sit there without a reservation). I would come again, with a reservation to dine, since that seems pretty awesome, both inside and out. Would also budget more time, since many of the portraits and other items (like enamel watches) there were really worth lingering over. So glad they had the JA exhibit, but wanted more!‬

‪Gorgeous Historic Mansion‬

‪Beautiful museum holdings in a gorgeous old mansion; the drapes, the rugs, the furniture all enhance all the holdings. The current special exhibit of costumes from movies of various Jane Austen’s books was greatly enhanced by the mansion.‬

‪Came for Special Exhibition, Found a Gem‬

‪I visited the home/museum to see the Jane Austen film costumes, and found so much more.

The special exhibition - the costumes - were displayed well, with interesting and helpful signage. There were also special events (which I couldn't take advantage of) each day in conjunction with this exhibition.

The permanent exhibit of art and furniture was a pleasant surprise. There were so many artists I recognized, a large collection of Chinese porcelain pieces as well as a collection of religious art. Again, the signage was extensive and helpful.

I plan to return and would like to spend 1-1.5 hrs on the permanent exibits.

Hint: find a parking garage or lot nearby before you go; the on-site parking is very limited.‬

‪Well kept mansion, worth seeing‬

‪Stayed at Lytle Park Hotel so getting here was very easy, walk across the street. Got here at opening time at 11am. This museum is one of the best I have been to. I appreciated the art but more so the amazing upkeep of the mansion. It was a pleasure just to walk around and admire the home itself. The doors, paint and carpets were in great order. It’s a lot better to appreciate art when the setting is just right. I wanted to try the cafe but didn’t have the time to stay for it. Would return if I find myself again in Cincy.‬

‪This was my wife's pick on our trip to Cincinnati. She wanted to see some art work but didn't want to go to a very large art museum. The artwork is very all over the place. Some paintings, some pottery, and even a really unique ivory carving.

My wife thought that since this was in a historic home it would be setup more like a home. You would get to see the historic home in what it would have been when the artwork was in the building. This is not the case. It really was about three connected rooms with the collection inside. Granted the second wing of the museum was closed off so we don't know how much of the collection was not viewable.

Overall my wife was a little disappointed by the limited amount that she could see but appreciated the what we could see. Also one of the staff spent a lot of time with our son explaining things in the collection in a way that got him interested. This was above and beyond so that says something.‬
