Nice hike with nice views, but not super exciting and lots of mosquitoes. If you're limited for time, there are probably other hikes you'll enjoy more.

The Storm Point Trail, in the eastern part of Yellowstone National Park, is a popular 2.3 mi/3.7 km loop that is rated “easy” in most hiking guides. My wife and I hiked this trail during the latter part of September 2022.
The trailhead is located at the Indian Pond pullout along the East Entrance Road (US Highway 14), about 3 mi/5 km east of the Fishing Bridge Visitor Center. There is a vault toilet at one end of the small parking lot. The trailhead itself is along a path that originates near the toilet.
NOTE that this trail is in “bear country” and you should take proper precautions. In fact, the trail is occasionally closed in late spring and early summer due to bear activity. It’s a good idea to inquire at the Fishing Bridge Visitor Center about trail closures before hiking. We didn’t see any bears during our hike, but did see bear paw prints and some pretty fresh bear scat along the trail.
The trail has a reputation as an excellent opportunity to observe wildlife, and that was the case for us, as a bison was grazing on the trail just after the trailhead marker. We decided to divert off-trail temporarily to maintain the recommended 25-yard distance from the bison.
At the beginning, the trail crosses a grassy plain alongside Indian Pond and leads through a thin strip of lodgepole pine woodland to a sandy beach at the edge of Yellowstone Lake, where you get your first glimpse of Storm Point. The trail then re-enters the forest, which becomes quite dense, and follows close to the shore south towards the point. The trees fade away near the end, and you head toward the point as the trail becomes sandier and the terrain rises slightly to Storm Point, a rocky headland 30 ft/9 m above the water.
NOTE that (as its name implies) Storm Point itself is quite exposed and often suffers from wet and windy weather. However, we were there on calm, clear day and found it to be an ideal place to relax and take a break.
After leaving the point, the trail continues west, staying close to the water's edge just above the beaches. The trail then turns inland and again runs through pine woodland. The loop is completed by a short section across the tall grass meadow, back to the Indian Pond parking lot.
The trail is well-maintained and relatively flat. I’m in my late 60’s and was able to complete the hike with no problem. Moreover, it has lovely and varied scenery. We highly recommend making a hike along the Storm Point trail part of your visit to Yellowstone National Park.

Such a cute, easy trail. It makes me feel like I am in Scotland when at the point. Everytime that I have gone though, there are these little stinging bugs that are quite annoying.

After visiting the shoppes at Fishing Bridge in the Yellowstone, we took a hike on the Storm Point Trail. This located at the north end of Yellowstone Lake. It was about a two-mile hike that took us by a small pond that a bison was protecting. We walked through a wooded area and came out on the lake shoreline. As we walked through the woods, we could see large trees scarred by elk rubbing their antlers on the tree trunks. When we exited the woods, the bison had walked across the path and was holding the high ground. Side note: There was an outhouse in the parking area for the trail. Hike time, a couple of hours.

This is my wife’s favourite trail. It’s short and easy but just enough off the beaten path to allow one to experience quiet, uncrowded aspects of Yellowstone Park and Lake. Of course, I expect it’s more popular during peak season. But in early October 2020 which broke records for being the busiest October in park history, we saw only one other party. The atmosphere of the huge lake with fancifully eroded rock slabs adjoining a sandy/gravelly beach is delightful.
The trail makes a loop through the woods which I’ve hiked before but the trail junction is overgrown so I don’t expect it’s used much, word is there’s a bridge out.
We did a late afternoon out and back, taking time to savour rare atmosphere.
This is a place I expect to return to again snd again.

Fun and easy trail with scenic overlooks. Breathtaking views of the lake, jetties, possibility to observe marmots, and walk through “enchanted” forest make it definitely worthwhile. Don’t forget to apply bugs repellent, and keep your bear spray handy.

You don't have to do the whole trail to get great lake views. It's an easy trail that nearly anyone can do. It's well worth the time.

I first just wanted to clarify something for those reading reviews and trying to find this hike. A previous poster stated it is located in the Canyon region of the park--I believe this person has a different trail in mind. The Storm Point Hike is not in the canyon area; it is out past the Fishing Bridge visitor center toward the East entrance of the park.
Also, it is hard to find during the construction. We stopped in the FB visitor center to get directions. It is currently right IN the middle of one-way construction. Look off to your right for some gray vault toilets being constructed. Immediately following that is a small gravel parking lot by a meadow. This is the trailhead; there is NO Storm Point sign!
I wish this hike was rated higher on TA because it is wonderful! The ranger let us know a foot bridge was out, so instead of doing a loop, we hiked the other portion of the trail out to Storm Point and made it an out and back. You hike through meadow, beautiful forest, and right along Yellowstone Lake. It's peaceful and we didn't see many others out here. I would carry bear spray, personally, if hiking this trail. Also there are often bison near the trail. Give them 25+ yards and hike out in the grass if you have to.
You can hike out to a secluded little beach and there are gorgeous views all along this trail. If looking for a place for a meal before or after, Lake Hotel isn't that far. Be aware that there are no bathrooms at this trailhead currently until the new vault toilets are finished. There are restrooms at Fishing Bridge VC about 5 miles down the road.

This trail is fairly easy with great views of the lake. We did a ranger led hike with Hayden who has been a ranger for 47 years. He was very knowledgeable and great with the kids. I liked it so much I did it again with my husband when we passed through a few days later. The only hike I did twice.
