Nice hike requiring a decent level of fitness. Takes a while to get some views. But once your at the top nice view of Lake Yellowstone.

We stayed in a Lake Yellowstone cottage and the front desk recommended this trail. It was beautiful and diverse in its views and had many switchbacks and a climb to the very top that was well worth it! The view of Yellowstone Lake was breath-taking. We did not encounter many people on this trail and we hiked mid-morning in August.

The trailhead is pretty well marked, but the parking on either side of the road is pretty limited. We did this hike first think in the morning on a post Labor Day trip, so parking wasn't a problem. Our trail descriptions said that the easiest hike up is to take the right side of the loop at the lollipop and wrap around the back side of the mountain, so that is what we did. It looks like the quickest route up is to take the left side though, and it might be a little steeper based on us coming down that way, but not much. The view at the top is fantastic, but even in mid-September during Covid-19, we did have some company at the top. There is plenty of vantage points to view the lake though, Recommended that you bring bear spray on this hike.

Beautiful moderate three and a half mile loop with a grand view of Yellowstone Lake. The trailhead is by Lake Village. We did see bear scat on the trail. We carried bear and wore bear bells. It is amazing that you are hiking up an old lava flow.

This is a moderately difficult short hike - 3.5 mile lollipop - best taken earlier in the day for more solitude. There is a fabulous view of the lake from the summit although you get glimpses of it on the way up as well. The summit area is not that large - there are a couple of benches facing the lake - much nicer if you can enjoy the peace and quiet just by yourself for a while.
The trailhead is about 1 mile south of Fishing Bridge Junction on the west side of the loop road next to a pullout parking area. It's set back from the road a bit (with a very unobtrusive small wooden sign at the south end of the pullout pointing the way - you'll walk on a narrow dirt path that runs parallel to the road a bit before turning into the woods). If staying at Lake Village you could conceivably just walk through the Lake Yellowstone Hotel complex and the trailhead would be right across the road.

We arrived early in the morning and had the trail to ourselves. It took about 3 hours round trip and there were some areas that were steep and narrow. I would not recommend this climb for young children because of the narrow ledges. It was as advertised, " a moderate hike". We stopped at the top. There were some logs to sit on as were looked out at Yellowstone Lodge and Lake. I would recommend waterproof footwear. It was wet and very muddy in some spots. Gorgeous view!

We started this around 8.30am and although there a few other people on it it was relatively quiet.
A fairly consistent gradient and climb to the top and there is a small loop that can be done which is always more interesting than out and back.

This trail was slightly challenging, but not horrible. It's kind of shaped like a lollipop stick, where you have to choose which way to go around the loop. Someone recommended clockwise because it was steeper going up and was easier than walking down steepness. I'm not sure it made a huge difference, as both ways had a few switchbacks and steep areas. Never needed to use hands for balance to climb anything. The majority of the walk was just a forest view (bring bear spray), but when there was a glimpse of the area below, including at the top, the view was great. You can see a lot of Lake Yellowstone (the clearer the day, the more enjoyable the hike will be). Did the hike in about 90 minutes with a few brief stops to take photos.

This hike is on the way to the Bridge Bay campground when coming from Fishing Bridge visitor center. The trail is on the right side of the road. There are very few parking spots and you will see cars parked on the side of the road if it gets filled. Do this hike before noon or later in the evening and avoid it during noon as you get exposed to the sun a lot. It also gets steep and stays that way for pretty much 75% of the trail. It has a varying terrain but mostly is gravely.
Interestingly at the very end where the trail flattened out, there was a lot of snow. At sections I had to walk through the snow and at other areas had to detour around it. The view for the top is nice and there are a few logs to sit on but there is not much shaded area.
Plenty of water is a must. On my way back around 1:30 pm, everyone going up were asking me about the trail and if it was worth the trouble :). There was maintenance work being done as the trees were being trimmed etc after the spring snow but the trail was clear and easy to follow.
This is definitely a hike so proper foot wear is essential. Also if going in the evening, take a flashlight with you if you are planning on staying there to see the sunset.
