if you do not like the noise in the city, you can go to this place. I think it is so beautiful and interesting.

Of the three caves, I probably got most out of the first where the bats congregate. Vey slippery underfoot so need to be careful. I didn't bother with the second cave but enjoyed wandering around the local area / countryside and along the river.
As for Elephant Cabe, tubing not being my thing (I hate cold water), I didn't bother with the zip wire escapade which seems to have been more about getting wet than anything of real interest.

We had bought our car across the border from Thailand and had a free day, and on the advice of some expatriate Frenchmen we had met the day before, we set off to the outskirts of Vientiane to find the Elephant Village.
It was not that hard and within 40 minutes had navigated to it.
There were about five adult elephants in the elephant corral, with two calves and their mother in another enclosure.
The adult elephants were kitted up with houdas, but even though elephants have been domesticated for thousands of years, I do not like the idea that we should subject these majestic animals to our tourist whims by riding them.
Instead we bought heaps of bananas and sugar cane and amused ourselves for half an hour feeding them.
The calves were particularly voracious, poking their trunks through the railings and trying to snatch whole bunches of bananas from our hands. The adult elephants thumped the wooden staging floor with their trunks demanding their share.
Here's an interesting fact that I bet you did not know. Elephants have more than 40,000 muscles in their trunks. Humans have a grand total of 639 in their whole bodies. Remember that one for your next trivial pursuit contest.

Loved the tubing in the cave, it doesnt take long but its really geat fun. Theres a few ziplines too here, not sure how it works exactly, I booked it all through AK tours and we used the supposed longest ones, Which finished at a nice blue Lagoon too :)

This place is a hidden gem just outside Vang Vieng.
Besides the longest Zip line in Vang Vieng (it literally goes forever), they have the water cave, Elephant Cave, Hoi and Loup Cave, Spring Blue Lagoon (way better than the original Blue Lagoon), kayaking, climbing (by Adam's Climbing School) and they just added accommodation as part of a tour (where you can stay with a local family, in a tree house or camping).
I had such a great time and it was great to be in contact with nature and away from the craziness in the town of Vang Vieng
