It is rather surreal looking past the twisted remnants of the old bridge to the glacier beyond. There is some info here about the 1996 glacial flood that destroyed the bridge, but otherwise not much to do here. Worth a look if you are passing.

Si tratta dei resti del vecchio ponte esistente sulla ss1 prima dell'eruzione che ha rivoluzionato l'area portando la riva del mare ad arretrare di chilometri a causa della lava che ha riempito la baia.

These remnants of what was once the longest spanning bridge in Iceland are a reminder of how powerful Mother Nature is. The bridge was swept away by a combination of volcanic heat and glacial floods.

É um lugar com informações sobre uma inundanção que derrubou uma ponte. Há alguns destroços que mostram a força da água e alguns paineis informativos. A vista das montanhas ao redor é interessante também.
Não é de jeito nenhum um daqueles lugares onde você precisa parar, mas se você estiver precisando de uma pausa ao dirigir pela Ring Road, esse é um bom lugar.

Very impressive monument from a disaster that happened in 1996. Just goes to ahow how dangerous that mother nature can be.

Piccola tappa nel viaggio tra Vik e Hofn, giusto per sgranchirsi le gambe.
Si tratta di un rottame metallico, un vecchio ponte che è stato distrutto dalla forza del ghiacciaio Vatnajokull nel 1996.
I ghiacciai infatti si intravedono da lontano e ci si può immaginare la potenza del vulcano che ha portato allo scioglimento di una parte del ghiacciaio e ad forte alluvione (distruggendo il ponte).
Sono presenti alcuni pannelli informativi (in diverse lingue straniere) per poter comprendere meglio il fenomeno.
Unica pecca che sia stato rovinato con i graffiti.

Die Story dahinter ist gut, aber das Monument ist jetzt nichts Besonderes. Es liegt nicht weit vom Hotel und von der Abfahrt Richtung Gletscher und Wasserfall.

Cooler Zwischenstop auf der Reise entlang der Ringstraße. Es handelt sich um ein Bruchstück einer ehemalige Brücke, die durch eine Gletscherflut eingerissen wurde. Man kann drauf klettern, daher ein cooler Fotospot!

At first, I thought there was roadwork being done, until we pulled over to read about this twisted mess. Very interesting. On the way back, we saw some adults sliding down it.
