This 100 plus hectares learning institution has been built early in the 1900s. Too bad the anthropology museum does not allow picture taking; they have a massive collection of unique ceramics and celadon from pre hispanic period. Must see when you are in Dumaguete. Near the port and popula restos.

We spent about an hour looking at the displays and reading the many posters about the history of colonial rule and tries for freedom (that seemed disorganized). There were many displays of pottery. There were a few cases with rocks and gems. There was a small section about plants. It is nice air conditioning.

港からすぐに見えるコロニアルな建物。
ドゥマゲテを代表する大学で、守衛の人に言えば見学させてもらえる。
中には人類学博物館があるが、カフェテリアで現地の学生と触れ合うのも楽しい。

During my birthday vacation in Dumaguete City, I visited Silliman University Anthropology Museum to get to know more about Negros or Visayas in general.
The entrance fee is around 50php which I think is kind of pricey as the museum is small and nothing much to see though it has AC so you won't get sweaty while checking out some artifacts. I think 25php to 30php fee is fairer.
I'm expecting to know more about Negros' history or Dumaguete's background but they feature more of Philippine history which is comparable with National History in Manila. I prefer to re-visit National History for comprehensive information about the history of the Philippines.
I only stayed in the museum for around 30 minutes, it's more of like an exhibit hall than a museum in my opinion. Overall, it's an average experience so 3 stars would be enough.
Address: Silliman University, Hibbard Avenue, Dumaguete City
Opening hours:
8am to 5pm Monday to Saturday
12noon-1:30pm close during lunch time

Interesting discovery of the island and its people, cultural heritage and history. I learned something more of my ancestral beginnings...very educational, too.

I've been to a number of University Museums throughout the Philippines and this among the best - good size, updated facility, and well-lit. The Museum was established in 1970 by Dr. Hubert I. Reynolds, an American missionary member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and former Anthropology professor in Silliman University, to house the collection of the Cultural Research Center that started in 1964. The collection is composed of archaeological items - which date back as early as 500-200 B.C - from previous excavation all over Negros and parts of Mindanao and collected ethnological items from the various indigenous groups from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Adult admission was p100 each.

Located in the Rizal Blvd, just across the infamous tempura stalls. Small museum yet informative. hopefully they can preserve this historical place in longer years

it's not so often that we can visit a museum about our own local history. Very interisting for students or any other.

Aside from their cool aircondition against the hot summer, i really didn't find their artifacts interesting. Maybe because the museum lacks curator. The description printed in the artifact seemed general and doesn't convey deeper information
