‪The map shown is completely off, and there is no phone number to call, and most people even living around there don't know this place exists. We got lucky as a security guard at the university told our tricycle driver how to get there.
This place may be the most important ecological area on Negros Island, as it is home to some of the most endangered animals in the Philippines. There were no staff there when we visited, just a security guard. They have fruit bats, reticulated pythons, hornbills, warthogs, and spotted deer there. It seems like the place is barely hanging on. Hopefully this place can hang on because its places like this that are our only hope for protecting and restoring the natural environment of the Philippines.‬

‪A friend took me here as I had no idea that it even existed. Some very interesting things to see including a set of pretty big alligators. A peaceful, green place not too far away from downtown that is worth a visit.‬

‪It's a sanctuary for animals in the heart of Dumaguete.
Fauna and flora are rich; you can feel the greenness in every tree. Such a breath of fresh air.
Resident deer are simply playful and carefree. They thrive in number. ‬

‪Had a personal tour by the manager of the Zoo Lou Jean who talked to us about each of the animals and how in the 19years he has worked there has been caring as best possible for the animals with such a small budget given by the government and occasional donations.

He talked us through the exciting breeding of the endangered rare bleeding heart pidgeons and how some animals who reside there have been surrendered by their oringinal owners who could not keep them (including a 30lb python and Kite 🦅) also those who were confiscated.

Lou Jean is passionate and caring about these animals and although he can not offer them a completely luxury life, he is doing the best he can and ensuring their safety from poachers of those who would eat the animals, furthermore breeding worms and rodents to feed the animals to reduce expenses further.

Definitely worth a visit (only 10pesos entry and optional donation can be made). Also, be sure to to give Roderick (the spotted deer) a scratch on the head, he really enjoys the attention 😁‬

‪We visited the zoo and you could see straight away the zoo doesn't have enough funds to do the work they do. Many unique animals are kept here, most have been confiscated from people keeping them illegally or have been given to the zoo to look after.

We got talking to a keeper and he gave us a personal tour which gave us a real insight into the tough financial circumstances they have to operate within. Funding has been cut and the animals still need expensive food.

The keepers are inventive in giving the animals enough food by breeding rats and worms for food.

It costs only 10 pesos to get in but please leave a donation to help the keepers with their work.‬

‪Place at the end of an empty street without any signs. You can see some endangered species there but their surroundings are really sad, probably due to lack of funding (entrance is only 10PHP). When it's raining, it gets muddy, but there are walkways. We didn't have any guide but the 'zoo' is small and have some signs. It's really a pity that endangered animals have to be examined and researched in such poor conditions. We left with really mixed feelings.‬
