Holbox hat einen wunderschönen Strand.....und das ist aber auch schon alles. Die Bilder die man oft so sieht von bunten Häusern ist in der Realität nicht wirklich so.
Ich hatte eine Tagestour gebucht, € 149, inkl. Mittagessen im Hotel Paraiso del mar. Das Essen war toll in dem Hotel.
Die 20min. mit den Golf Caddy ähnlichen Gefährten ein Alptraum bei den Strassen. Absolut abzuraten bei Schwangeren und Menschen mit Gelenksproblemen.
Holbox ist der Tagesausflug um diesen Preis nicht wert. Verdreckt, vermüllt, Bauschutt....

The whale shark tour is horrible for the whale sharks! What we experienced was really sad. I am not going to focus on the fact that we spent almost 9 hours on a boat to swim for 5 minutes with the whale shark. I will focus on the fact that this poor animal could not even swim because of the hundreds of boats and even more tourists surrounding it... You could see it struggling to get away from everyone and, still, more boats were coming in front of it and more tourists were jumping into the water almost on top of the animal. It was definitely stressing and at the same time it was trying to feed. I am a marine biologist and I am 100% sure that in a few years, these animals will move further offshore to forage. They already moved far away from Holbox island due to disturbance. They use to be only a few minutes away from the coast based on the stories that the locals told me. But now, you need to sail at least 1.5 hours away to see one. They will soon move again. We need to protect them and stop this while there is still time. Yes, I know that I was there, and I know that I contributed to the hell that it experienced that (and possibly many more) day. And I feel terrible about it. If you read this review, I am begging you to not go there. Save the whale sharks!

Si tienen la oportunidad, no se la pierdan. Nadar con el tiburon ballena es alucinante. Ademas toda la excursion es muy linda ya que recorrés varios puntos muy lindos

Wonderful crew and communications up to the point of departure. Really appreciated the time and attention paid by all, and the cleanliness of the crew and facilities. Also, very accommodating of our requests.

A dream come true! The team is professional, safety is a priority always and we were lucky to see more whale sharks than usual plus dolphins, huge rays, and many beautiful birds.
Thank you for a safe and fun experience despite COVID-19 and for taking the necessary prevention measures.

The boat ride is very long 2 hours each way and it's bumpy (very bumpy) we took Dramamine but our bodies were so sore the next day we could barely walk. We went in August 17th and instead of the usual 200 boats it was about 20. I was so happy to see the whale sharks are protected and there is a police boat watching that the people follow rules. Please do not use regular spf since it hams the animal please use biodegradable spf and if possible put it on after you swim with the whale shark. We got to see this animal in a bottling position and that was amazing and we'll never forget it. I highly recommend this.

Definitely the best experience I had in Mexico. Thanks to Krissna and Christian I was able to swim with this amazing animal. They're knowledgeable about the whale sharks and Holbox. The sea bass ceviche they made was delicious. They also make stops when returning to do some snorkeling, to see flamingos and in the beautiful Cabo Catoche. I feel grateful for the experience. If I go again to Holbox I'll do it with them with no doubt.
Definitivamente la mejor experiencia q tuve en Mexico. Gracias a Krissna y Christian pude nadar con este asombroso animal. Tienen buen conocimiento sobre los tiburones ballena y Holbox. El ceviche d corvina q hicieron estaba delicioso. En el camino d vuelta hacen paradas para hacer snorkeling, ver flamencos y en Cabo Catoche. Estoy agradecido por la experiencia. Sin duda alguna si vuelvo a Holbox haría el tour con ellos de nuevo.

My trip with VIP Holbox Experience to go swim with the shark whales was absolutely wonderful. Willy, and his brother who captains the boat are Holbox natives and know everything about the island, its surroundings and amazing ecosystem. We were greated with a delicious breakfast on the beach at Club Mandarina before hopping on the boat.. ps: everybody wore masks, we were required to wear masks and were always greater with hand sanitizer and a big hidden smile:) We had to ride a long way to reach the spot where the shark whale were as they had moved away from the island. They however made everything possible to make the trip comfortable and check on guests. The swim with those colosal creatures was well worth it! What an experience! We then stopped at a spot to go snorkeling with tons of different fishes to follow and enjoy. There we were served delicious fresh ceviche that they prepared while we were swimming. We finally ended our tour in one of the most beautiful spot I had ever been: Santa Paula will remain on my mind forever! Such a beautiful lagoon, a wonder of nature, a magical place! Thank you VIP Holbox Experience!

This tour was so much fun. We had a great time. We saw 30 plus whale sharks. We also went snorkeling at a second location that was amazing too. And then we walked around a deserted area with tons of pelicans and had seriously the best ceviche I've ever had. Christian was our captain and he was a blast. Gustav was our guide and we enjoyed him so much as well. Overall - an absolutely amazing experience.

How long is the boat ride from Holbox to the whale sharks & is it a bumpy ride? What % of passengers did you see suffering motion sickness?

The exact location of whale sharks changes every year and as we haven't resumed operations yet, we do not know where they are. Some years it's only a 45-min ride, some years it takes us more than two hours. How bumpy the trip will be depends on the location of the whale sharks, and also on weather conditions. We suggest and offer dramamine before we depart. And we always are very clear about the outlook the days before, so you can decide. Our goal is that everybody enjoy the experience.

The truth is that chances are higher after June. Even higher during July and August. But, every year is different. You could check a couple of days in advance to be sure.

The season starts May 15. It is a date set by the government. However, chances of seeing the whale sharks during May are not as high as later in the season.
