1er contact (réservation et accueil) pas très sympathique.
Par contre, ensuite, cavaliers plus souriants et les chevaux sont très calmes. La balade pour la cascade était vraiment agréable avec petite cerise sur le gâteau avec la baignade dans la rivière.
Parents et enfants avons passé un très bel après-midi, sans regrets.

Superbe demi journée avec les enfants.
Les chevaux sont bien traités, l’équipe est vraiment top,
Les chevaux ne font qu’un tour par jour. C’est très rare ici !
Ils ont une vaste forêt a eux, environ 500 hectares !! Vraiment fantastique moment !
Les enfants ont adoré et mon mari et moi aussi !
Les chevaux sont sans mord et ils sont trop gentil !

Great experience through beautiful trails and the beach. Friendly staff, facilities are clean, and horses are well maintained, calm.

Today I went to the ranch for horseriding (didnt go eventually after seeing what I saw). The man who got the horses was very cruel, he hit the horse he was riding on mutiple times very hard. He also pulled the reins very hard. He got one horse and the horse was very thin and you could see all the bones really bad. After that he got Some other horses, one of them was very lame. All the horses were too skinny and they all had wounds on the head from the nose band. That is only possible by riding very bad en pulling the ropes really hard. The hooves of the horses were way too long. I got really sad (and angry) when I saw the pain of the horses and headed out before riding.
Im an experienced rider who owns two horses, so I know when horses look bad and are treated bad. Its sad some people wont (not their fault ofcourse but the ranches). If you love animals/horses, dont go to this ranch. Because they dont take good care of their horses and it seemed they actually abuse them as well (because of the hitting and all the wounds).

My family and I visit the Ranch last week, the staff members are very nice, they explain us in detail how to ride the horses, we ride the horses to the beach and we really enjoy it. When we came back they served us some watermelon and we fed the horses. It was a very nice experience.

This was our favorite thing we did on our 10 day trip to Costa Rica! We did the cowboy experience and pet 4 day old calves, milked cows, took the cattle to out to the pasture and then even got to canter/gallop on the beach. Such a cool experience. Everyone working there is amazing and really cares about the animals as well.

Despite tropical downpour during the whole ride, we had a BLAST! I love that they did not cancel our trip due to the rain. My daughter (8 years old) and I are experienced riders, and they gave us horses that matched our abilities - all I needed for my horse to get up and go was to drop the reins slightly! Her horse didn't go quite as much as she wanted it to, but I think it was a good match as she was able to be in charge.
The trail through the ranch/reserve was pretty, and it was fun to see the cattle as well. We crossed some streams which was exciting too. Once we made it to the beach, the guide just let me and her go......so my daughter and I got to gallop on the beach, with the wind in our hair and the feeling of freedom! The guide stayed back with the three other riders in the group who weren't experienced and just walked and trotted a bit here and there. We were pretty much managing ourselves, galloping for a bit, stopping and looking back, sometimes waiting for the group, other times just continuing on. We had the beach completely to ourselves because it was pouring rain! My daughter's horse wouldn't gallop on its own with her, but if I got my horse going, hers would then lope/trot fast behind me. It was a great experience to be on the beach, riding with her, on really good horses. I rode Baiyo and she rode Apache.
On the way back to the barn the trail had literally turned in to a stream - it was an adventurous day! I love that we felt secure with the guide, but also had the freedom to really enjoy the horses, the beach, and the reserve. It wasn't just a tour on a horse that didn't listen and just followed the horse in front of them; BUT for inexperienced riders there are those horses. They really tailor the horse and the experience to the rider.
Highly recommend!

I don't even know where to start with this review! First off, our group was late and management was kind enough to accommodate for us. This was so appreciated as it was the only day we had available for this tour. Wow, our expectations were exceeded! Hector was a true gentleman leading our group of three through the jungle. He was so knowledgeable about the property and the environment. The jungle experience was just gorgeous. I had actually lost my phone at the beginning of the tour and Hector was kind enough to call back to the Ranch and have others look for my phone while I enjoyed the tour. We ended up finding the phone, a couple at the beach had found it. Hector was kind enough to cut them coconuts as a proper thank you. I was so impressed with this kindness. Thank you Rancho la Merced management and Hector for the excellent experience! I hope to be back soon :) - Aurora

I had the best time on my tour up to the waterfall today! My horse, Perla, was so well behaved and the ride itself was beautiful! Getting to swim in the waterfall was awesome too. Highly recommend!!

I have stayed in HI hostels before, this year I am managing some serious health issues and just wanted to check that you do not have to be out during the day as it is in some hostels.(in case I need to rest while the others go hiking). Are you located in a pretty quiet spot to see strs at night?Also can a family room hold a couple and an adult daughter used to sleeping in a room together and what is price for family room. We are coming to the area around third week of July and would make reservations if you have openings. PS I have a Canada hostel card

Rancho La Merced is not a hostel as far as i know, they offer wonderful horsebackriding tours....
