Adjacent to the magnificent station, this simple yet poignant Celtic cross commemorates the losses suffered by Wemyss Bay and adjoining Skelmorlie during both world wars.
Sadly, 29 brave men did not return from WW1, and, another 15 from WW2.
The Memorial was unveiled in 1922, and stands to remind us today of the ultimate futility of wars.

This memorial stands in tribute to the men of Skelmorlie and Wemyss Bay, who died in fighting in the two world wars. There’s a curved memorial wall with seating. In the middle of the wall stands a pedestal supporting a cross of Celtic design. The names of the fallen are engraved on both the wall and the pedestal. A relief sculpture of a laurel is above the engraved of the latter. The memorial stands on a prominent location opposite the Wemyss Bay Station lest we forget.
