Every time I come back to Hanmer Springs , the thermal pools and facilities just keep getting better and better, I came to the pools in the 1970's, 80,s, 90's , 2000 and 2023. I am now 60 and had a blast riding the waterslides and the super bowl etc before soaking in the sulphur and rock pools The change rooms have great showers with shampoo and conditioner supplied - a hair drier is also available as well as a bathing suit spinner. It really is value for money ( hey and I got $20 bucks off because I am now officially a "senior"). I will always visit Hanmer Spring Thermal Pools when ever I return to NZ. All ages are catered for. Try it in winter, when it is snowing - totally awesome experience. Staff helpful and polite.

We visited the thermal pools twice during our stay and each time enjoyed ourselves. The area was rather busy on the first visit in the mid afternoon but the first-thing-in-the-morning visit was quieter. Even though we're grown ups, we loved the Lazy River ride and enjoyed dipping into all the thermal options.

We were staying overnight in the town, and we're recommended these hot pools to assuage our fatigue pains having driven down from the ferry port of Picton. We had set out from Tauranga, in the North Island, a couple days earlier on a self-drive tour of the South that required a half-day road journey on each of the 19 days we were on tour. Inevitably we experienced aches and pains, and these hot pools offered welcome relief.in the late afternoon, my wife and I found found plenty of room, in spite of the pools being very busy. Each pool varies in temperature, and each has cleverly designed water-jets which direct the hot, mineral waters over the neck, shoulders and upper body. The remedial effects last for some days, and we slept like kittens that night ... nice.

Recently visited this facility with overseas friends who had a great relaxing soak in the hot pools BUT were very disappointed with the non existent friendliness of the staff.
For an international tourist attraction which I assume is one of the main reasons people visit Hanmer, the attitude of staff was very disappointing.
Inadvertently we did not enter the facility until shortly before 6.30pm and once sitting in a pool we were told by a staff member that we had to get out in 15 minutes as they were closing at 7pm.
We were told the operating hours were clearly outlined on the main board before the entry door however this is not correct. There is in fact a hard to read smudged blackboard in the foyer area which states the operating hours but it was not in a position that people entering would likely see.
I would have thought that something at the payment counter would have clearly advised people of this matter however nothing! For people who do not speak English there is nothing to advise them at all.
I would also have expected that the staff member taking the money would advise people that they were closing in half an hour in our case. Maybe that is expecting too much but at $38 each it is a lot to pay for about a total of 20 minutes in a pool. The water park was also closed earlier but this wasn't mentioned at entry. Even after entry and visiting the locker area we learned the member at entry should have given us a token to operate the lockers. He clearly wasn't much interested in anything service orientated!
When the matter was raised with a 'manager' we were told that most of their staff were casuals and they couldn't be expected to let people know such things on entry. The manager also stated the hours were clearly advertised on the front board and it was our own fault for turning up late. She was wrong in the first statement however it was no doubt our own fault for not checking the hours ourselves. No excuse from me on that score.
In fairness the hours are clearly stated on their website but not everyone bothers or has the means to check such things.
In my opinion it is bad form all round and they did nothing whatsoever to make it even seem that they cared about their customers. Very disappointing!

Hi Allan. Thank you for your review. We aim to maintain a high standard of customer service and we're sorry that you didn't receive this during your visit. We want to assure you that this feedback is being taken on board and has been passed on to our operations manager who is taking steps to ensure all visitors are advised of closing times when arriving to the pools during the evening. We will also review our system regarding displaying hours before entering the complex - during Covid, as we were constantly adjusting, we removed references to opening times within the reception area, referring visitors to the website for the most up to date information. We will take this feedback on board and look at returning times to the information accessible on entry to the complex. Pricey but I had a lovely time here. There is a variety of pools available so it was fun to pool-hop - absolutely loved the pool with the water-pressure gadgets for an in-pool massage.
Finding my way from pool to pool was a bit tricky, given the winding paths, and the lockers are expensive but work really well with an electronic wristband - although plenty of people just carried their towels and bags from pool to pool.
I'd love to return during a colder month instead of the height of summer.

Mycket trevligt, rent och omväxlande. Otroligt fräscht och välstädat överallt, mycket personal och många olika val av pooler/vatten attraktioner. Stort utbud av mat, dryck och snacks.

We had pre booked our tickets but upgraded when we got there to get a return pass to re enter during the day, we also purchased a locker for the day and towels. We joined the express lane to enter as we had pre purchased but there were delays in this queue which was a bit annoying especially given there were 3 staff on but only 2 computers in use. I thought this line would be given priority over people that needed to buy a ticket.
Once we got in the locker system was quite good. We then started on the water slides, there needs to be a bit more signage on how it all works there but we figured it out. We then got in the pools which were very nice and warm, they are quite big pools so lots of people can fit in without feeling ontop of each other. There is a photographer going around which is quite nice, and no obligation to buy at the end. food inside is quite expensive Soyinka are better off getting the pass out to find lunch in town. There are a lot of life guards but they didn’t seem to actually do anything, they need to manage behaviour better and be seen to be happy, a smile doesn’t cost anything, most of them looked bored out of their mind. It would also be great if they cleaned the tree leaves/debris from the pools to make them clean at all times. With the single day return it is only valid for 1 re entry.

Although there is a choice of various thermal pools it doesn’t look in reality as luxurious as in the brochure! Could be more natural and vibrant - instead quite concrete like. Pools looked a little dirty in places. Would have been great to be advised when we entered to definitely remove our silver jewellery as we didn’t see the signs until too late …. But to be fair staff at exit very kindly cleaned all of our jewellery for us as would have been a bit gutted ! Didn’t use changing facilities .. lockers €2 for 2 hours and clever electronic wrist band system. All staff very helpful and friendly. Fun area for kids with slides etc . Been to better places than this but obviously lovey location.

We enjoyed our day at the thermal pools.
There is quite a large selection of thermal pools, a swimming pool and some water slides to choose from all set in nice surroundings.
We arrived at about 10.30 on a Saturday morning and it was nice and quiet but as the day went on it got understandingly busier so I’d recommend get there early.
However, I don’t think I’d come all the way out to Hamner Springs just to visit these pools.

Spent a long time here. This was the main attraction for us in Hanmer Springs and it did not disappoint. There are pools with different water temperatures, slides and pools for kids.
We rented some of our bathers from here as well. We took the single entry ticket as we were leaving Hanmer Springs the next day, if we had more time we would have gone back the next day as well.
Best part was the photographer who captured our family photos and they were reasonably priced for us to buy. Much better than having to take your own camera and having to save it from getting wet.
Slides are a lot of fun as well. Overall a great experience for all ages.

Yes they are, our waterslides and Family Activity Pool vary between 28 degrees and 33 degrees.

Do we need to book? We're planning a visit the day after Kaikoura whale watching, but we may have to be flexible if whale watching is rescheduled. It's for the end of July.

Hi there.
It really does depend on your skin condition. Our pools are all heated with Thermal water however some do have chlorine except for the Sulphur pools that are pure natural mineral water. The Sulphur pools also have Silica.
Silica is an essential element involved in rebuilding and maintaining these tissues. ....Google this as you will find it has rewarding elements. If you are worried please consult your doctor.

This time of year is stunning in Hanmer Springs the trees are turning and the colours are amazing.
