‪This is one of the oldest temples and moreover one of the very few dedicated to the Sun.
It is peaceful and well maintained temple. Nice architecture and nicely designed wooden arcs.‬

‪We visited Sri Kanakaditya Temple in the morning, when only one visitor was there, when a bus of students arrived. Sri Kanakaditya Temple is one of the few temples situated in Maharashtra that is dedicated to the Sun God. The main idol installed here is over 800 years old and is made out of the black stone. This Surya Mandir at Kasheli is home to deity Sri Dev Kanakaditya. The temple is rustic with a big sabha-mandap with local architecture - wood and paper dominate the decor. There is a legend about the standing idol of Lord Sun in this Mandir, where a sailor from Saurashtra, carrying the idol of Lord Aditya in his boat, couldn’t sail beyond the sea waters of Kasheli. He had to leave the idol in a cave in the adjacent hills, wherefrom a lady devotee got messages about the idol’s location in her dreams and the villagers found the idol there.‬

‪I went to Sri Kanakaditya Temple. Sri Kanakaditya Temple is one of the few temples situated in Maharashtra that is dedicated to the Sun God. The main idol installed here is over 800 years old and is made out of the black stone, while the structure is made out of mud and laterite stone. It is great place to go.‬

‪This amazing Surya Mandir at Kasheli is home to our family deity Sri Dev Kanakaditya. The temple is rustic with a big sabha-mandap with local architecture - wood and paper dominate the decor. There is a legend about the standing idol of Lord Sun in this Mandir. A sailor from Saurashtra was carrying the idol of Lord Aditya in his boat. He couldn’t sail beyond the sea waters of Kasheli and had to leave the idol in a cave in the adjacent hills. A lady devotee of Sun - Kanaka - got messages about the idol’s location in her dreams. The villagers actually found the idol there and got it back to the village. Kanaka constructed a temple in the village for this idol along with the villagers and the Mandir was founded back then. This dates back to some 8-9 centuries ago! Lush green during monsoon, bright and radiant during summers and tranquil in winters, the temple has its own charm in different seasons!

There’s a great “utsav” at the time of Rathasaptami with people visiting from various parts of Maharashtra. Ask the local folks about the village and they’ll happily tell you all the legends of the village and this serene temple!‬

‪some places are magical which gives you lots of positivity and this sun temple is one of them. according to locals God statue is from Dwarka and one sailer was carrying it in his boat. When the boat reached Kasheli shore, sailer was unable to move his boat hence he dropped the statue in the nearby cave. Lady called kanakadevibused to stay in Kasheli village who used to worship lord Sun. In her dream lord sun asked her to pick the statue from cave. Temple is in small village and roads are narrow but beautiful. Temple is clean and spacious. Though its bit inside from main road but worth visiting.‬

‪Sun or Surya was one of the highly revered gods during the Vedic era. In course of time, like that of other Vedic gods, Surya worship lost its prominence, but several temples enshrining the Sun God as the principal deity are still present. One of them is the 900 year old Kanakaditya sun temple in Kasheli, a very small village in Rajapur Taluka of Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra. It is said that King Shilahar of Panhalgad (a hill fort) had donated Kasheli village to Shri. Govind Bhat Bagawat in the service of Brahmins. Govind Bhat was the worshiper of Kanakaditya deity. Progeny of Govind Bhat are the current care takers of the temple. The temple employs local architectural style, with wood as the main component. Recently the wood work has been renovated, but still there are a few remnants of the original woodwork. The deity is made of black stone with gold eyes and accessories. The trip to the temple involves driving through narrow village roads , which makes the experience all the more enjoyable. This functional temple draws many devotees from Maharashtra and neighbouring states, especially during festivals like Rathasaptami.‬

‪ This is one of the very few places which combines the natural beauty with the unique sacred importance......
This temple is one of the very few temples of god son..... (surya dev) specially one of kind which was saved from the waves of 'murti bhanjak' the people who looted and destroyed the hindu holy places and statues of God within... ...
There is a small cave n high cliff seashore just 20 min walk from the temple.... any local villager can guide you if u ask...this is very silent and mind claming place.....
Just 1 thing to say pls avoid to go to shore in mid day....it's very hot at the shore with super heated rocks under your feet....n carry atleast 2 litre of water with u.....as it's some what dehidrating walk sometimes...
