The 90 minute guided tour (in German) was very good, the guide explained how, why and when this centre was built, and the various uses over the years. Then I followed the suggested walk (lots of steps) around the whole site myself to read all ~16 sign boards. There is also a great view over the nearby dam and hills.

Being an ex soldier who knew Vogelsang for military training purposes in the late 80's - 90's, I was keen to return in a nostalgic way as well as showing my wife the place I have talked about so much. I knew the place when it was run by the Belgians and reading the reviews, I think people need to accept the reasons why the place was built and the use of the place during the Nazi era but what happened after the war ended and its future use. I was saddened to read the Nazi inscriptions but hey ho, there are idiots amongst us that we can't manage. The only thing that I was disappointed with was that all the signs along the road had been taken down since the Belgians left. More sweat less blood. Iconic to any military training. I couldn't get down to the lake because the hill was too steep which was a shame because that was the range we fired our LMG's across the lake. A really interesting place to see.

Beeindruckendes geschichtliches Zeugnis, wie sich ein Regime eine Elite züchtete. Die Dokumentation ist sehenswert, für uns auch nicht mehr.

I visited in June 2023. Vogelsang is advertised as an "International Place", but this seems a misnomer as everything was only in German. There is an English language audio guide apparently but not everyone wants that much information.
With Belgium and the Netherlands only a few kilometres away, it is a shame that the exhibition did not include at least English and French.
I have been to other exhibitions and museums in Germany which do an excellent job with all texts in multiple languages, Vogelsang was a disappointment in this aspect.

I visited Vogelsang IP over the Easter bank holiday. The site and elements of how it has been presented are very impressive, and I can tell a lot of work and care has gone into the preservation and representation of the site.
However, while I was there, I saw two apparent Bundeswehr soldiers posing for photos next to the Torchbearer “Herrenmensch” statue, exactly adopting his posture, and I noticed a Swastika scrawled on the adjacent information sign. The experience was disturbing, and after discussing it with our guide and reading more about the site online, I realised it was no isolated incident. It is concerning to see how the site is being actively co-opted by the radical right for the purposes of radicalisation and even recruitment, it doesn't seem that the site management are fully getting to grips with this.
Despite all of the positives, we left with a bitter taste in our mouths. A real shame as the site has huge potential for good.

Hogere verwachting dan wat het daadwerkelijk is geworden. Er is maar beperkte informatie beschikbaar over het terrein. Er is nagenoeg geen link meer te vinden van het oorspronkelijke doel van het terrein. Veel informatie wordt maar beperkt aangeboden. Zou meer interactiever gemaakt kunnen worden over het gehele terrein, dan kan er meer info gedeeld worden ook gezien de geschiedenis van het terrein. Wel groot en wijds, veel lopen gegarandeerd. Mooie uitzichten en rustige plekken te vinden.

Site uit de 30-er jaren waar militaire elite van Derde Rijk werd geschoold in hun ‘leer’. Vanaf 1945 tot 2005 in gebruik als oefenplaats voor de NAVO. Interessant documentatiecentrum met indrukwekkende expositie. Ongelofelijk hoe het er na een kleine 100 jaar nog bij staat.

Due to the many wars fought throughout Europe, there are many solemn places. Germany seems to have more than it's share. Tucked away in the beauty of Nationalpark Eifel, is Ordensburg Vogelsang. This complex was built starting in 1933 and operated by the Nazis and used to train recruits in Hitler's murdering of Jews. The complex was used from 1939 to 1945, after its partial completion and turned over to Hitler in 1936. We were fortunate enough to have a guided tour lasting about 90 minutes which was very informative. The tour guide took us through the complex and explained the buildings and their history and use. One point he made was that approximately 2000 recruits were trained here. Nationalpark Eifel is spectacular and easily combined with this. It is an excellent opportunity for outdoor activities as there are many hiking trails.

Wir kommen immer wieder mit unseren Gästen hierhin, weil es ein vielseitiger Ausflugsort ist. Gestern stand die Geschichte im Mittelpunkt so dass wir uns nochmal die Dauerausstellung Herrenmensch angeschaut haben. Nach Besuch der Ausstelung geht man nochmal mit anderem Blick über das Gelände, daher empfehle ich als erstes die Ausstellung und dann deren Rundgang. Eine temporäre Ausstellung informiert über die Zwangsarbeiter im Kreis Euskirchen, das ist ebenso sehr interessant aber auch erschreckend, wieviele Entchen unter diesen Bedingungen hier gestorben sind. Ein Besuch lohnt sich. Vogelsang ist für mich eine sehr wichtige Gedenkstätte, auch wenn sie offiziell einen anderen Charakter als internationalen Platz erfüllen soll. Das tut sie auch, wenn man in die Ausstellung Wildnisträime geht, oder die Gastronomie mit dem tollen Ausblick geniest. Es gibt dort genug Möglichkeiten dort einen Tag zu verbringen. Wir schauen immer was unsere Gäste am meisten interessiert und gestalten den Vogelsangbesuch entsprechend. Der Ausflug kam immer gut an.
