‪Not to be underestimated, it's not an easy stroll along a coastal path. The views are stunning but it's hard work in places and hard to believe you would risk a horse on the rocky bits. Flipflops are a complete nono!
Starting from Cala n Bosc there is a pleasant walk towards the lighthouse then a reasonably flat walk north for a couple of miles. Alternatively walk along the southern coast towards Son Xoriguer where you can refuel , a little bit further on is a hut and hidden cave once frequented by smugglers of contraband .
Another section by Cala Galdana has steep inclines and a hundred steps down to a secluded beach.
Research and good footwear essential.‬

‪We love nothing more than a long hike followed by a relaxing day on your chosen “sometimes hard to get to” beach. Goes without saying , proper footwear, backpack and water . The perfect day 🫶‬

‪Punta Prima to Cala Sant Esteve is segment 19 of the Cami de Cavalls and was described as "Facil" - translation "easy" - on guides. Whilst the distance is relatively straightforward, both the climate and the terrain make this more "medium" than "easy" with some parts positively "difficult" in places. It was a warm (I thought it was hot) day, with strong sunshine. There are some stunning views and I was lucky enough to spot a tortoise (see photo) and a pair of Hoopoes feeding at ground level. Allow longer than the suggested times and take plenty of fluids. The route is well signed with markers every 200 yards or so. In rural areas these are wooden posts (see photo) whilst in urban parts a white rectangle, above a red rectangle, on street furniture denotes the correct route.

Tip - Take your time. The terrain can be challenging. You don't want an injury, especially given the inaccessibility of some stretches. Make sure you have water before you depart (there is a water fountain in Punta Prima) and stay hydrated.‬

‪Hired a full suspension carbon MTB from Bike Menorca (excellent btw). Cost me £185 for 5 days rental, and included a helmet, lock, pump, tool and a spare tube (I only travelled with hand luggage). Used the 5 day route from their website, as I’m fit, but I wanted to take in the scenery and stop for fuel when needed (already carrying a rucksack so wanted to fuel on the go).

The Camí is really well signposted, with lampposts making the trail through the resorts, and markers all along the trail (I missed a couple of turnings, but you soon realise). What I will say is that it’s not really practical for a MTB experience. I had to walk circa 30% of it, as it’s so rocky and the descents and inclines in and out of the coves along the coast are pretty extreme. On day 4, it took me 7hrs to do 30 miles, that’s a long day in the saddle. Carrying a 7kg rucksack and then a 17kg bike up the steep parts is tough, especially in the midday heat (circa 23 degrees).

I saw a few other MTB’s on the trail, but it was mostly walkers, which is definitely my recommendation. Cycling it was really tough, and I wouldn’t recommend any section to cycle, they are all difficult. The worse was Cala en Bosh to Cala Millor (7hr day). Best thing to do is to hike it, plan for 20 miles a day max, which will take you circa 7-8 days, and you might want a rest day in the middle to recharge. Also, fuel stops en route are few and far between, so take as much fluid and food as you can carry (my strategy wasn’t ideal at times).‬

‪The trail to Cala Turqueta was marked easy everywhere we looked. It was not easy. Every other part of the trial was as described, but I think this part might’ve been washed out. It was extremely rocky, quite steep at points, and took us more than twice as long as all the guide books said. We walk about 5 miles every day, I would say we are in OK but not fantastic shape. Bring more water than you think you need! ‬

‪ we have just returned from a hiking trip 6 days of walking and 3 of visits
the path is perfectly marked (visible wooden markers and very close together), maintained and secure... but do not believe that it is at all easy... the level of each stage varies greatly from the quiet and well "tracing" path with arduous passages, sometimes steep or slippery, and the ground sometimes very uneven and nasty for shoes and ankles not trained enough... we came across some mountain bikers who were suffering (forget the electric bikes which are too heavy and dangerous even on certain passages) on the other hand, do not plan too long stages (14 km for approximately 4.5 hours of walking) to enjoy the sublime beaches and peaceful swimming (naturists accepted without problem) sometimes several dream beaches on the same section.... be careful questions about supplies out of season... plan a picnic and plenty of water
it can be very hot (28° under cover at the beginning of October 2023!!) some comments talk about the humidity at night.... believe them it looks like it rained!!! Go ahead and enjoy the variety of landscapes!!!

‪The Cami de Cavalls is a great way to experience Menorca. Thanks to the differences in geology, the north coast is quite a contrast to the rest of the island. The Cami between Cala del Pilar and Binimel-la is certainly the most strenuous part, with some steep paths up and down headlands, especially difficult if you get caught in a torrential rainstorm like I was!
The path is well-marked, but I also used 'The Camí de Cavalls: GR 223 - The tour of Menorca in 10 days'.
Personally I think that 10 days is pushing it, unless you are using a company to drop off and pick up for each stage (such as Cami de Cavalls 360).
I completed the Cami de Cavalls by myself in 16 days. I stayed in Sant Tomas and hired a car for the duration. Generally I drove to Mao or Ciutadella, parked the car, then caught a bus. Obviously the north coast is a problem with lack of bus services! For the Cala del Pilar to Cala Morell section, I used a company called Nura Travel which provides a drop-off/pick-up service for some parts of the Cami. Elsewhere I used the car and did some ‘out and back walks’, but they do double the distance walked. Had I not done any repeated walks, I could have saved 3 days.
FYI, my total time was 79 hours and total mileage 145 miles.‬

‪We let ourselves be tempted to do the Cami di Cavalls on an electric mountain bike.
Very bad idea, a lot of bike carrying, a very uneven path very often.
In short, for hiking, it's idyllic, for mountain biking if you're very sporty, it's OK, for electric mountain biking, not suitable because it's too heavy.‬

‪This section is easy to access, there are 6.5km to go from Galdana to Playa Turqueta via the Macarella and Macarelleta coves. We did the return trip during the day, it is very well signposted and the level of the hike is easy‬

‪Very well signposted path that runs through many areas of Menorca that can only be accessed by walking. The asphalt sections, clearly the ugliest, are necessary to link sections, but it is worth it.‬
