Une visite en français sur le café très interessante faite par un guide très impliqué dans la culture raisonnée. Très content de cette visite clôturée par une dégustation de café

We were picked up from our hotel and transported not to far to this tour where Alison told us how they plant, harvest and process chocolate, sugar cane and coffee at this small plantation. Taken from area to area, she was informative and funny and we got to see how it is done. We tasted cocoa at it's purest and how it's made into chocolate which we tasted - yum! Sugar cane was cranked through a machine which provided a sweet drink and we picked ripe coffee beans just as the workers do (by hand) to produce this locally sold coffee. Afterwards you can get on the oxen pulled cart over to the building were you can have a premium cup of coffee and maybe even buy some to take home.
We also had 85 year old Don Juan show up to see how things were going and gave us ladies a hug and posed with us for a picture. A lovely old man.
We were very impressed with this tour and enjoyed it immensely.

Pro konzumenta kávy zajímavá exkurze. Názorně je předvedena po jednotlivých krocích produkce kávy od rostliny až po upražená zrna. Vřele doporučuji - samozřejmě i těm, kteří kávu nepijí.

Un tour sympa autour du café et du chocolat. Un bon souvenir ou le guide nous a apprit la fabrication du chocolat avec dégustation à chaque étapes

This tour had a good balance of information about coffee growing, coffee processing, and coffee tasting. It also gave an inside look at how a smaller scale coffee cooperative-member operates in this part of Costa Rica. The roasting demonstration is smaller scale, but you get to see the process, rather than simply walking through the industrial scale processing facilities you might see on some tours. The roaster, Mauricio, had a lot to explain, and was clearly knowledgeable. The "blind" taste testing had more things to taste than on the other tour I've done, and was a good learning experience. The website other's mentioned on trip advisor was down. But the phone number was still good. We called and arranged for a 1:30 tour. Someone picked us up at our hotel at 1:15, and drove us to the farm and roasting facility. The tour was $30/person (less for students) and lasted about 3 hrs---a good activity for a rainy afternoon in Monteverde.

We had a very informative tour. Not only explanations about coffee but about the whole culture. We even learned how to participate in "spooning". They also make the best pancakes to accompany your coffee after the tour!

Vi blev hentet på hostelet af en chauffør og Joyce, plantageejerens datter, der som halvt canadier taler flydende engelsk. Hun virkede som guide og oversatte for plantageejeren og senere også for baristaen, som vi besøgte efter plantagen.
Plantagen ligger i nabobyen Sankt Louis, og vi stoppede for en fantastisk udsigt derhen.
Plantagen er et lille smørhul og stemningen omkransede et perfekt besøg, hvor vi fik alt at vide om planterne fra spire til høst. Bønnerne fra bærhøst til bønne. Men også om de andre planter i plantagen, såsom frugter og sukkerrør, ligesom der er rigtig mange flotte blomster.
Vi hørte også om økologi og økonomi i driften og sluttede af med banakage og kaffe i huset.
Børnene prøvede maskiner og plukning og syntes også rigtig godt om oplevelsen.
Efter plantagen besøgte vi et risteri hvor en barista forklarede alt om ristning og tilberedning og især smags/aroma vurdering. Selv børnene deltog i kvalitetsvurderingen af forskellige kaffer.

Tour of a family-run coffee plantation with coffee tasting. Joyce, a family member was a very knowledgeable guide who explained many aspects of Costa Rica's coffee industry very well. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Many thanks to our guide Marco, not only because he's a fellow Georgetown Hoya but also because he & our host, Don Victor, genuinely care about the coffee and the people who produce it. The experience was a bit like visiting a relative's farm out in the country: walk around, see the process, say hello to the cows, then sit down over a cup of coffee & chat. Although I did the tour in Spanish, Marco helped me with translation when necessary.
Seriously, I had no idea that I was interested in coffee before the tour. Thanks guys.

We travelled 3 weeks in Costa Rica with our 2 boys (nearly 5 and 6 1/2 years old) and wanted to do a coffee tour while travelling.
But, we didn't want to do the commercial ones.
Reina from Cabanas Valle Campanas (our accomodation in Monteverde) recommended us to do this one. What a hit!!
This is a tour that goes to a local coffee farmer, with whom you have plenty of time to discuss, and you are able to get the feeling of the real Tico farmer's life.
You enjoy the growing process, the harvesting (you can help!), the processing (there too!) and a nice tasting at the end, without pressure.
Far far away from the commercial tours where you see the business but not the people. We came to Costa Rica partly to meet Ticos and have a strong feeling about their way of life. That coffee tour was in direct line with that desire.
