We were delighted that we came across this place and particularly enjoyed the welcome that we received and the homeliness of the house. It is certainly off the beaten track and but for large signs on the entrance to the drive, you wouldn't know it was there. It is however, well worth making the effort and the house itself is set at the bottom of a long drive and is surrounded by beautiful parkland. I like the way that the tree line is close together round the boundaries, giving complete privacy; whilst the rest of the trees in the grounds are nicely spaced out. Good to see the use of nature's lawn mowers (sheep.)
The tour of the house was both interesting and informative. There is a lot to be said to give you a potted history of the house and the people who have lived in it and indeed still live in it. Our guide Pam, made her commentary interesting and made sure that everyone felt included in what she was telling them. It was a treat to see such high quality furniture, made by the finest craftsmen of the time and even better to be allowed to sit on many of the chairs. Some of the pieces were astounding with their intricacy. They are a match for anything in the arts and crafts movement; where things were designed so technically and intrically, simply because they could be. Whilst the house might not be the grandest to look at, the quality of the pieces on show, are up there amongst the best and more importantly, it feels more like a home, rather than a museum.
We forgo the falconry display, in favour of a fine cup of tea and coffee, aided by a scone with jam and cream and a succulent piece of cake, from the tempting selection available. Long may they continue to prosper because whilst these places look grand, they do require a lot of upkeep and that is the difficult thing to maintain in progressively hard times.

Lovely afternoon looking around this amazing place. After visiting lots of National Trust properties, this was a delightful experience. The tour was around an hour and worth the extra money. The Guide gave us a very detailed tour, nobody rushed, knew answers to everything asked, and we were actually encouraged to sit on antique chairs, open cabinets, and pick up china. Falconry display included was humorous in places and again detailed. Gardens and woodland walk lovely. All well priced. Definitely recommend.

Spent the most amazing afternoon at Leighton Hall. Our introduction to the place was a warm welcome from a beautiful lady who turned out to be the owner of the property, Mrs Suzie Gillow- Reynolds, the epitome of style and elegance.
She treated us like old friends, has passion and love for her historic home.
This place will not disappoint. Another wonderful lady was Mary who guided our tour.
We were able to sit on the furniture, we told to make ourselves at home, Mary loved the bones of the house and was knowledgeable and informative.
You Must Go Here!!!
Thank you to them all for making my 8 year old granddaughter feel so special, there’s plenty for children to enjoy.
We had delicious clotted cream scones and flapjacks on the lawn.
We’re told to stay and enjoy the gardens after the magnificent birds of prey show.
The encounter is close up and personal with great photo opportunities.

Our guide Pamela was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Pamela gave a great introduction to the house, and she built upon it as we toured the various rooms. We learnt about Gillow furniture and how Richard Gillow remodelled the Hall. We were able to sit on chairs made by Gillow furniture and examine the telescopic extension table invented by Mr Gillow. This tour was outstanding and we highly recommend it.

Spent a couple of hours here on a rainy day. Guild worked here a long time so had many details about the building and the family who own it. Couldn't go round the gardens as weather to bad, but they looked lovely.

Had a wonderful visit to Leighton Hall, Carnforth yesterday. All the staff are friendly and welcoming, the hall is beautiful and I also enjoyed the Birds of Prey demonstration. Well worth a visit.

We have just finished a day at Leighton Hall, and God what a day it was. In the last seven years we have probably been to 100 – 150 castles and homes open to the public. We have never had such a personal, honest and enjoyable experience. We had the tour guide Mary, who was very knowledge and a lot of fun. She took us round the house and explained how through the ages the fortunes and setbacks of the owners changed the structure and belongings of the occupancy. Mary is a great tour guide and by half way through, the tour. All visitors were talking and discussing the belongings and building. Mary had us sitting at the dinner table the Gillows would have sat at and even opening furniture within the house, something which is normally unheard-of within houses.
The art may not compare to the Rothschild’s or the Percy’s, but the knowledgeable tour guides and interactive experience was second to none. The intimate sized tours give a personal touch and a feeling of traveling through the ages with the Gillow family.
The walled garden and orchard give a realist, impressive view of how the gardeners would have provided for the Gillow family during the tenure, due to the limestone geography. The gardens are well manured for the size of the home.
I could write another ten paragraphs about the house, staff and experience but would rather say this is a hidden gem and something not to be missed. We live in Lancaster and had been planning to come here for ten years. Needles to say we will be back within the next two months.

Visited on a day of mixed weather in July. House has a warm lived in feeling and the staff were very welcoming. The main part of the house is Georgian ,with the rather strange addition of a Victorian frontage. A very enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide give an interesting tour of about one hour. Lots of family memorabilia to view. No photography inside was permitted. Good tea room in the old kitchens in the basement. Added bonus of birds of prey demonstration later on in the afternoon. Well worth a visit to view a well kept country house .

Hi, we have 80 acres of parkland in front of the hall, where dogs are welcome on lead up the public footpath towards Summer House Hill, which has the most amazing views of Silverdale & Morecambe Bay. Unfortunately we do not allow dogs in the house and formal gardens. The car park has shaded areas and a tap if water is needed for your dog.
Many thanks

Is the hall wheelchair accessible please
Thank you
كُتب بتاريخ 22 مايو 2018
Hello there,
Please forgive the lateness of this reply.
We provide a ramp for anyone who is wheelchair bound and wishes to take part in a tour of the house.
The upstairs is not accessible by wheelchairs, unfortunately but as most of the tour is contained in the ground floor part of the house, only a short part of the tour is actually missed.
Our tea rooms and gift shop can be accessed via the front lawn so, stairs are completely avoidable.
With the exception of the woodland walk, there is a wheelchair friendly path all the way around the gardens.
I hope this answers your query satisfactorily but please do not hesitate to get in touch if we can be of any more help.
Kind regards.

Is it possible to use your cafe without visiting the Hall? I am organising a walk in the area in August and a coffee stop at Leighton Hall would be very nice
