Two knowledgeable & enthusiastic volunteers spent over an hour explaining the exhibits and sharing their own experiences. Fab, even for non-techies.

A very interesting well laid out museum. A fascinating collection of items and I was very interested to find out more especially from the volunteers who are always so knowledgable and enthusiastic. Sadly I cut the visit short due to the guide. I wasn’t there to listen to his personal diatribe on everything from politics to royalty. Many of his comments were insulting as he had no idea of my views. I was gaining very little and had little or no opportunity to ask questions or even concentrate on the exhibits. It seems a fascinating place to visit but sadly I did not enjoy it.

We are very sorry that you had a bad experience with one of our guides. The Museum is of course meant to be a source of information about communications, and you should not have been subjected to any views or opinions that are not communication related. Our volunteers will be reminded about their responsibilities and duties as guides and informed that insulting behaviour will not be tolerated.
We are glad that you seemed to enjoy your visit initially, and hope you will return.

We visited in July 2018 with a party of one adult and two teenagers aged 17&14. We were greeted at the entrance and after a brief introduction to the exhibits, we were directed to the main exhibition area.
A very friendly member of staff called Dorothy acted as our personal guide to the museum, describing the WW1 reproduction trench, and associated information. We were led through the various exhibits, and our questions were answered. Dorothy took particular care to include my teenagers, and asked them to try on air cadet uniforms for a photo opportunity.
This is an great small museum, as there are "hands on" exhibits as well as those behind glass. There are handouts for younger children and they can try sending morse code as well as using field telephones, semaphore signalling, and voice pipes.
Dorothy explained that the museum is not static, and they try to change the displays each year.
There is an operational amateur radio station, but unfortunately the operator wasn't present on our visit.
Admission is free, and as it is staffed by volunteers the museum has limited opening hours. Parking is available on street, and in a free public car park within 100 yards. Toilets and refreshments are available in the building.
We would strongly recommend a visit.

I have lived here for 6 years and never knew about this place. Awesome gems inside. The kids loved the green screen tV that let them present the weather. I was fascinated by all the WWII kit. A Must!

A veritible treasure trove of world war 1&2 memorabilia. Really interesting to see the inside of a first world war trench and find out how sound was first transmitted using lights in a 2nd world war experiment at Aberdour. Great little museum for a small town and free admission

I was out to gather information on my Great Grandfather and the people here quickly put me on a visitors card/access to internet sites for searching, etc.

If your in the area, it's worth a visit, considering it's free, unless you want to give a donation, fairly interesting if your into means of communication,it also has a cafe, some old bakolite phones, and radiograms worth a visit.

We have tried to visit this museum on different occasions before but sadly every time it was closed. We did some research about their opening hours and made a special trip here today to visit. The museum opening hours are 10am until 4pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays only. Even at this they do recommend phoning first just to make sure that someone will be there.
Upon entering, we were met by a very knowledgeable, interesting, enthusiastic and helpful volunteer. She took great time to explain in detail to us about many of the exhibits.
I, myself, worked in the electrical trade back in the 1980's, so found all of this very interesting indeed.
There is information and exhibits from World War I, and various different forms of communications equipment which dates from way back. They are currently celebrating 50 years of colour television. I was most interested to see the world's first video recorder dating from 1964, 405 lines, using reel to reel technology, and was black and white! It cost a staggering £1,200 way back then!
The lady volunteer could clearly see that I was very interested as she said that I had "that glint in my eye!"
We finished off our visit by having a cuppa in their café upstairs.
Admission is free but there is a donations box. We were happy to donate.
If I'm honest it is probably not the sort of place that would suit or be of interest to everyone, but those with an interest in World War I, radio, gramophones, television and indeed communications equipment and such like will probably find this place to be an invaluable source.
Definitely our highlight of the day.
Some intending visitors may be interested to know that there is a stair lift which takes you to the 1st level - the main exhibits area, but there is not a stair lift to the upper floor (café).

It was free entry and I found the exhibition very interesting. It pieces from the World War One as well as communication items from the 60's. The members were very interesting and provided an explanation on the exhibit items.
