Good car park, clear, well made path uphill through forest. Blaeberry bushes everywhere, trees and birdsong. Saw a crossbill - first time spot for us. Hot day, but walk is beautifully shady. Lovely lochan half way up. The monument is big and strange. Marvellous views of Cromarty firth and mountains.

Nice walk, not too strenuous and you will be rewarded with a great view of the harbor and hills surrounding the stone structure. Nice meadow on top, take food and have a nice picnic at the top.

There is a car park. The walk is longer than advertised on the sign at the beginning of the trail though. It’s close to a 7.5k return walk. It starts off gradual but most of it is steep uphill. Lovely views from the top and the monument is something different to see.
Would have been nice to have a sign/information board saying something about it.

It took us 65minutes to walk to the top from the car park. VERY steep parts of this walk, uneven ground, mostly uphill all the way - with a few flat parts but not many.
As you approach the top the views to the left are out of this world, especially on a clear day.
Once at the top it is a fantastic monument and the views are stunning. Worth the climb but don’t underestimate this walk. Take water.
Took about 40 minutes to walk back down which again isn’t always easy, as very steep parts to then walk back down.

Me and my wife took opportunity to visit Monument while touring Scotland. Bit of a climb up, but not too bad if you're relatively fit. Unfortunately the day we went up the clouds were really low and it was raining so consequently didn't get to see stunning views. Still enjoyed walk up and back down though.

Took my little boy (6yo) up with me. Did need some harrabo to encourage him up. He did enjoy the top and the view, and we did have a great day up. Well worth the walk in the sun, with a lunch stop at the top.

Having read an earlier review from JOJO1986, I couldn't sum it up better.
Firstly, pinpoint the carpark on Google Maps prior to heading out as you may not have signal out here for internet but your GPS will work. If you've headed from Inverness (south to north), be careful not to pass the single track road to the carpark (it is signposted on your right, not the left you are looking out for).
Reasonable amount of spaces at the carpark but no toilet facilities. The earlier you get here, the more chance you will have the trail to yourself (we met a lot more people as we came back down).
Take water and snacks and apply Smidge (or similar) for the midges. Wear appropriate footwear... not flip flops. It was drizzling and humid when we visited at the end of July and were lucky enough not to encounter too many midges as it was quite windy too, but when the wind drops or you are in the heavily wooded area, they are there ready to strike.
The walk from the carpark to the summit is on the whole, mainly uphill through woodland with the odd part that plateaus. Keep going straight on as you encounter paths that cross and you shouldn't go wrong. As you get near the top, look left to some amazing views of the Cromarty Firth.
I'd read the walk took about 45 minutes from carpark to top... it took us about 1hr 20 minutes I think. We aren't hikers or gym bunnies so perhaps if you are, you will do it in 45 minutes but nearing 50 yet wearing the correct footwear, it really was a strenuous walk. Glad we persevered though as the views at the very top are fantastic.

We were a group of 6, 3adults, 2children aged 8 and 1 child aged 3. Weather when we set out was sunny and warm. The path up to the monument is good and clear. As one would expect much of it is fairly steep, especially if you are not a regular hill walker (Due to the heat, the 3yr old was carried at times but did walk up most of it). Lovely views as you near the top and these continued with views of surrounding hills at the top. Unfortunately, the weather broke with mist closing in and we lost the views but still managed to enjoy a Scottish summer picnic 😄. We returned the same way. This time the 3yr old walked all the way down. We had wondered if this walk was suitable for a young child. If you have plenty time and children are used to walking - and a pair of strong arms, just in case🤔 - this walk is a good family outing.

From the City centre Alness there is any transport until the Car Park for the path to Fyrish monument?

Is it possible to walk there carrying a 6 month baby in a carrier?
كُتب بتاريخ 17 يوليو 2018
Yes it is possible - the path is pretty clear and even - although it is a long climb so it depends on your fitness levels. Assume you mean a "back pack" style in which case I do not recall any low branches or other hazards.

is it a convenient & easy way to go to the Fyrish Monument from the Carpark ? How long did it take?
كُتب بتاريخ 10 يوليو 2018
To get to the top, took us just over an hour in a snow storm in February and under an hour to return to the car park

If you have a dodgy knee is there an alternative route?
كُتب بتاريخ 26 مارس 2017
Hi James S,
You would probably be fine but there are some steeper sections. It's a lovely walk in itself so you could always turn back. Instead there are lots of other beautiful walks around such as the 'Monadh Mor' on the main road halfway between Tore roundabout and the Fyrish. Or nearby the Fyrish along the river.

How to I get there, I tried to find the car park on Saturday but ended up at the end of a narrow single track road. Took the Boath turn off but no signs after that??

If you have a sat nav, punch in the following co-ords to take you to Jubilee Car Park:

Enjoy the walk. Views are fantastic :)
