Beautiful. Serene. Well worth the walk. The one bridge over the second gorge was out though. Taxied from the cruise port. All the way from Philadelphia!

Have lived in the area for over 30 years but had never been here, only found out about it from a friend!
We parked in the car park on the main street opposite the Cornerstone cafe in Evanton, then walked up the street between the cafe and the Coop. You can head straight on and turn right when you reach the old Chapel, but we turned to the right earlier (along Campden Street). The gorge and woods are signposted.
Once you get to the entrance of the woods there's a map which shows various walking routes around the woods, and towards the gorge. There's a play area and some picnic benches too.
Was about 1km walk to the gorge, really wonderful walking through the woods, so peaceful. Take walking shoes/wellies as some of the paths are uneven and muddy.
The only let down was that the second bridge over the gorge was shut as it is damaged, but this didn't ruin our visit.

An absolutely stunning spectacle though very difficult to do it justice in photographs. The gorge is so deep and so narrow it is breathtaking. Lovely walk through the woods to get there and a good choice of routes back to make a circuit with convenient parking in Evanton near cafe and shops. Do not miss this!

This is an amazing place just outside Evanton. Not much in the way of parking. Reasonable walking if you are reasonably fit. A wonderful natural feature used in the Harry Potter films. A well spent hour.

Unexpectedly while driving our guide asked if we wanted to take a walk and see a gorge that had been filmed for a Harry Potter movie - we thought, "why not!" Thus, we found ourselves at Black Rock Gorge. From where we parked it was a nice little walk/hike to the gorge. The surrounding area looks like it is out of a fairy tale. The gorge itself is really cool - photos do not do it justice. This was a pleasant surprise and just the perfect time to stretch our legs and get some fresh air. Now we have to watch the Harry Potter movie!!!

Met a friend here for a walk with our dogs as it was a great halfway point between our two homes. We had printed a map from the internet but it was a bit vague. We parked in the car park in the town centre and and walked to the entrance. Its a lovey woodland walk with good quality and well kept paths . As our ma was very vague could maybe do with some more signage to make sure you are on the right tracks, as there are lots of smaller tracks coming off the main walk,Took us about 1.5 hours to do the loop route on a lovely cold crisp winters day. Nice facilities at each end of the walk where people were enjoying picnics and BBQ's and a great play area . At the chapel end of the walk there is a great map, maybe would be good to have at each entrance and maybe printed copies available or more accessible online. Great walk and would recommend for a peaceful walk

Visited here as part of the North Coast 500 between Inverness and Thurso. The actual route was quite difficult to find, as the google search does not take you to the actual route. However, once found, it is a slightly steepish trail to a green gorge. Looking down you will see a massive precipice, with a long drop to the bottom. It is quite spectacular, but makes your legs wobble a bit!

Firstly there are numerous woodland walks that can be done from here which all look fantastic. The black rock gorge one is well signposted, and is a beautiful walk. The gorge is magical and fairylike.
There is also a lovely natural playpark and picnic area at the start point for the walks.

Sympathique balade avec le petit gars dans le porte-bébé ! Chemin facile et bien indiqué ! Boucle d'environ une heure depuis le parking au milieu du village

Hi I'm thinking about taking kids and dog on this walk. Is it safe for both? Thanks
كُتب بتاريخ 17 فبراير 2015
Hi Louise,
Yes, it should be safe enough provided you take reasonable care. If you do the walk from the West through the community woods there is quite a steep descent to the two footbridges which might need care with very young children. On the other side there is a path which goes close to the river and descends to the bottom end of the gorge. I would not advise that. There is a higher level path which comes out onto a minor road which takes you back down to Evanton. I'm not a dog person but be warned that the gorge is unfenced and is narrow and very deep. Probably best to ensure the dog is close to you.

We went with children but no dog but it is fine. The ground can be very muddy in places so you need suitable footware. I suggest you put the dog on the lead when you get to the bridge going over the gorge but otherwise the walks through the woods on the far side are very safe and popular with dog walkers.
